Wish I could say mine was a noble one with deep lyrics and beautiful tune. But my ultimate current favourite is defenitely Chumbawamba's Tubthumping.
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (04:53) #1
Me gonna hijack this topic slightly, if that's OK. Lyrics to my favourite song coming up: I have been unfaithful I have been unworthy I have been unrighteous And I have been unmerciful. I have been uncreachable I have been unteachable I have been unweary And I have been undesirable. And sometimes, I have been unwise, I've been undone by what I'm unsure of But because of You, and all that you went through, I know that i have never been unloved. I have been unbroken I have been unmended I have been uneasy And I have been unapproachable. I've been unemotional I've been unexceptional I've been undecided And I've been unqualified. Unaware - I have been unfair I've been unfit for blessings from above But even I can see The sacrifice You made for me To show that i have never been unloved. It's because of you, and all that you went through I know that I have never been unloved. (Michael W. Smith - "Never been Unloved")

That's totally beautiful. Is the tune nice too? And it's a good idea for hijacking, because stupid me created the topic BEFORE seeing that it existed already.
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (08:17) #3
yeah, the tune's really nice, too :) i sat down and learnt it yesterday, but i haven't got it perfect yet. it's in my least favourite key, which makes it a bugger to play :)
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:27) #4
Which key?
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:29) #5
E major
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:34) #6
That IS a bugger on the guitar, and one of the reasons why I'll never be good, because you often use a B major chord while playing in E major, and my hands are just too small to be able to get it clear. Oh well. Hey, Mike, we're on at the same time!
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:39) #7
yup! b-major is a pain at the moment with my weak finger. and also on my guitar, which doesn't like those shaped chords particularly. not sure why. it's got a bit of an attitude problem :)
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:42) #8
The guitar is probably just playing hard to get. Which finger was broken?
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:43) #9
Ha, if it was the forefinger, then ANY chord will be painful, except for E minor! You'll have to play rap from now on!!!
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:44) #10
left hand, littlest one
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:48) #11
DAMN!!! That must have hurt like hell!! You poor thing. Won't it be very hard to get it back into shape again? I mean little fingers aren't even strong to start off with.
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:50) #12
:-) i'm exercising it lots, and it's improving. gonna go back to the hand surgeon in a couple of weeks or so.
~riette Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (12:56) #13
But there won't be any permanent damage, will there?
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (15:49) #14
hopefully not, but one can never tell, i guess. i'll pay to have surgery, if necessary.
~riette Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (01:01) #15
Mike, sorry I just left like that last night - I had to go smack some little buttocks for hitting one another on the head with Duplo elephants, and that upset me, so I didn't come back. But it was rude of me to just left like that. I'm sorry.
~riette Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (01:02) #16
LEAVE like that. DAMN! I've got square eyes this morning!
~mikeg Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (08:53) #17
:-)) No worries. Did they enjoy the spanking? I would...;-)
~riette Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (11:03) #18
ha-ha! That's good to know - at least SOMEBODY would! But no, they didn't, and there were lots of tears to dry afterwards, including my own.
~autumn Fri, Sep 11, 1998 (11:59) #19
All time favorites include "What I like about you" and "Love Shack" for their dance-ability; "5 String Serenade" by Mazzy Star and anything by Tom Waits for poignancy; and a slew of other songs that make my heart beat faster and make me light up a cigarette when they come on the radio. (so many songs, so little time...)
~TIM Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (09:57) #20
My favorite song is, "Smoke on the Water", by Deep Purple, Followed closely by, "Black Dog", by Led Zepplein.
~autumn Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (15:55) #21
Oh geez, it's like living at home with my older brother again. Please don't say "Free Bird" by Lynrd Skynrd next.
~TIM Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (16:52) #22
I liked "Free Bird", but it was not one of my favorites. I listened to Lynrd Skynrd off and on. I was going to name "Ride My Sesaw", by the Moody Blues as my next favorite. This is more by association than by the music. I have a lot of happy memories associated with that song.
~riette Wed, Nov 18, 1998 (02:57) #23
Who ARE these people? Do the names 'Whigfield' or 'Funky Bob' not mean anything around here?
~TIM Wed, Nov 18, 1998 (04:31) #24
I have never heard of Whigfield or Funky Bob. bring some when you come over.
