FTP2000 for Windows 95 Quick Desc: A new, easy to use FTP client that sports an Explorer-like interface Location: http://www.qoi.com/FTP2000/ftp2inst.EXE Version: 1.0 Beta 1 Size: 670 Kb Status: Shareware - $39.95 Company: Quintessential Objects, Inc. Website: http://www.qoi.com/cgi-local/qoi.cgi?pg=Ftp2 FTP2000 has the humble goal of being the best native 32-bit FTP Client in history. It certainly patterns itself after one of the best -- many of the features and aspects of the interface mirror those of the reigning champ, CuteFTP, quite closely. While FTP2000 is still in early beta release, the client still has a lot of ground to cover before it can be considered in the same class as the likes of CuteFTP and WS-FTP. Like CuteFTP, it sports critical features like a smooth drag and drop interface, Keep-Alive connection pulsing for avoiding FTP timeouts, directory and multiple file transfers, auto-detect transfer mode, right-mouse button functionality, file mask filtering, firewall/proxy support, integration with the system registry for file association and pulling proxy information, a basic site manager (lacks an extensive collection of sites), quick sorting (on name, size, type, and dates of files), and more. For a new release, this is quite a selection of features, but FTP2000 does lack several important features found in the competition, including options for creating new directories as well as renaming and removing files and existing directories, an online help system, file searching, auto-renaming capabilities, a customizable toolbar, local and remote path saving, CuteFTP's integrated file listing process (with descriptions from the remote site's index file), WS-FTP's auto-reget (automatic resume), session spawning, and automatic logging. Pros: Solid set of features, Explorer-like interface and tools, easy to use Cons: Lacks critical features found in the competition, expensive relative to the competition Version Reviewed: 1.0 Beta 1 Date of Review: 8/24/96 For the latest information on FTP2000 check out http://www.stroud.com/95ftp.html#ftp2000

Cool, a new contender in the race to come up with the perfect ftp program. This sure has some impressive features but some glaring omissions. Hmm, I wonder if it has view source with notepad?

umm.....just a thought......how does an app like this rate 5 stars when the review says its expensive and is lacking a lot of things the competition has? I understand its an early beta, but lets compare apples with apples....

Not only does it have a souped up notepad, according to an email I just got, but it has colored html tags to go along with it. This may be an application on the move up.

Some more details from Jim Friskel's email: "I've just put a new version of FTP2000 up at http://www.qoi.com/qoi.cgi [ I got it from http://www.qoi.com/cgi-local/qoi.cgi ] It includes a builtin remote editor. It's a souped-up notepad which allows you to edit the file and save changes back to the FTP site without download-edit-upload. It also has a builtin HTML editor which provides syntax coloring when editing HTML files, remotely or locally."

In response to George Carey's post, FTP2000 was inadvertantly given a 5-star rating. The correct rating is 3 1/2 stars but watch for this to change as more features are added...

Whew! Forrest's rating system is still on track. I've started using FTP2000 and feel like it could use a few lessons from WS_FTP but it appears to be changing and moving on a fast track. How do you save a directory location once you've connected to a site so that this directory location comes up automatically the next time you visit that ftp site? And just what is Diva2000? I take it you have to have this for remote file editing?
