In chapter 17, Jane draws a watercolor portrait of Blanche, based on the descriptions of Mrs. Fairfax, and a chalk portrait of herself. In comparing herself to Blanche, she wants to discipline her feelings, to let reason rule over passion, thinking her love wouldn�t be returned anyway. Now, is this a moment of emotional strenght? or is Jane a masochist?