~pmnh Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (02:56) #25
i love skynnrd but 'free bird' has to be the (second) most overplayed overblown tune in history... much prefer 'simple man', 'tuesday's gone', 'call me the breeze', 'needle and the spoon', et al... (and do you really prefer 'smoke on the water' to 'highway star'?) how bout david bowie ('young americans' and (esp.) 'sufragette city')?
~TIM Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (04:07) #26
I like everything I've heard by david bowie. "suffragette city" and "fame" are my two favorites by bowie. YEA to Smoke On The Water. lynnrd skynnrd is ok, i like it, but I'm not a real fan,
~osceola Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (12:05) #27
I still have all my old Skynrd albums from high school.
~TIM Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (12:57) #28
All these young types!!! Skynnrd was popular when I was in college
~autumn Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (21:53) #29
Aha!! I knew there were closet Skynyrd fans around here! I adore David Bowie, especially "Changes", "Rebel, Rebel" and "Diamond Dogs." Riette, I have never heard of those artists either.
~TIM Fri, Nov 20, 1998 (01:44) #30
I also like music by the following: bare naked ladies, offspring, marilyn manson nine inch nails and several others.
~autumn Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (22:00) #31
I like BNL too. That Marilyn Manson is too much--over the top!
~TIM Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (22:03) #32
Have you heard the new one by offspring?
~autumn Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (22:19) #33
Never heard of them.
~TIM Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (22:26) #34
O K now I know for sure that you don't live in Austin!
~autumn Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (22:55) #35
Never been to Texas!! I live 1 hour from Baltimore & Philadelphia, and 1 1/2 hours from DC in a rural area of Maryland.
~TIM Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (23:06) #36
Ever been to the Eastern Shore? That is my favorite part of maryland.
~autumn Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (23:08) #37
Have I ever been to the Eastern Shore?! You ever seen an oil rig, Tex? :-) What is your least favorite part?
~TIM Sun, Nov 22, 1998 (23:11) #38
Most of the oil rigs I've seen were in Oklahoma, where I prospected for oil right after getting out of the army.
~riette Tue, Nov 24, 1998 (08:55) #39
Is there any job you HAVEN'T done, roaming Tim?
~terry Tue, Nov 24, 1998 (09:18) #40
He hasn't been a roughneck, kind of surprising.
~TIM Tue, Nov 24, 1998 (09:59) #41
Let's see Riette. I've never been a doctor, lawyer, bricklayer, realtor, tv repairman, lineman, that is about all I can think of, including terry's comment. But given the right circumstances, I can learn.
~riette Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (03:20) #42
The best way to learn is play....doctor etc...
~TIM Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (13:06) #43
MMMM.... Sounds interesting, Riette, are you offering your skills?
~TIM Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (13:08) #44
I've got the basic equipment, Riette, Is there anything I should buy besides a little nitrous?
~riette Thu, Nov 26, 1998 (12:43) #45
I daresay any guy has the basic equipment; it's whether they know how to use it or not that makes the difference. Nothing extra required.
~TIM Thu, Nov 26, 1998 (18:04) #46
Very true, Riette, Very true. Extra's however, make things more fun sometimes.
~riette Sat, Nov 28, 1998 (01:53) #47
Oh yeah? Name a few!
~TIM Sat, Nov 28, 1998 (02:01) #48
Nitrous oxide, Oxygen, Body oil, whipped cream, I'm sure that you get the picture, Riette.
~riette Sat, Nov 28, 1998 (16:06) #49
ha-ha!! slut sauce too??? (could not resist!!!)
~TIM Sat, Nov 28, 1998 (19:26) #50
I see, Riette. you definitely get the picture.
~riette Mon, Nov 30, 1998 (02:41) #51
Artists do that.
~TIM Mon, Nov 30, 1998 (02:53) #52
One would hope so, Riette, I am not so sure about Picasso though
~riette Tue, Dec 1, 1998 (02:15) #53
Me neither! I always think of Picasso as the Baywatch Parody Man.
~TIM Tue, Dec 1, 1998 (02:41) #54
Ok Riette, That one I'm going to need an explanation of.
~riette Wed, Dec 2, 1998 (01:58) #55
Well, he always makes the girls big boobed and long-haired, and half naked - like in Baywatch. Right? Except, the way he paints them can be so way way way strange, it looks like he must be making fun. Silly logic, yes?
~TIM Wed, Dec 2, 1998 (02:14) #56
NO Riette, when you explain it that way It makes sense.
