PIRCH -- PolarGeek's IRC Hack (PIRCH) may be quite a
mouthful, but the client itself is nothing short of amazing. PIRCH
offers one of the most attractive, easy to use interfaces for an
Internet Relay Chat client on the 'net today. It combines ease of use
with powerful features, intuitive design, and more than sufficient
context-sensitive online help documentation. PIRCH has the
capability for private text-based chatting, as well as the ability to
send and receive text, video, sound effects, MIDI, and synthesized
speech files. PIRCH offers an integrated media player for playing
files received via IRC. Additional PIRCH features include the
ability to allow concurrent multiple server connections; user
definable aliases, variables, and events handling; support for CTCP
(Client to Client Protocols) and DCC (Direct Client to Client);
flood handling; multimedia plug-in capabilities (including Real
Audio); a personal biography feature; an integrated finger client and
a DNS lookup app; direct integration with Netscape Navigator or
the web browser of your choice; and a whole lot more. In addition
to offering context-sensitive help, PIRCH also includes a beginner's
guide to IRC and extensive documentation covering the many
details and features of the client.
Although PIRCH does offer a great selection of features and is an
IRC client that will especially appeal to novice IRC users, it does
lack several features that will likely keep advanced users from
picking PIRCH over its current competition. PIRCH is relatively
slow in listing channels for servers and also lacks the capability to
filter the number of channels based on the number of users or the
ability to sort based on the name (or partial name) of a channel. The
integrated support for the web could also be handled better by
offering users direct double click access to a web, FTP, or related
site. ViRC, PIRCH's closest competition, is already one step ahead
of PIRCH with features like real-time audio chatting capabilities, an
integrated IRC programming/scripting language, bot and grouplist
support, and channel filtering abilities. PIRCH is also available in
both 16-bit (Windows 3.x) and 32-bit (Windows 95/NT) versions..
Overall, the intuitive and graphically appealing interface of PIRCH
is likely to attract many
New users, and with continual development, PIRCH may well
become the app of choice for novice and expert IRC users alike.
Pros: Attractive, easy to use client; integrated media player, finger
client, and DNS lookup app
Cons: Could be faster, some features could be improved, lacks
filtering capabilities
New: 32-bit version released, multimedia plug-in capabilities added,
more
Version Reviewed: 16-bit - 0.80 Beta. 32-bit - 0.81 Beta

For those of us who are not IRC junkies PIRCH is a godsend. It makes IRC fun again and easy to use, it doesnt have all the scripts that MIRC has, but for "useability" I give it an A.

I dont agree, with terry when he says that mIRC is better then Pirch and when he says that only novices choose Pirch, and thats a BIG LIE, its a bit stupid to talk about software that u dont even know very well, for ex.: when u talked about pil, u only said it was a scripting language, the only thing u forgot to say was that just because it has pil, its the best damn irc client nowadays, know why, cause with pil, u can create prompt windows, toolbar windows, lists to display information, everything u can
do almost on a programming language... Now, if u go to mIRC, if u look real hard u wont see any windows, toolbars, list, nothing unless its made outside, mIRC, and then it wont be mIRC related, cause pirch can have that 2. If u want some examples just go to #pirchpil, and if u see me there, i'll give u some hundred pils, that will prove that pirch is superior to mIRC 100x. And, one more question, u said that Virc, was better cause it had, audio chat, over the IRC, well... i dont see any LIVE VIDEO THERE,
nd did u talk about that in pirch did u say it was kewl, dont see that either!!! And if ur saying that pirch is bad, just cause it's a bit slow d/l the channels list, and doesnt have mask for it, who do u think will worry about that? novices or experts? experts will make a pil with a graphical interface that will get the channels list put it like THEY want it, WHERE they want it... do u see mIRC guys doing that?
About VIRC, its a good IRC client, but for novices, i dont think it will be very good, for experts, its a good tool, but i dont think the experts will go use VIRC, since no one is using it. Now if i were u i'd go check out pils and Pirch scripts, and remake ur opinion about PIRCH, cuz WHO CARES if the lists download slower, i dont even do a list, when i get on-line!!! and do u know whats the TDCC file transfer protocol, of course not, its a file transfer protocol that transfers files about 3 times faster
han the ordinary DCC one, of course its more reliable, but till now, i didnt get any corrupted file. Ur opinion about whats best pissed me so much!!! It makes me think how guys like u can put stupid opinions like that... And if ur thinkin i dont know mIRC, i do know it, i used some time ago, when it was the best one, till pirch came... and it wasnt easy changing to pirch, but once i saw the pil capabilities of pirch, there was no stoping me... And have u heard about the ON INPUT event that pirch has and m
RC DOESNT, of course not, the only thing u did was go to pirch's homepage and look at the stuff, didnt even d/l it from the web site... ON INPUT lets u write something to the channel or a msg or something and before its sent it lets u do whatever u want with that writted stuff, u can use a text manipulating script, writing in a diferent color just by pressing some buttons in a toolbar (made with pil) thnx to ON INPUT, so dont gimme the s*** about being slow d/l the channels list cause its shining points m
re than make for that. I thank PG for making such a damn good IRC client... And i will be back to see ur reply, if u think of one........

And another thing, (I LOOOOOVE PIRCH .9x) .... That thing about bad filtering?
that's a joke.... right click on the channel list for filtering, you can save
it, you can save filter types, and you can control filtering at the server...
THE REAL WAY IT'S DONE... by true unix IRC clients. The Faster and better
way. Don't even try to tell my why mIRC is better:
Pirch has all features and 2x as many...
Pirch's speed goes up just like mIRC's when you turn off logging for some windows... and you can do ANYTHING you damn well want with it!
You ask me what you wanna do? YOu wanna make an eggie? been done!
A good Scripter has created something called the Gumdrop bot.... EXACT SAME...
just in Pirch PIL in GUI.

Well... im still waiting for u to remake the homepage on Win95 IRC clients
mIRC doesnt stand a chance against PIRCH, NEVER did, never WILL!!!!!!
Its this guys that dont deserve to have freedom of speach, hehhe
I'll keep coming here!!!!!!
Only cause i wanna see u changing the page and/or replying
Ohh, did i tell u the pirch is going to have a pil-opoly (monopoly) game and ALREADY has a tic-tac-toe game ALL GRAPHICAL, well, i dont see mIRC doing stuff like that!!!
There's a poker game for 4 already being done too!!!
mIRC's a looooooooooosssssseeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes i do agree wif any1, mIRC is just another IRC program, I am an irc addict and I do use both mIRC and PIRCH , but I still use Pirch more than mIRC , the fact is that Pirch has been better than mIRC since Pirch 8 was release, Pirch has better environment, can connect to a few servers at the same time and is able to use certain functions easily unlike mIRC. mIRC4,7 and Pirch9.0 release about the same time and i already see that Pirch9.0 is better than mIRCH4,7 , Irc users are already starting to change t
Pirch after what they heard about the advantages of Pirch. In some channels you could see people setting their topic "PIRCH9.0 HAS BEATEN MIRC4,7... PIRCH LIVES!! PIRCH RULZ IRC WORLD !! USE PIRCH, MIRC IS OUTDATED" The popularity of Pirch is increasing....
The creater of Pirch, Please dun let us down..!!
