HTML Assistant Pro -- While the crippleware version of HTML Assistant Pro currently lacks several critical features, including the ability to automatically remove tags, it does have word wrap, automatic repeat, templates, and almost every HTML command imaginable (including support for your own user-definable tags). The biggest raps against it, though, are the 32 Kb limit for files and the crippled features found in the release. With so many features missing (including a spell checker, tables generator, and forms generator), it's hard to tell whether HTML Assistant is worth the $100 price tag, especially with the inexpensive editors offered by the competition. While a definite impetus for registering, the file size ceiling and the crippled features severely limit the utility of the freeware release of HTML Assistant. HTML Assistant Pro removes the limit; it also adds many additional features, including an automatic page creator, filters (for automatically removing tags), and a printed manual. At $99, HTML Assistant Pro definitely pales in comparison to HTML Writer's donation-ware status. Also, while useful for HTML editing, HTML Assistant is not as easy to use nor as feature-rich as HTML Writer. Pros: Solid collection of features, registered version has spell checker and more Cons: Many features are crippled in the 'net release, 32 Kb limit on files, $99 price tag New: Tables and forms generator, user definable tags, many crippled features Version Reviewed: 2.00 Release 9 Date of Review: 4/12/96 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud apps conference Main Menu
