EarthTime for Windows 95 -- EarthTime is a Netscape 2.0 plug-in designed specifically for Windows 95 and NT users. EarthTime allows you to concurrently monitor the respective times for up to eight different cities across the world. EarthTime also shows a map of the world with information on the time for your eight selected cities. The map is split between dark and light sections which represent the parts of the world divided into day and night. Users can choose from a list of more than 400 cities, and, in addition to receiving the current time, users can check out local facts for each city including the city's latitude and longitude, area code, currency, official language, population, sunrise and sunset times, moon phase, and much more. The reason EarthTime was developed into a plug-in module in the first place is unclear -- there is no need to connect to the web because all the information provided by EarthTime is static. Perhaps if Starfish Software integrated a weather client into EarthTime the plug-in module would be of more use, but as it stands now, much of the time zone information gained from EarthTime can instead be obtained with greater ease from the Windows 95 time manager client. Overall, EarthTime is an app that will be of limited use to most people, but for anyone searching for an inexpensive world clock client, EarthTime may be your best bet. Pros: Tells the current time for over 400 cities in the world, useful information about each city Cons: Generally of limited use overall, most of the information can also be found in Windows 95 New: No obvious new features Version Reviewed: 1.0 Build 02.12.96 Date of Review: 2/16/96 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud apps conference Main Menu
