BMW M Coupe/M Roadster... Why?

After bringing out the Z3 roadster, BMW made a high performance version called the M Roadster. Then they brought out exceedingly ugly hatchback variants called the Z3 Coupe and the M Coupe. I cannot understand the rationale behind the M Roadster. The Z3 Roadster is coooler for less money. The M3 is faster, quicker and better handling for maybe US$300 more. But as unfathomable as the M Roadster is, the M Coupe is worse, because not only is the M3 faster, quicker, better handling, more spacious AND more comfortable, it is also much, MUCH better looking!!! What the hell was BMW thinking? 5 new of

Well, there is no longer an M Coupe or an M Roadster. The Z3 has been superseded by the Z4. I find the new designation to be a bit odd, as I figured that the Z3 was supposed to be a roadster (Z) based on the 3-series. Is there going to be a 4-series? And why have they made the new BMW roadster look like something that Monty Python's foot should step on?

R850R, or R1150R among those sold in the US. Then again, I will soon be giving up motorcycles, so maybe I should change that... I liked the 318ti and wished the model had lasted more than a year. Of the current BMW car models, I guess my favourite would be the 325i Wagon or the 340i Wagon.

Are you settling down? Turning practical on us? What's up with the station wagon?

I have always preferred station wagons and hatchbacks to sedans. They have more and easier luggage access and are just as sturdy. I have always wondered why everybody thinks a 4-door sedan is practical; to my thinking the 4-door sedan is even more compromised than a coupe or convertible. Coupes and convertibles are more optimized toward FUN, hatchbacks and wagons ar optimized toward value and cargo capacity, a 4-door sedan is a compromise between the two, and not a very good one. I am not a fan of SUVs. If BMW made a van, I would have chosen that. I will never choose the X5. A van or a wagon can carry work equipment from office to site during the week and guitar gear from home to wherever on the weekend. A sedan can do that too, but it's more work, and it may not handle the work equipment well enough...
