Zellweger's first released starring role was in Love and .45. Zellweger's complete appearance in "Dazed and Confused" (three scenes) was replayed during her appearance on the Letterman show.

Now that is pretty :-))

A most excellent gallery, how delightful. The first picture looks *nothing* like she looked in the movie. The second and fourth pictures are downright seductive. Almost too much to handle all at once. . . . a million hits a week thanks to Renee, Colin, Hugh and , can't get over it!
~mikeg Wed, May 2, 2001 (10:21) #10
Not bad, huh? Maybe we could get her to host a webchat live at the Spring :-)

I watched the sequence on Renee on Entertainment Tonight. She actually went undercover as a secretary at a bookpublishing company in London, the same company that published "Bridget Jones Diary", and no one 'cept one observant worker caught on to who it was. She got great reviews and the folks there wan't to hire her permanently. Her boss had to take the one lady aside who caught on who kept saying "She looks exactly like . . ." The real good news is that she gets to *lose* 20 lbs. for the next movie. She's really fun to watch in Bridget Jones Diary, having overcome the stigma of a Texas gal playing an English woman. She even got good press on her accent from some English publications who didn't din her too badly.

Yeah, I read something similar about her "undercover" work. Interesting stuff. I guess she wasn't well known before this, so she would likely go unnoticed!

Now for some local, "inside" news about Renee from some Texas sources he knew her back in her strip club days. Mostly from "Corky" Corcoran, gossipist extraordinaire. Zwegs and George Clooney may be an "item". That's the Hollydood buzz after the two slow danced for half ann hour at Renees 32nd birthday party in LA last week. Cork wonders if they talked about Sugars (Austin topless club) where Zwegs waited tables and Clooney has been known to "make the tables dance".

"back in her strip club days" ok, now you've *really* piqued my interest :-) do share more!!

That's all the news I have for now, but I'll keep my ears to the ground.

Rene loves to hang out at Guerro's on the patio when she's in Austin. And the Oasis at Lake Travis is a favorite place to sip margueritas and watch the sun go down. Topic 149 of 177: 'Bridget Jones's Diary - nowhere near the edge of reason (Part 4)' Resp 1752 of 1753: Sonia (socadook) Thu, May 29, 2003 (09:43) 3 lines (Terry) Doesn't that work out to $1 million per pound? Whew, is that the fallout from Oprah's Texas trial? ;-) Visited friends in Austin a couple of times. Loved hanging out at the Oasis. Is that Lake Travis?
~admin Thu, Feb 12, 2004 (14:39) #23
It's a mil a pound Sonia. That's pretty good incentive. But the part doesn't really call for it? I guess we'll verify that when we see it.
~terry Wed, Feb 18, 2004 (09:06) #24
Now news reports are denying she ever made this deal.

