What is your homepage address? Tell us about yourself and how you discovered us. What are your interests or hobbies. What will we find on your homepage?

Hi! My name's Howell Parry, and I live in Manchester, UK. I discovered The Spring whilst searching for Movies Discussion on Yahoo: Computers and Internet: Communications and Networking: Bulletin Boards Spring, The - conversational watering hole. Discussions of Austin, politics, books, music, movies, tv, radio, sports, culture, Jane Austen and other classics. My hobbies include going to the movies, acting, travelling, learning foreign languages, learning martial arts and music (listening to, and going to concerts). At the moment, my main hobby / interest seems to be movie-making. I'm currently making a "no-budget" scifi B-movie with some friends using a camcorder. It's been great fun, and we've even got a "Foiled" web page, that tells you where we're up to with it: http://www.hideaway.demon.co.uk/foiled.html For more information about me, my hobbies, and *LOTS* of related links see my homepage: http://www.hideaway.demon.co.uk/people/howell/html Hope to hear from some of you soon...... Howell

Should we list you on our links page? Welcome!
~folkartist Tue, Feb 18, 1997 (17:11) #4
Hi! I am a folkartist as you can see by the name I chose to identify myself. I don't have a homepage because I don't know how to make one. I'm that new to the internet and got started doing a little research. I don't know how I found the Spring, but it is a neat place to be because I see a lot of others here and everyone seems to be sharing a lot of different ideas. I would like to direct a question to Terry. I have an address given to me somewhere in the process of signing on the spring and I don't now how to use it to email you. I get messages that I don't understand. And, I would like to know how to set up a homepage and whether I can do it here on the Spring?

Hi,I am an all around athlete, I love soccer and rowing,I found this page by typing in sring.com..Why? I was fooling around thinking of words to use, and then after each word I would type .com! I have a question that anybody can answer. My server or whatever dosn't support frames, I want them but I don't know how. Please tell me how I can get them...
~terry Sat, Mar 1, 1997 (13:51) #6
Upgrade to a frames capable browser like Netscape 3.0 or 4.0 or MS Explorer 3.1. You can do this from Netscapes or Microsofts sites or from http://www.stroud.com in the browsers section.

~bubbles Sun, Nov 9, 1997 (00:25) #10
My page is http://www.well.com/user/bubbles/ and it has some poetry, some prose, some computer-geek stuff, my resume, and so on. I'm currently in Silicon Valley, but formerly of Los Angeles. I tend to choose "bubbles" as an ID on various systems because it's my circle name in the Radical Fairies and in Paganism in general. And I actually do go around blowing soap bubbles. Have you ever blown bubbles on a street corner and watched the reactions of people in passing cars?
~terry Sun, Nov 9, 1997 (02:01) #11
We took some soap bubbles to the last movie we went to and blew quite a few.

Well just in case jb is still looking out for some cool webdesigning programmed, I guess the best, to design for an absolute novice would be the Page editor that comes with Netscape (I don't know about IE) My favorite webdesigning programme by far is called Cyber Studio by a company called Golive, the have a 30 day trial version on their webpage and if you just want to set up a simple webpage 30 days should be enough. This golive is Mac only, just in case you are using a PC ;-) It is absolutely great, you can log into your server (where you have you html and picture files floating around ) and just doubleclick a file you want to change and it automatically get's downloaded, when you 've made the changes you can then just save the file and it gets automatically ftp'd to the server and automatically replaces the old file it's awesome, If you have a mac have a look at it. Anybody out there got any interest in Java? I just started, but there is so much out there... Well my page on the spring doesn't work (I don't know why) but Terry is looking into it, but if you would like to have a look at my webpage check it out at www.hardlink.com/~nike Criticism is welcome bye Nike
~KitchenManager Wed, Jan 21, 1998 (14:18) #13
Your pages here worked for me just seconds ago... Anyway, a working skeleton is up for mine (helps to us IE, sorry, trying to get all the free Microsoft stuff I can...) at http://www.spring.com/~spew And I think an interest in Java is a necessity these days...
~mikeg Sun, Jan 25, 1998 (12:14) #14
My university teaches Java to all undergraduate computer scientists and AI people now.
~KitchenManager Sun, Jan 25, 1998 (16:32) #15
Mike, you're back!
~mikeg Tue, Jan 27, 1998 (13:48) #16
Indeed I am :)) With the winter vacation over, and a nice shiny new computer installed and running, I shall be around much more!
~LaughingSky Sun, Feb 22, 1998 (20:44) #17
Hi, all! Interests, hobbies...homepage? Ok...not MUCH thought to that! :) I am a bass guitarist, so, I love music; I'm a sketch artist, and a nurse, who is presently taking a well-deserved break! I am also interested in archaeology, paleontology, and astronomy. I have a big website, called, "The Hippie's Old But Far-Out Loft", and it's at: http://members.tripod.com/~mercer4peace/index.html My site promotes World Peace and Tolerance of all beings! I feel that tolerance is the first step toward world peace.
~KitchenManager Mon, Feb 23, 1998 (00:50) #18
Looked around in the porch conference lately?... (just kidding, there is somewhat of a "thrash" (as Terry put it) going on in there right now...) Glad to see ya, and welcome!
~terry Mon, Feb 23, 1998 (13:09) #19
You're welcome to start a topic here just for your home page and you can link directly to it from your home page. This gives everyone a chance to have at least one purely personal topic do whatever they care to do with.
~Wolf Mon, Feb 23, 1998 (20:23) #20
dunno, personal stuff seems to be everybody's business nowadays. well, free advertising here at least *grin* anyway, my site isn't very interesting, but you guys are more than welcome to visit so here's the site (and forgive me for being internet challenged but don't know how to make a link) http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/7059
~Wolf Mon, Feb 23, 1998 (20:24) #21
COOL, it did it for me *yippee*
~terry Tue, Feb 24, 1998 (00:21) #22
Got there, signed the guestbook. Good stuff, wolf!
~KitchenManager Tue, Feb 24, 1998 (13:21) #23

