FTP Serv-U -- This $20 shareware application has been in rapid
development lately. FTP Serv-U will cease functioning after 30
days unless you register it. Features include multiple simultaneous
access, anonymous logins, an extensive set of security options, and
complete instructions in the accompanying on-line help. FTP
Serv-U is offered in both 16 and 32-bit versions and will work on
Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT platforms. Recent
improvements to Serv-U include IP domain logging, enhanced
security, additional configurability options.
Pros: Great selection of features, 16 and 32-bit versions,
inexpensive
Cons: Some users will prefer the competition's offering, the $15
WFTPD server
New: Enhanced security features, additional configurability options,
IP domain logging, more
Version Reviewed: 2.0b

I have found this extremely useful on our production html authoring Windows 95 machines. It is nice to be able to be at home and grab something off of our machine at the office whenever I need it. With Website and this program you can nearly turn a Windows 95 into a full fledged service provider, all you would need is an email server and a way to accept dial up access and you could turn a Windows 95 system into a mini-isp.

Just a few notes:
* The current price of Serv-U is $25 (Don't blame me, all due to success! :-)
* Today of tomorrow I'll be bringing out v2.0c. This is mainly a maintenance
release version, fixing all known bugs and adding multi-homed IP support.
* The latest version can be found at
http://www.cat-soft.com. If your bookmark
points to
catsoft.dorm.duke.edu then please update it since the latter will
cease to work in a little while.
* There is also a mailing list for Serv-U related discussion and questions.
To subscribe, send an E-mail to
list@corridor.com with only a single line
of text in the message body reading:
subscribe Serv-U
If all went well you'll get a reply from the list server in a minute or so
with detailed instructions.
Finally, Thanks Terry! For setting this conference list up...

We are using this product, in conjunction with Windows HTTPD v1.4c on an Intel 486dx/66, operating as a background operation under WFWG 3.11, to provide a dirt cheap, browser accessible, dial-in (via dedicated POTS line) intrAnet server to 32 worldwide sites. All products are registered. The total software cost of this machine (not including some nice-but-not-necessary software), including DOS & WFWG 3.11, is currently around $300. The machine dresses out at about $600 (B&W monitor, 28.8 modem, 16mb me
ory, ethernet card, 540MB HD). The machine is also networked into our local 20-computer network, so we have access to it over the network directly. Furthermore, it is usable as a stand-alone computer with access to the rest of the network. We are now working on figuring out how to add a cheap mail server package (recommendations anybody?). This package works most excellently, but it is not an amateur operation to set up...
But then, for the ultimate cheap, there's our Linux experiment...

Never heard of it, but I have not heard (excepting for here) of WS-FTP either.
My favorite by miles is CuteFTP which I have stated on the topic concerning this little gem of a program.
