Steve Winwood, of Traffic fame, is one of my favorite musicians. Why has it taken this long to create this topic? Anyway, let's talk about Steve Winwood and the bands that he has been connected with over the years.

The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is, hands down, my favorite Winwood Traffic album. Anyone heard it?

No.......(you asked!)

Well, I guess that's possible that someone hadn't heard it yet. But hard to imagine, since it's my favorite album of all time.

Guess I'm more familiar with his 80's stuff, like Higher Love. (Did, however, know that he was in Traffic)

ashamed to admit i've never heard it... know Traffic, John Barleycorn, and Mr. Fantasy, but not familiar with The Low Spark... according to the catologue, it was released circa '71, so it must've been previously unreleased material (?), because i thought both mason and stevie had left by then to do other things... stevie, of course, recorded with clapton and ginger baker (blind faith, Blind Faith), and produced a couple of his most beautiful vocals, i thought, in "presence of the lord", and "can't find my way home"... what songs are on The Low Spark...?

What is Stevie doin' here lately?
~pmnh Tue, Jan 13, 1998 (22:10) #7
dunno what that stevie is doing... but saw stevie nicks on letterman last night... and she was awesome, with lindsey on accoustic guitar, and mick on bongos... and god, is she still beautiful...

tell me about it, was just agog when they were on VH1. There still is a connection between them two. Christy looked worn out. But those guys are still good!

how very sexist of you... (i thought she looked wonderful... the definition of grace fluide, as always...)
~Wolf Tue, Jan 13, 1998 (22:20) #10
not sexist at all, she just looked tired, not bad
~pmnh Tue, Jan 13, 1998 (22:24) #11
other than natalie, her's is the sexiest voice/persona i've heard... joni'd be third (in a very tight race)...

I agree (and you're talkin' Stevie, right?) For some reason, can't think of male voices that I like, well John Malcovich *wink*

The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys (Winwood/Capaldi) If you see something that looks like a star And it's shooting up out of the ground And your head is spinning from a loud guitar And you just can't escape from the sound Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you We were children once, playing with toys And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of The low spark of high-heeled boys The percentage you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was The low spark of high-heeled boys If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance? Or something similar as this? Don't worry too much It'll happen to you as sure as your sorrows are joys And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound of The low spark of high-heeled boys If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return Would you do the same for me as I would for you? Or take me for a ride, and strip me of everything including my pride But spirit is something that no one destroys And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound The low spark of high-heeled boys

know "rock and roll stew", of course (excellent song), but not familiar with the rest... "the low spark of high- heeled boys" sounds like a fascinating tune (they should bottle that stuff- it could have industrial applications)... i'll look for it next time i'm at waterloo... since mason was gone, this must've been stevie's swan song? or, since he obviously returned to the band after the blind faith experiment, did he then stick to the end? never thought about that, really (always just assumed the one meant the end of the other), but with stevie gone, who in the hell COULD'VE sung?
~terry Wed, Jan 14, 1998 (22:57) #16
That's the one song that doesn't stick out in my mind. I'll have to listen to it again.