~mikeg Tue, Feb 24, 1998 (21:16) #26
Gonna open a topic for my homepage, now....drop by.
~terry Wed, Feb 25, 1998 (00:12) #27
Will do!
~LaughingSky Mon, Mar 2, 1998 (02:48) #28
Hey, Wer - if you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn???Hmmmmm... :)
~Wolf Mon, Mar 2, 1998 (21:10) #29
*giggle* k, i need some help (computer help that is).....installed MSN for their monthlong free trial AND it views other websites in the same colors as before, BUT mine will only give me the colors automatically selected and not the colors i picked and put in the codes. what's up with that??
~Wolf Mon, Mar 2, 1998 (21:11) #30
la la lalala lalala-cough, choke, gasp
~terry Mon, Mar 2, 1998 (23:35) #31
Do you need cpr?
~KitchenManager Tue, Mar 3, 1998 (01:29) #32
It could be some weird style sheet thang... I think that color would be...indigo, LaughingSky, or quite possibly, puce! Nope, Terry, just a smurfy good slap on the old smurf! (I hate cpr)
~LaughingSky Tue, Mar 3, 1998 (18:31) #33
True. I think that indigo just might be the correct answer...then, we really can't know for sure...(grin)..by the way - did we actually LOSE Terry on this one?~~*
~Wolf Tue, Mar 3, 1998 (18:44) #34
dunno if you lost him, but you lost me *grin* wer, did see a style sheet somewhere, but dunno what it's for.......
~KitchenManager Tue, Mar 3, 1998 (23:37) #35
It over-rides some layout options on web pages, taking your likes into account instead of the designer's...
~LaughingSky Sat, Mar 7, 1998 (20:29) #36
That is true. I prefer indigo over the usual webpage shade of blue; don't you agree, Wer? heeeeee....!!!~~*
~KitchenManager Sun, Mar 8, 1998 (09:38) #37
Why, yes, LaughingSky, I believe I do...
~LaughingSky Sun, Mar 8, 1998 (22:10) #38
This is the Homepage Conference...right? :)
~Wolf Sun, Mar 8, 1998 (22:40) #39
think so! do you have one?
~Wolf Mon, Mar 9, 1998 (22:58) #40
k, i figured out what i needed to do to view my page the way i created it....had to start over....seems it didn't like the basic editor and prefers the advanced. so had to redo my front page and the rest will be done as i get to it, but thanks anyway!!
~KitchenManager Wed, Mar 11, 1998 (00:37) #41
okay
~LaughingSky Thu, Mar 12, 1998 (10:52) #42

~fabmktbabe Thu, Jul 9, 1998 (23:40) #46
For decidedly different stock market commentary, check out the fabulous market babe at http://www.fabmktbabe.com
~KitchenManager Fri, Jul 10, 1998 (00:35) #47
you do know, don't you, that there is a place on here for random spam? it's in the porch conference, and the topic is something along the lines of Shameless Promotion...
~terry Fri, Jul 10, 1998 (07:45) #48
There's also a stock conference, dpo, which I see the babe found. She's welcome to romp around there.
~KitchenManager Wed, Feb 17, 1999 (19:01) #49
for an example of a great homepage (imho), see http://www.io.com/~sjohn/blue.htm
~zx6rider Wed, Oct 6, 2004 (10:18) #50
Well... do I assume that noone has created any homepages in the last 5 yrs or have I wandered into the twilight zone? Being directionally impaired, that would be typical for me. Anyway, in case anyone is reading this, after a long absence from the Spring, I'm back. And, in that absence I learned a little about making a website. I used Frontpage to build mine. You can view it at http://www.spazzdog.com There are still a couple of things not working properly... I'm trying to figure it out (the guestbook) and the site is in a state of growth but it's out there. I'm covering sports (of course) with specificity in cycling, running and triathlon (for my multi-tasking friends). Check it out and let me know what you think.
~wolf Mon, Aug 15, 2005 (18:53) #51
went sniffing around your site and so far so good! oh, and the guestbook worked. which reminds me, i've got to get to work on mine! *laugh*
