From cottages to snow babies.....
~MarciaH Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (01:31) #1
The same lady who collects Beenie Babies has her entire living room 5or 6 tiers deep in Studio 54 towns. It is truly magical, but they really got pasted by the Northridge earthquake!

What are Studio 54 towns? I guess I only remember Studio 54 in NYC... Gotta be a different scene, no?
~wolf Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (09:34) #3
Studio 54 makes collectable miniature homes, stores, street signs, etc. you can put the whole deal together and make your own magical world. they are usually seen around christmas time. studio 54 also does the snowbabies line.

Gee, and I always thought that was this heavy-disco night club in New York. Guess I *do* grow old.
~wolf Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (13:45) #5
heh heh, i meant dept 56, hahahahaha!!
~aschuth Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (13:57) #6
You crazie crazie disco fox, arh, 'cuse me, funky funky disco wolf! Arf Arf! Hoooowl! Now, you just need to tell me what Marcia was on about - she doesn't sound too disco to me. Perhaps grunge? (BTW, have you heard from Monsieur LePlep lately? Just thought here's a cool line waiting for him to pick it up...)
~wolf Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (17:10) #7
haven't heard from him....wonder where he is!
~MarciaH Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (19:11) #8
I love Dept 56 and am delighted that I do not have to dust them - I just go visit them and help them pick out new "investments." I was beginning to wonder if anyone was reading this stuff, and since this was postless...! They do not go in for Snow Babies, though. Theirs is almost entirely traditionally Dickens or pre-modern Americanan. They have some Disney, which is truly tacky, but that is made by someone else. I would collect David Winter Cottages and cathedrals if I were as rich as I am clever!
~wolf Thu, Jun 10, 1999 (22:16) #9
the not so rich collect them anyway! my snowbabies are only displayed at christmas. thanks, marcia, for dropping in to this nearly postless corner of the spring. do come back and keep us on our toes!!

yes, please

They began collecting very early on and have amassed a huge collection - ostensibly for "the granddaughter" but it looks as though everyone is in on it. And, there is not a room (yup! the bathrooms, too) without a little town in it. They have one village I particularly love which is not in the livingroom with the rest. It sits atop the "entertainment center" (tv and stereo cabinet)in the family room and is of a Middle-eastern village around the time of Jesus' birth. They also have the set which is enti ely made of glass which shows how Santa makes toys at the North Pole by shaping them out of ice and using a little magic...! It is so beautiful with lighting from beneath.

one of the local collector's shops has the villages and snowbabies and they do displays with both of them. it's really neat, but i'm not so creative, nor do i have the space (nope, not even in the bathroom)!

I am very surprised that so few have joined this discussion group. There are enough dedicated collectors in the Southern California area to keep social gatherings such as theme parties and travelling dinners going all year. Let's see, what can we do for your collection. My huband always starts his sentences with "if we knock out this wall..." Well, it *is* a method of making more space.
~aschuth Sat, Jun 12, 1999 (05:06) #14
So, how can we knock this wall to get more folks over here, Marcia? I mean, theres thousands of responses per day e.g. in drool, but everybody there is quite content with that conf. ;=/ Hey, how about some Droolian-focused topics in Collecting? Think they might take to that?
~wolf Sat, Jun 12, 1999 (11:46) #15
i guess we need to invite some prominent collectors.
~MarciaH Sat, Jun 12, 1999 (14:46) #16
Know any? I could drop asuggestion to the family I have been speaking of, but there is not enough going on in here to interest them yet, I think. It would be me interviewing them...but that might just work. But, they just might find what I have been doing in Drool for almost 3 years and some other places here, too. They think I am a proper lady. Hmmmm....working up an alias...!
~MarciaH Sat, Jun 12, 1999 (14:55) #17
(ashuth) how about some Droolian-focused topics in Collecting? Think they might take to that? Have you checked out Drool Topic 113 lately? I seem to have been assigned that topic to keep viable. We have lists for everything we can think of - most are virtual wish-lists, but this might work here. As in: If you had all of the money in the world, what would you collect. No, they would all dash off to David Winter's topic! Hmmmm....think, think. I can always post something on 113 . Any suggestions? Check it out, first, though. It is absolutely amazing what we make lists of!
~KitchenManager Sat, Jun 12, 1999 (23:32) #18
I think I'd collect followers...
~stacey Tue, Jun 15, 1999 (15:40) #19
and where would you put them all?
~KitchenManager Tue, Jun 15, 1999 (21:59) #20
on another continent...
~stacey Wed, Jun 16, 1999 (09:27) #21
that many eh?
~KitchenManager Wed, Jun 16, 1999 (10:58) #22
if I was going to collect them, I'd do it right!
~stacey Wed, Jun 16, 1999 (13:47) #23
so are we talking your followers or followers in general?
~KitchenManager Thu, Jun 17, 1999 (15:03) #24
sure!
~MarciaH Fri, Jul 16, 1999 (15:58) #25
Were you planning on staying there with them? Sort of nurture my collecion sort, are you?
~MarciaH Fri, Jul 16, 1999 (16:05) #26
(you seem to have done something in that line already...)
~KitchenManager Sat, Jul 17, 1999 (09:55) #27
something like that...
~MarciaH Sat, Jul 17, 1999 (13:41) #28
(packing...)Do I get to go, too? (...stuffing...cramming...jumping on suitcase to make it close...)
~KitchenManager Sat, Jul 17, 1999 (15:26) #29
