Topic 34 of 79 [porch]: Who did you tell about the Spring lateley?
Response 31 of 61: Paul Terry Walhus (terry) * Thu, Sep 3, 1998 (03:41) * 38 lines
Mike, since you're from Manchester, will you invite Meg Pickard?
Here's a quote from her:
"greetings and salutations to all who pass this way....I am:
a) fledgling anthropologist with extensive fieldwork
experience in the bolivian andes, researching issues of
ritual embodiement and identity.
b) really indecisive, it seems, as I am now involved in
postgrad research on (surprise, surprise) Internet
communities - both ON and OFFlinec)
c) eager to follow up any recommendations or contacts
anybody might like to pass this way...:)
d) The resident computer boffin (their word, not mine) in a
wholefood-art-community-cyber-cafe near Manchester, UK
- this may explain my interest in not just communities
ON the interent, but also those which are cultural
products or even constructions of the Internet - and
intereseting revere of roles, I think.
e) quite willing to talk at length about my interests,
research, life, etc etc but...f)
airly unwilling to go into all that without a proper introduction.
So please consider this my extremely convuluted (and
probably mis-spelled) way of saying hello. Hello."

Do I sense that Art is close to surfacing?
An email I just got:
> It would be very cool if you started a topic on race, class and the
internet
> in the internet conference! I'm sure it would spark an interesting
> discussion.
Yes, I'll do that, but I need to get used to the system first. I'm still
not comfortable with the navigation or commands, because even though it's
similar to the WELL, it's just different enough to get on my nerves. %-)

However, I will e-mail said person as soon as I get a chance. Or, maybe, one of the ladies would like to do it? You know how funny women can be getting unsolicited e-mail from men ;)))

sad but true Mike...
I am practically unshockable in this realm however when I receive some 'unsolicited email' from someone I do not know and it has even the faintest of lude, crude or suggestive twinges...
I truly get really pissed off.

I used to love reading (almost anything) and watching films, but now I can
only enjoy hearing others talk about them; no time.

I was going to say that, "Evidently invitations work, Terry. Thanks
for the invite." I'm a middle aged guy that's just been wandering
around most of my life and I just wandered in here after Terry sent
me email.
Well Perhaps that's not exactly true. I've done customer support for
some local ISPs and I'd like to come to terms with that concept of
local. I am keenly interested in what has value to people.
Unfortunately, time is always a problem for me, just like everyone
else in this pre/inter millenium haze. (I could also use a good
spell checker)

More from Chad:
Terry, Thanks _again_ for the invitation. I've forwarded your note to my
_home_ email account that JeffK set up for me as chad@sanmarcosTX.com. In
the mean time I stopped in and the signed up at Spring.Net.
If you would, please use the sanmarcosTX.com address for me in the future.
I'll work at getting by spring.net and I'll mention the site to a few
friends.
Rereading that it sounds pretty non-commital but I'm at the end of a very
long day and the next one starts in just a few hours. I don't want to
close this note by letting fatague mask my appreciation of the amount of
work you have obviously done on that site.
