This is for a friend of mine, Julie, who is known here as cascadeclimber. Julie is a volcano lover/chaser, rockaholic of the first order and future volcanologist. She is also a dear friend. Julie, this is for you.

might you elucidate on what the "fdg" is supposed to be telling us? Or can you only comment in shorthand. Get your foot out of your mouth. I works wonders for your enunciation. Mffghf

Hi all Good point. Rob

Hi all A poem for thy gracious girl Julie, A gentle creature, True to her word, Gracious for eternity, A jewel standing out, Like a sapphire ring. Versatile and free, She runs across dome, And flow. Her eyes sparkling with pleasure, That mischevous twinkle, Beautiful soul and open, Her warmth puts a fire to shame. Her drive and determination, Gracing the world and me, An inspiration to all, A crying shame should she fall. Julie Gilbert, You are the one and only, Rise and rise you shall, Loyal unto death. She gives hope to many, She defends the not so lucky, Traversing cultural boundaries, With care and wisdom. You mean the world to so many, So far away. Julie... Rob

*smiles shyly* That was very beautiful, Rob. You have just added to my fantastic week. Thank you. I've been very very busy. Things are so hectic right now, I can barely think.
~MarciaH Wed, May 22, 2002 (23:57) #8
Rob, you write poetry, too? Julie you are a very fortunate lady.
~MarciaH Wed, May 22, 2002 (23:59) #9
And, Julie has had honors heaped on her of later. If she will not tell you, I will do so! She told me.
~AotearoaKiwi Thu, May 23, 2002 (03:06) #10
Hi all Amateur poet. But not brilliant or a great passion. And Julie dear, what honors are you hiding from me, honey?? Things are thick and fast here too. I have 2 assignments I am currently working on and a third one to start shortly. I have my lower gum done tomorrow and have just arranged to take Saturday of work. Ah, such is life. Crusaders play the ACT Brumbies at Jade Stadium on Saturday. This is the final of the 2002 Super 12 Rugby season and as always I believe, I truly believe, that the Crusaders... will win. Rob

rob, you and I need to make a huge noise about Julie's being given the honor of being asked to tutor college Geography next year. Our Girl is beautiful and brilliant and one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Call her Honey... she is the very personification of the word.
~AotearoaKiwi Wed, May 29, 2002 (07:06) #12
Hi all I honoured Julie in the Geo Guys topic on Screwed. But it would have been cool to be there when she was asked. Rob
~AotearoaKiwi Wed, May 29, 2002 (07:11) #13
Hi all She is even more. People like her friend Aman owe a lot to her, though she might modestly deny some of it because Julie quite rightly stood up for them when they needed the help. Her friend Bobi is disabled and I think in a wheel chair, and had to endure shocking abuse when she was younger, and Julie knew to go to go to her aid. Now if that is not awesome then I do not know what is. Rob
~MarciaH Thu, May 30, 2002 (00:30) #14
Yes, Indeed Julie is a lady of many parts. Each one better than the last. Most of us will never know the details Julie has entrusted to us, but folks, Julie is every bit of what Rob says she is, and more!!! Whomever gets to spend their life with her will be truly blessed. She's gonna be a heck of a mother!
~MarciaH Thu, May 30, 2002 (00:32) #15
WHOEVER....the subject not the object. Arrrrgh!!!
~AotearoaKiwi Fri, May 31, 2002 (03:01) #16
Hi all She is also making me jealous. She is on or near a volcano at the time of writing this that makes me green with envy. Yes, Julie Gilbert is on Mount St Helens to climb to the summit of this volcanic wonder. I WANNA GO TOO!!!!!!!! Rob
~MarciaH Sun, Jun 2, 2002 (00:23) #17
Yo, Rob, Sweetie, I'l be messing about with molten lava in the next few days. Are you the one one sans volcano? There is a little beach... *;)

Hi all Where is the toast of the subject these days *grins*? Rob
~cascadeclimber Wed, Jul 17, 2002 (20:08) #22
I am here. No need to worry. I was sick of doing nothing so I figured it would be nice if I spent most of the day posting stuff.
~MarciaH Wed, Jul 17, 2002 (23:43) #23
Fantastic posting, Julie! You are one in a million and we cherish you every chance we get.
~AotearoaKiwi Fri, Jul 19, 2002 (07:34) #24

Wow, back in Hawaii. We know you'll check in and keep us posted. Good luck getti9ng everything sorted out there.
~MarciaH Mon, Dec 23, 2002 (20:25) #29
Hawaii is soggy. My long pretty hair is gonna have to be cut short and curly again. Perhaps I may get a drive up to the volcano to see what is happening. I miss Kentucky. They are being snowed under.
~terry Wed, Dec 25, 2002 (08:06) #30
Wow, soggy. We had a couple of wet days in Texas but it's cold and clear for Christmas. Merry Christmas, Julie, Marci and everyone! How is your Christmas Julie?
~MarciaH Wed, Dec 25, 2002 (15:15) #31
I IM'd with Julie last night. She will have a Merry Christmas by the sound of it. She is doing very well in college and applying to future institutions where she will continue her geology degree. How wonderful is that?
~terry Wed, Dec 25, 2002 (18:46) #32
Very wonderful indeed!

