This section of apps includes the specific category of text and voice communications clients known as Internet Relay Chat applications (IRC). These clients allow for text-based conversation in a Newsgroup-type setting. IRC clients connect with an IRC server and allow you to talk to other members of the group you choose. The IRC apps of the future are expected to include video and voice support (apps like WS-IRC video are quickly bringing the future to us today) as well as the more common text-based medium of conversation. Apps like mIRC and Netscape Chat already include hypertext support, allowing for an external web browser to be automatically launched when URLs are encountered on an IRC channel. Additional apps in this section include IRC 4 Windows and Winsock IRC. The following are brief descriptions of each application featured on the IRC Apps Page.
