WetSock for Windows 95 -- WetSock is a Windows 95 specific
weather client that delivers current weather conditions and
forecasts to your desktop via an icon in the Windows 95 tray bar.
The icon graphically portrays the current weather conditions in the
city of your choice, and clicking on the icon will bring up additional
information. Information available to WetSock users includes
current temperature, humidity level, wind speed and direction,
barometric pressure, and general weather conditions. In addition to
current weather conditions, you can access 2-day and extended
weather forecasts for most major cities in the United States.
Unfortunately, unlike its primary competition (WinWeather),
WetSock is currently limited to locations in the United States.
WetSock also presents a minor annoyance in the fact that cities are
not sorted alphabetically and can therefore be relatively difficult to
find. Another disadvantage in WetSock is that only one city can be
monitored at a time. Despite these shortcomings, WetSock offers a
quick and efficient service for displaying the latest weather
information for your favorite city. What makes WetSock even more
impressive is that it bundles a multitude of features into a small (50
Kb) and inexpensive ($12) package. If WetSock can improve on its
current shortcomings, the forecast looks bright indeed.
Pros: Direct delivery of weather conditions and forecast to your
computer; one time fee of $12
Cons: Limited to displaying information for only one city, user
interface could be made more intuitive
New: Over 350 new cities, new and improved servers used, revised
interface, more

The file posted on the apps list says version 2 for wetsock. When you
download it, it is still the 65k version 1.5b. This is the second time
the list has indicated this file was upgraded, when in fact, it has not.

2.0 hit a snag as soon as it was released and had to be withdrawn for re-tooling. BUT 1.5b (and 2 when it's fixed) is GREAT. It is a tiny little program which eats up almost no resource (sure wish more programs would use this model!). I love the little weather icons on my tray... they change as the weather changes and are really cute. A weather warning triggers audio (first time this happened it took me a while to find out what was making that sound - we don't get many weather warnings in Seattle). V
ry cool program - very very reasonable price.
