E-Mail Connection -- Only on the Internet can you find excellent software at nominal prices. E-Mail Connection is a perfect example of this -- not only does it beat out many of the commercial mail clients like Eudora Pro, Pronto/IP, and Mail-IT, it does so while being $60-70 cheaper than these commercial clients. The amazing thing is that its toughest competition comes not from commercial clients, but instead from another freeware mail client, Pegasus Mail. Both of these clients are exceptional values and offer many options and features lacking in even the most expensive mail clients. E-Mail Connection even offers some features not found in Pegasus Mail, including the ability to choose your own background wallpaper, a status bar that shows percentage of completion for both incoming and outgoing messages, and a choice of two different 'modes' -- either easy mode for the novice user or power mode for the 'net adept. Both Pegasus Mail and E-Mail Connection have very attractive interfaces; in this case, choosing one client over another will very likely be determined solely on your own personal preferences. Both have adequate spell checkers and advanced address book/mailing list capabilities. E-Mail Connection is easy to use and performs very well, but it does lack some of the more advanced features found in Pegasus Mail. The advanced filtering and automatic reply capabilities of Pegasus Mail are mysteriously absent; E-Mail Connection currently only filters mail by allowing you to file messages into a particular folder. Also missing are advanced attachment options and, perhaps most irritating, a background polling feature for sending/receiving messages. Currently, you are unable to access any other part of the mail client or other programs while your mail is sent/received. Overall, E-Mail Connection will please a lot of users; in fact, from the mail I've been receiving, it already has. Its cost (or lack of), abundance of features, and attractive design make it an excellent mail client. However, for advanced users, it is likely to come up short when compared to Pegasus Mail. It is definitely worth trying out, and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of users prefer it over the standard fare of Eudora and perhaps even Pegasus Mail. Pros: Feature-rich, free e-mail client with an attractive interface; almost as good as Pegasus Mail Cons: Lacks Pegasus Mail's advanced filtering, attachment, and background polling options New: This is the initial review for E-Mail Connection. v2.5.03 now has signature files Version Reviewed: 2.5.03 Date of Review: 7/14/95

I think this product has a pretty package, and a number of features. But it comes up real short, as this version has been out for over a year. The only thing that has changed is their website. The other problem is that this isn't a Windows 95 product and it takes up a lot of computer power. If you like to check mail every 5 minutes like I like to do, everything stops for Email Connection. I will stick to Eudora until they can produce more updates faster than a turtle and solve the CPU hog time. Chris

I loved the free version of Email Connection so much that I bought the $50 full version. I had all sorts of trouble with it and Windows 95 so I tried to call tech support. That very week they stopped providing phone support and hired an outside firm to take care of support for a dollar a minute. I was very upset and wrote the company. Three months after the letter I've still received no response and I'm giving my copy of EMC to a friend who has Windows 3.1.

Eamil them and let them know you posted this here. Give them the url. Let's get this out in public. Or I should say, let's get a public response from the company. Maybe they'll fix you up.
