Fractal Viewer Plug-in for Netscape 2.0 -- Fractal Viewer is designed to allow Fractal Image Format (FIF) graphics to be viewed from within the Netscape 2.0 browser (there is also an external version available). The main attraction to fractal images is that they are resolution independent and can be zoomed (enlarged or reduced) directly from within the Netscape page. Fractal images also offer impressive compression rates (FIFs average a 20:1 compression rate) and quick downloads. Unfortunately, the plug-in module is extremely buggy at this early stage of development and there are no tools available for creating your own fractal images. Despite these two limitations, Fractal Viewer is an important tool for anyone interested in checking out the latest innovation in graphics technology. For an impressive gallery of fractal images, try out Iterated Systems' Fractal Graphics Gallery. Pros: The only app available for viewing Fractal Image Format (FIF) graphics Cons: Current release is quite buggy, limited to viewing fractal images only New: More right mouse button options, including copy image, image info, and image resize Version Reviewed: 1.1 Official Release Date of Review: 4/3/96 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud apps conference Main Menu
