Topic 59 of 79: Please enter your tech specs

Thu, Apr 15, 1999 (20:21) | Mike Griggs (mikeg)
Please post as many of the following technical specs of your computer/browser as you can:

1. Browser used (e.g., Netscape Navigator 4.08, Internet Explorer 5)
2. Does your browser support Java?
3. Does your browser support JavaScript?
4. What screen resolution does your computer run in?

This will help guide those people developing new stuff for the Spring as to the level of technology available.

Thanks for your time!

My Specs:

According to a local newspaper article (that got more than that bit wrong), I'm redheaded and wear small spectacles. Bloke wouldn't inform his readers on how tall I am (or not), and the weight-to-brains-ratio (aka "payload"-ratio). So, sorry can't tell you 'bout them specs.

hmm...interesting stuff :) I only asked because I was thinking about the Babes conf the other day and wondered what it looked like in 640*480*256...and the answer was: awful :) So I was rather hoping that everyone was running in more than 256 colours to save my blushes...I guess not :)

Anyway, it seems that some ppl have java/javascript and others don't. So, do you think it would be ok to put non-critical (like nice, but not important) stuff in Java/Javascript in?

Oh, and Autumn, if you did want to upgrade your netscape, just go to www.netscape.com ....they've made it really easy to do these days so you wouldn't have any trouble

On that glaring of these tracking devices: Wolf, might be your fur or the batteries.

Older revisions used these really tiny batteries, like in quartz watches, that were supposed to last a lifetime under normal circumstances. Either you outlived the batt's lifespan, or your circumstances aren't normal.

If it's one of the newer makes, they're powered by induction (platinum!) from the electrical field of the wearer's bodies's neuronal activity. With that kuschliges fur you have, might be either the distance between the induction spools (windings?) and the nerves is too great or there's not skin-contact for grounding (!).

In my case, it would be obvious: No fur, ergo: Probable cause = Lack of neuronal activities.

Are you a techie? Chances are if you're a CNET Dispatch subscriber,
you either are one or you greatly appreciate what they do. And for
good reason. Techies are changing the way we work, play, shop,
govern, parent, teach and explore. Never before in history has
one industry contributed so much to the way we live our lives, or
to the health of this country's economy. Employment in core IT
occupations has grown six times faster than the overall U.S.
job growth rate. However, the number of tech jobs continues
to way outstrip the number of techies to fill them. It would not
be overstating the problem to say that the shortfall we are witnessing
will pose a serious threat to our national well-being over time.
Here at CNET, we believe we can help by making technology training a
priority in our schools, and by making today's techies the role models
for the next generation.

So CNET, in alliance with techies.com and other leading, like-minded
companies including Compaq, FedEx and Information Week, established
National Techies Day. This national event, which will take place on
October 5, 1999, is intended not only to recognize the important
contributions tech professionals make to all of our lives, but to bring
attention to the pressing need for educational programs that interest
young people in seeking tech jobs and offer them the specialized
training they need to prepare for tech careers.

National Techies Day's success is based in large part on an active
volunteer effort by the tech community, as well as good old-fashioned
word of mouth. Beginning today, at the National Techies Day Web site,
http://www.techiesday.org/ you can download a National Techies Day
Activity Kit packed with ideas and information about how to involve
your company and your community in this event. You can also register
to nominate your best techies for the Techie Team of the Year
Competition which will be announced on National Techies Day.

From organizing a Dorito-fest for your team, to fielding a techie task
force in your local schools, I hope you will consider how you can get
on board with Techies Day. With your help, we hope that National Techies
Day will become the country's largest pat on the back for techies and in
turn inspire young people to become the builders of our future.

Thank you in advance for helping to make National Techies Day a
success.