Up until she appeared opposite Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire (1996), Renee Zellweger's name was almost unknown outside of Hollywood and the independent film circuit. The beauty and natural ability that Zellweger exhibited as Cruise's love interest caught the attention of critics and audiences alike. Though she was passed by at that year's Oscars, she won several other awards for her work, including the title of Best Breakthrough Performer by the National Board of Review. Of Swiss and Norwegian parentage, the willowy, strawberry blonde actress was born in Katy, TX, a small town located near Houston. The town was so small that it possessed neither cable television nor a movie theater. As a result, Zellweger reportedly did not see her first art film until she was a student at the University of Texas in Austin. Her career at U.T. was an exceptional one; a regular on the dean's list, she graduated a year early with a B.A. in Radio, Film, and Television. While in college, Zellweger took an acting class and discover d a knack for performing; following graduation, she made her feature-film debut with a bit part in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused (1993). She had her first real role playing a whacked-out waitress in Love and a .45 (1994), for which she won her first Independent Spirit Award nomination; she won a second nomination for The Whole Wide World (1996), earning additional acclaim at various film festivals. Following the tremendous success of Jerry Maguire, Zellweger went on to prove herself as a versatile actress able to play roles ranging from an ambitious journalist (who temporarily shelves her career to care for her mother) in One True Thing (1998) to a rebellious Hassidic Jew in Boaz Yakin's A Price Above Rubies (1998). She then exhibited a capacity for romantic comedy in The Bachelor (1999), starring as the long-suffering girlfriend of a serial commitment-phobic Chris O'Donnell. Zellweger's second role as a whacked-out waitress in Nurse Betty won her the Best Actress in a Comedy Award at the 2000 Gold n Globes. Nominated for yet another Golden Globe the following year for her memorable performance in Bridget Jones' Diary, that same role also earned Zellweger her maiden Oscar nod. The following few years found Zellweger's leading lady status growing and numerous lucrative film offers flowing in, and the release of White Oleander (2002) the starlet recieved numerous positive reviews despite the films lackluster performance. Later that same year, Zellweger was on top of the world when she recieved rave reviews for her role in Chicago. Based on the popular Broadway musical of the same name, director Rob Marshall's flashy cinematic extravaganza recieved nearly unanimous praise accompanied by multiple Academy Award nominations, including a second Best Actress in a Leading Role nod to Ms. Zellweger for her lively performance. Though Zelleger would ultimately be beaten out for the Oscar by Nicole Kidman, there evidently weren't any hard feelings as the two starred together in Anthony Minghella's Cold Mountain. T e performance netted Zellweger her third Oscar nomination in as many years, and on February 29, 2004, her losing streak ended as she took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Attempting to keep up the momentum, Zellweger returned to the character that earned her her first Academy Award nomination, starring in the sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. After a limited release in December 2004, the film is slated to open wide in early 2005. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Rene Zellweger's Biography Her real name is Rene Kathleen Zellweger. Born on the 25th of April, 1969 (that makes her 31 by now) in Houston, Texas. Her father, Emil, is a Swiss oil refinery engineer and her mother, Kjellfried, is a Norwegian nurse. She was raised in the small town of Katy, Texas (10 miles west of Houston, 30 miles west of Houston downtown). Katy was too small that it didn't have any movie theater nor cable. It only had its first movie theater back in 1989 and Renee didn't see her first film until she was in college. Renee and his older brother Andrew, nicknamed Drew, were the first Zellwegers in their family to be born in America so don't go asking them to change their last name into something more pronounceable. She attended Katy High School and was part of the Thespian Society, the Drama Club, the track team, the basketball team, was a football cheerleader, a KHS Homecoming Queen nominee in her senior year , and in her spare time practiced gymnastics. She had hopes of joining the Olympics until the age of 19 when she discovered that her vision of "Olympic Glory" would never happen. After graduating from Katy High in 1987, Renee moved from her hometown to Austin, Texas. She earned a living in Austin as a waitress at Sugar's, a popular Austin topless bar (though she herself was not topless) while attending the University of Texas for her B.A. in English, majoring in Journalism. She apparently did exceptionally well, making the Dean's List several times. Renee lived in an off-campus dorm in Dobie Mall in her freshmen year, and then moved into an apartment on West 221/2 St. in her junior year. Sad to say, she lived in the Railyard apartment complex on 4th Street with a boyfriend her senior year, and later moved into a house with him in Westlake (Austin's high-class suburb). She eventually moved out and into an apartment on Riverside Drive. Renee had taken a theater class to fulfill one of her liberal arts requirements. She acted in a few school theater productions and often found herself driving her red Honda Civic CRX to Dallas to audition for film parts. She worked in a few local commercials for beer companies and fast food restaurants. In 1988, Renee got herself a pet. A d g named Dylan, named after the singer. She is a labrador/collie mix and Renee has give Dylan a variety of nicknames such as Woof, Woofro and Woofer. After graduating from college, Renee worked on a few movies with tiny bit parts in 'My Boyfriend's Back',''Dazed and Confused', 'Reality Bites', '8 Seconds' and a few TV movies before starring in the independent film 'Love and a .45' and making her way into Hollywood. 'Dazed and Confused' starred many of the Gen-X we see in the movies now, but because of the budget, Renee could only work as a background person. You could spot her wearing a red 'n blue stripped top and white pants. In the movie there's a party in the park and you'll see Renee several times blending in, but she she really stands out sitting on the hood of a green truck pouring beer down Parker Posey's mouth. Renee's first lead starring role was in 'The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre' working along with her co-star in 'Dazed and Confused', Matthew McConaughey. While working on Texas Chainsaw, she caught word of another film project that had started casting. Renee continued working at Sugar's and did more commercials until she decided to move to California in 1993. Renee moved into a little garage apartment in West Hollywood with Dylan. When she arrived in L.A., the phone was ringing off the hook for Renee to 'do lunch'. She singed up with the management company of Gallin-Morey & Associates (Beverly Hills) having John Carrabino as her manager. This is the same management company of Nicole Kidman, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey. She also singed up with United Talent Agency (Beverly Hills), having Nick Stevens as her agent. For several years she had a boyfriend - an actor she declines to name - in and out of her place but that ended centuries ago. .). She was tied to Josh Pate, who, with his twin brother Jonas, directed Renee in 'Deceiver', released in January 1998. She starred in 'Empire Records' and was chosen to star in 'The Whole Wide World' (also shot in the Austin area). This role opened the door for her role in 'Jerry Maguire', a film which passed over W nona Ryder, Mira Sorvino, Marisa Tomei and Bridget Fonda for the then-unknown Rene. Her performance as Dorothy Boyd won her unanimous critical praise and introduced her to a legion of adoring fans. She has been honored with a SAG nomination for 'Jerry Maguire', and Independent Spirit Award nomination for 'The Whole Wide World', but was unfairly denied an Academy Award nomination for either film. She has been seen most recently in 'Deceiver' with Chris Penn and Tim Roth, in which she plays a prostitute who gets murdered, the controversial independent drama 'A Price Above Rubies' about a Hasidic Jew woman who has a scandalous affair with a Latin lover, 'One True Thing' based on Anna Quinlen's best-selling book, with Oscar-winners Meryl Streep and William Hurt as her parents. She has recently starred in the movies, 'The Bachelor', where she plays as Anne, and 'Nurse Betty', where she plays as Betty, and 'Me, Myself and Irene' where she plays as Irene and co-stars Jim Carrey. She had recently won the Golden Globe Award for being the Best Actress in a Comedy in her film, "Nurse Betty". Her new movie, "Bridget Jones' Diary" co-starring Hue Grant and Colin Firth, was such a success and I do believe that they are already planning for the sequel for the movie, of course, still starring Rene..
