Rhino Software's FTP Voyager is another 32-bit FTP client that patterns itself after the Windows 95 Explorer interface. Like both FTP Explorer and FTP Icon Connection, FTP Voyager only displays the remote site's files, as opposed to clients like WS-FTP and CuteFTP which use a side-by-side display that shows both the local site and the remote site. As a result, you can only upload files to FTP Voyager via dragging 'n' dropping them from the Windows 95 Explorer. One advantage of this over CuteFTP is that you can transfer entire directories as well as normal files. Many of Explorer's best features have found their way into the FTP Voyager interface, including multiple file display listings (icon, list, and details views), quick sorting on multiple keys (including name, size, type, and date of last modification), right-mouse button functionality, and property details for files. FTP Voyager does have a few quirks that keep it from being more competitive with the current fare of FTP clients. Most noticeably, the client is quite slow relative to the likes of CuteFTP, FTP Explorer, and WS-FTP. And without a status or progress bar to let you know how much longer a file transfer or directory refresh will take, the sluggishness of FTP Voyager is even more pronounced. Another oddity is that you can't scroll up and down by using the Page Up and Page Down keys. FTP Voyager also lacks extensive configuration options, firewall/proxy support, file mask filtering, an extensive list of default FTP sites, automatic renaming on transfer, quick searching, a customizable toolbar, and similar features found in the competition. Overall, even with a rather inexpensive price tag ($19), FTP Voyager lacks far too many critical features to stand out in such a competitive crowd of FTP clients. Pros: Solid set of features, Windows Explorer-like interface, easy to use Cons: Slow, lacks many critical features found in the competition For the latest information on FTP Voyager for Windows 95, check out: www.stroud.com/95ftp.html#ftpvoyag apps conference Main Menu
