OPenscape for Netscape 2.0 -- OPenscape is designed to be the next step in the evolution of web design by enabling the Construction of enterprise components using a highly productive Visual Basic-compatible environment as opposed to cumbersome HTML. OPenscape Pro allows users to create custom-designed OCX controls including embedded OLE objects (spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and more). The professional version also takes OPenscape several steps forward with the ability to design web forms and drag 'n' drop OCX controls as well as offering built-in enhanced security for web site development. However, the real value in this 16-bit plug-in module may be its ability to view OCX controls and embedded OLE objects. If you really want to see the power of OPenscape in action, check out the Internet Stock Market Ticker demo at the Object Power site -- impressive material indeed. Unfortunately, the OPenscape plug-in is currently only available for use on Windows Netscape 2.0 platforms, so more than a few users will have to wait until a non-Windows version is released in order to experience this advanced technology in action. Pros: Cool demos, custom OCX controls and embedded OLE objects within your Netscape browser Cons: Only available for Netscape 2.0 users, expensive (for applications development) New: new 32-bit version for Netscape 2.0 Version Reviewed: Beta 2 Date of Review: 2/18/96 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud apps conference Main Menu
