Twinsock -- This is a freeware program that enables non-SLIP
users to achieve a pseudo-SLIP connection, much like the
commercial software package, TIA (The Internet Adapter). With
the
Newest release, support has been added for Windows 95 and also
for a wide range of 32-bit winsock applications. Troy's Winsock
(named after the author, Troy Rollo) is similar to TIA in many
ways, including the 'magic' of enabling a UNIX account user
without access to SLIP to use standard winsock applications. Most
applications, with the exclusion of CU-SeeMe, Ping, and a few
others, will work without the need for a SLIP connection. Both
Twinsock and TIA 'fake' an IP address to get clients to work, but
the same procedure will not work for running a remote server.
Twinsock experiences more compatibility problems with winsock
applications than does TIA, but it is free. SLIP/PPP users will get
much greater compatibility with Trumpet than with Twinsock or
TIA, but for those users without access to SLIP or PPP, this is a
must-have client.
Pros: Run 16-bit and 32-bit winsock apps without a true SLIP
connection!
Cons: Compatibility problems with some winsock apps, can't run
remote servers
New: Support for Windows 95 and 32-bit winsock internet clients
