This may be a watershed event. Sun has offered Star Office for free on it's website. And it soon will be letting us all run it from the web as a portal app. This is the app we've all been waiting for, the "killer" one. The big one. You can find a link to it at http://www.workontheweb.com or at http://www.sun.com/products/staroffice/ Forrest, please review this app.

Star Division, the Hamburg, Germany, based company that developed and marketed it until bought by Sun Microsystems, has offered "free" licenses in the past. Any private person was allowed to download it for non-commercial purposes for free... Runs on Unix since at least two years - the only office suite next to Applix to do that, and supposedly much better (many Applix user say...). How was that to pay? Their idea - give a good, well-developed app away, and cash in on toll-support-lines.

The Spring has registered the name starofficeportal.com as we plan to run a portal here for our community so folks on the Spring can have all the tools of Microsoft Office without having to shell out 600 bucks. And hopefully our click through revenue will increase as a result.