Hi all Julie. Rob calling (IM me)... Rob
~cascadeclimber Sun, Mar 2, 2003 (19:28) #34
UGH! I am so confused with life right now I don't even know where to start. If I wasn't so stubborn I would just give up. But I don't. Why... I don't know...your guess is as good as mine. The counclors at my school don't know anything. No one is any help at all. Everyone seems to think I can figure things out by myself. But then they come up to me ask me why I am subjecting myself to so much misery. Why? Well I guess if you have one dream in life, one ambition, you will do anything in your power to make it come true. I think most would have quit by now, but not me, which is the problem. I am so frustrated and confused about all of this. Maybe life is supposed to be confusing like this...like a never-ending maze.
~cascadeclimber Thu, Mar 6, 2003 (19:00) #35
I am so so so releaved! Everyone thought the worst about my little ski accident I had on Saturday. The doctors were convinced that I had fractured my neck. The CT results came back negative. I am so so happy. Thank God. I really thought I had screwed myself this time. Its just a very bad sprain. Maybe next time I should listen to my own body and follow my head rather than my heart.
~MarciaH Fri, Mar 7, 2003 (11:17) #36
JULIE!!!! What are you doing on skis again? Gravity sees you and makes you fall in the most horrible ways. I wish you would stick to live volcanoes. HUGS!!! We love you...!
~MarciaH Fri, Mar 7, 2003 (11:19) #37
Come back online and IM... We miserable ones must cheer up the others *;)

Hey I'm back. I was reading these posts again after nearly 4 years. They made me cry. Hey Rob, you still around? IM me sometime. My screen name is still cascadiaclimber. I miss talking with you. Hi Terry! Hi Wolfe! Hey everyone else who I forgot to mention, lol!
~cascadiaclimber Tue, Aug 7, 2007 (01:48) #39
So where do I begin? Well, I'm at California State University Long Beach now. I'm currently a senior and will be graduating in May with a degree in physical geography and a minor in geology. Actually, I'm in the middle of some major health issues I am trying to recover from, mostly my knee. I was in a horrible soccer accident about one month after the last post on here (March 7th, 2003). I have been in and out of orthopedic doctor's in physical therapy off and on now for 4 years. I have had 1 major knee surgery in August 2003, a minor one in January 2006, and I am going in for another one on the 21st of this month. I'll go into details for those that ask, but its such a complicated long story. No, it has nothing to do with the MCL, ACL, or meniscos. Yes, I have gotten to be a real whiz at the anatomy of the knee now. It's a lot worse than those type of injuries. I still cannot walk properly and may never. I use crutches sometimes and always wear a big ugly metal knee brace. I already have arthritis in my injured knee. The surgery I'm going in for this month is just basic anthroscopic....but it's only to buy me some more time, till I finish school. Then I will need major surgery again....worse than a knee replacement to realign my entire knee, which involves basically drilling holes into my leg bone. The recovery is long with 6 months in bed. And the sad part is it is only a 70% gurantee that it will work. After all I've been through 70% does not sound like very good odds considering all the doctors said 98% on my last surgeries. For right now I am completly against the major surgery. Besides, I'm more interested in finishing school right now. If I have to walk up to the podium on crutches at my graduation, so be it. I refuse to stop school just so I can have a horrifying surgery that may not even work. I'm in pretty good spirits considering. My boyfriend, Trevor, of 1.5 years, has helped me through things and kept my mind off it which I need desperatly right now. I've been rethinking a lot o my dreams and goals wondering if I will be able to accomplish them. I also wonder how many years I will have left until I cannot use that leg at all. I'm trying very hard to look past these things and live my life the way I want to live it REGUARDLESS of my injury. I think that is the lesson and challenge people with physical limitations must learn.
~cascadiaclimber Tue, Aug 7, 2007 (02:08) #40
Let me tell you a bit about my hero, my knight in shining armor, my companion, my best friend, my soulmate, my lover, my boyfriend, and my future husband, Trevor. We met through his best friend, who decided he didn't like me (actually I don't think he likes women period!). Trevor emailed me one day and we conversed through email and on the phone for a while. Then we finally met several weeks later at my college to watch a volleyball game. A few weeks later we had fallen madly in love. He is everything I have wanted in a man. He's funny, understanding, sensitive (very emotional, a girl's dream guy!), caring, and very loving. He's into geology and collecting rocks just like me. He also loves the great outdoors as I do as well. We usually go camping at least 2 times a month. We talk about marriage a lot. We decided we will wait till we are both done with school, which for him will be in 3 years. He's a in a trade school for fire sprinkler fitting. He's only an apprientice now, but when he moves up the rankings and eventually becomes a foreman, he will be making quite a lot of money and will finally be bosing other people around. We are also quite involoved in his side business which is selling gun asscceories. He's been doing quite well at the local gun shows that we have gone too, but he is now expanding his business to a local warehouse... well he's trying. It's expensive. He has taken me out shooting a few times. I've been enjoying it actually, especially shooting the 22, which is just perfect for a novice since it has no kick what so ever. Anyway, I'm finally happy with my life (expcept for my knee problem). I love Trevor so much and I can't wait to see what the future holds for the two of us together.
~Gregory Tue, Aug 7, 2007 (08:15) #41
Hope everything works out for you in the future and it's sound s like you found a great guy in Trevor and it sound slike he has found a great gal in his finding you.
~cfadm Thu, Aug 30, 2007 (16:52) #42
Awesome to hear from you Julie.. I thought I had a knee problem!! It makes me feel like I have nothing really. Just a sore knee. Congrats on the hookup with Trevor, he sounds like a great guy. This is hard news, knowing you to be such an active person. But I'm very happy to hear that you're satisfied with life overall. And I'm very glad you're back.
