msconfig.exe is your friend. It *limits* the programs that run on your windows machine to the ones you allow. Just go to the start button and and click on "Run" and then type msconfig.exe and start limiting what runs on your computer.

What a great tool! It's been saving me lately from sluggish computer performance. Why have a bunch of apps and system tray programs running that you're not using. You can always check the box for them in msconfig and get them back. Here's a good tutorial: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

And you don't have to download it, it comes with Windows.
