Post Office -- P.O. (Post Office) is a background mail client that checks your host for mail at scheduled intervals. While Post Office only checks for mail (it's not a reader), it can easily launch the mail client of your choice when mail arrives. The advantage to using Post Office over a regular mail client for checking mail is that P.O. takes up a minimum 2-3% of system resources, as opposed to a normal mailreader, which can suck up anywhere from 7-10% of your system's resources. For users that always keep one eye on their resources, this is a great client to have. Configuration is simple in P.O., and it also incorporates many useful features, including the now-common ability of playing a .wav file when mail is received, the ability to create different icons for mail/no mail on host, quick view and quick delete options, mail filtering rules, multiple mailbox monitoring, header retrieval, and the ability to launch your favorite mailreader upon mail receipt. In addition, the icon title can be hidden or configured to report the current message count on your mail host. At $5, this is a very useful and inexpensive application for many users. Pros: Background mail checker that uses a minimum of system resources, nice array of options Cons: Doesn't read mail -- it will be easier for many users to just use their normal mail client New: Save mail to a text file, deletion confirmation, save window position, much more Version Reviewed: 2.31 Date of Review: 11/26/95 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud

This is the first time I've ever posted anything to this area so I am not sure anyone will see this or if I am doing this correctly. However, my question is regarding Post Office. I downloaded it and am having trouble opening it up. I see the icon on my desktop (win95) and when I click on it I get asked what program I want to open it. If I pick my Internet Explorer or my mail & news program it looks like it is throwing files from the download for about 10 seconds and then stops and I get nothing. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong so I can use Post Office. Thanks ANYONE for your help.

You probably need to reload it from the site. It's either an incomplete download or you need Winzip. What was the file size? That's the giveaway.
