The most earthshaking news about Stroud since we started this conference arrived today: The CWSApps List - Press Release MECKLERMEDIA ACQUIRES THE CWSAPPS LIST STROUD'S CWSAPPS TO BECOME AN INTEGRAL PART OF MECKLERMEDIA'S iWORLD WEB SITE WESTPORT, CT (December 19,1996) -- Alan M. Meckler, chairman and CEO of Mecklermedia Corporation (NASDAQ: MECK), today announced that the Company has acquired Stroud's Consummate Winsock Applications (CWSApps) Web site, located at www.stroud.com and www.cwsapps.com, from Forrest Stroud of College Station, Texas. Known as The CWSApps List, the site is recognized as the foremost Web site for Windows Internet applications, from web browsers to e-mail clients to stock tickers. CWSApps is widely used by Internet professionals looking for the latest information about Internet-related software. The site provides a manageable interface and insightful reviews of Web authoring tools, the latest browsers, helper applications, and other essential software. "This acquisition marks the eighth Web site that we have acquired in the past two years and it is certainly our largest," stated Tristan Louis, executive director of iWORLD. "CWSApps.com is one of the larger sites on the Internet for daily traffic and when its 5 million monthly page views are added to our nearly 3.5 million monthly page views, iWORLD.com will now be one of the largest Internet business-oriented Web sites in the world. Furthermore, when packaged with our already widely read Browserwatch.com, Webcompare.com, Serverwatch.com and iWORLD's 20 developer and designer columnists, iWORLD is clearly the number one site for Internet developer and design information throughout the Internet industry," added Louis. Alan Meckler added, "With this acquisition, our Web site is now the number one business-to-business Internet industry Web site both in terms of monthly page views and advertising. And when combined with our number one position with Internet print publications and trade shows, Mecklermedia is now the dominant company both in the USA and abroad in providing focused business-to-business information about the Internet." Forrest Stroud, creator of The CWSApps List, will join Mecklermedia as a full-time employee and will continue to head up the CWSApps.com editorial side. "I am pleased to be joining with Mecklermedia and see this acquisition as an opportunity to use Mecklermedia trade shows and print titles such as Web Week, Internet World and Web Developer to further leverage the growth of The CWSApps List." Mecklermedia Corporation, based in Westport, Connecticut, is the leading provider of Internet information through its publications Internet World, Web Week, Web Developer, and Internet Shopper, its Internet World Trade Shows, Web Developer and Web Interactive Conferences, and iWORLD, its electronic daily newspaper for Internet information and resources, located at http://www.iworld.com.
