The problem I had with News Ferret was that it does not have the capability to login to NNTP servers that require user authorization, as mine does. As a result I have to use the nothing-server provided by my ISP with News Ferret. I thought you might want to include this in your "cons."

PhoneFerret looks to be the next piece of this family. It lets you search for phone numbers and addresses of people.

That would be real useful. Except that a lot of folks change their names so often by marriage, etc.
http://www.four11.com and other such search engines are very useful for finding folks and email addresses.
