not really. better to get illustrator for that. illustrator+photoshop is the most fierce combination on the planet, and is what i aspire to.
~KitchenManager Fri, Jul 10, 1998 (23:58) #102
a fully functioning one that wasn't shareware or a demo would be fine by me...
~mikeg Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (00:02) #103
serious money
~wolf Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (00:16) #104
i've got a vector program (shareware) but haven't figured it out yet.
~riette Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (01:43) #105
I find that with advanced programmes like photoshop, everything is just too 'there' for my taste. I don't really feel particularly creative around those programmes. They have come up with just about any idea already, so then I just don't bother - I just paste together some of their images and fonts. I also prefer the more nave look, and an African feel, but that's only because that's the style I paint in. (Not very versatile, huh?!) Alot of black, and simple, but BRIGHT colours, and loads of them. So I don't think I'll inflict a Spring logo suggestion on you, Mike. But I'll check out the one you recommended anyway, Terry - might suit me better.
~mikeg Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (19:08) #106
i've shrunk the second logo, to see what it looks like in a small version
~wolf Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (19:43) #107
now i love that. can you make the background transparent?
~mikeg Sat, Jul 11, 1998 (20:23) #108
not easily because of the anti-aliasing around the spring.net text. however, it's a photoshop file, which means that i can change the background colour to whatever i like, without harming the rest of the image, and then save a new copy out. not ideal, but then transparent GIFs are pretty crappy anyway.
~riette Sun, Jul 12, 1998 (01:46) #109
Do that, and perhaps change the porche's colour to a nice pink colour or something to make it stand out better. But it's a nice logo.
~KitchenManager Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (13:54) #110
or something along the lines of...
~KitchenManager Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (13:56) #111
ack...the green doesn't work on the chalk...it's okay, though as you gets the idea...for a different version on a blue background, go look at http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/browse/news/all/new
~mikeg Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (15:42) #112
yup, nice. might be better if you don't make it a transparent GIF, though. that way, you can have whichever background colour is necessary, and anti-alias all of the text etc. to that background, which would make it look even better.
~KitchenManager Sat, Jul 18, 1998 (16:02) #113
actually, it looks better against a background that looks like pool water...
~riette Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (01:09) #114
REALLY cool, Wer. The sun thing is a great idea - it has alot of oomf.
~KitchenManager Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (09:21) #115
or maybe...
~mikeg Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (09:32) #116
v. nice. need to anti-alias the text, then it'd be perfect.
~mikeg Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (09:33) #117
( hi wer ) :)
~KitchenManager Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (09:34) #118
good morning...I'll have to anti-alias by hand one pixel at a time... might take me a bit...
~mikeg Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (09:36) #119
what is the name of the font? if you send me the necessary files, i can install the font and then anti-alias it in photoshop.
~KitchenManager Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (10:18) #120
Mexicali...I'll install it on here somewhere so's you can download it at leisure...
~riette Sun, Jul 19, 1998 (11:14) #121
Loverly!
~KitchenManager Mon, Jul 27, 1998 (22:30) #122

FEEL FREE TO PROTEST PEOPLE!!!!
~terry Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (09:02) #124
I love it, it's so jungly, but I think we need a little water in it too.
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (09:09) #125
I've been protesting people for years...
~riette Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (10:58) #126
And what would your protest be today, muffin? Also missing the water? Terry, I can't put water in this one - it simply doesn't work. Once Wer has posted the colour versions, I think you'll see why. In the first I did a blue background to suggest water, but that just pushed it that little bit too far. There was no subtlety or imagination left, and therefore it seemed kitchy and blunt. The colours started clashing, because it did not have a darker background to back it up. I don't want to split up the background into two or more colours either, because, again, the colour will clash. The second version I did with slightly different colours, and a black background, and I thought the abundance in flora rather suggested the water and fertility, and the dark background just seemed to help all the colours fall into place better. And so i'm not putting in water - it would spoil this particular design. One could perhaps do the lettering and the little banner in blues, but I actually wanted it to flow from the branches of the tree. ANyway, I would do no more to suggest water han that. But that is merely my opinion, and not the ultimate judgement. If you can't cope with it like this, then that's that- there is absolutely no reason why you HAVE to take it, because there have been plenty other really GOOD suggestions here; it is no more than a suggestion, and I'm sorry I haven't more time to devote to this right now - perhaps when I come back from England, I'll try something different with water, and we can see how that goes. But more than that I simply can't manage right now too much other work to do with the exhibition coming up after the summer holidays.
~terry Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #127
That's cool Riette. It's a gorgeous drawing and, if you have time when you get back from Merry Old England, perhaps you could please us with a watery image. When do you actually depart?
~autumn Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #128
Very nice, Riette! How long did that sketch take you??
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #129
colour version number one...
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #130
hmmm... let's try that again...
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #131
oh, good, in that case, colour version 2 is
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #132
ack...
~riette Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #133
I'm leaving for England tonight, but I'll do something with water as soon as I get back, okay, Terry? I really don't know how long it took, Autumn - twenty minutes, I guess. I don't really count.
~KitchenManager Tue, Jul 28, 1998 (12:44) #134
have a safe trip and see you when you get back... do you mind if I give colouring it a whirl?
~riette Wed, Jul 29, 1998 (05:23) #135
Sure, Wer, spank-it-roll-it-kiss-it-colour-it-pin-it-blow-it! Thanks - I'll miss you all.
~terry Wed, Jul 29, 1998 (08:52) #136
I love it Riette! Have a wonderful trip. I'll miss you!
~riette Wed, Aug 5, 1998 (11:45) #137

~riette Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (01:45) #142

~wolf Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (09:31) #143

~KitchenManager Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (11:59) #145
and a small logo for buttons and links back to here, how about
~wolf Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:06) #146
i likes that. who did the brushwork for the text?
~KitchenManager Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:08) #147
Paint Shop Pro... it's a font I gots installed on my computer...cool, huh?
~wolf Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:11) #148
yeah! i've gone out to free font sites but can't get them to download. any clues?
~KitchenManager Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:14) #149
nope...I'm thinking about putting that one up on here to download...we'll see if'n you can download that one once I get it up...
~wolf Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:17) #150
thanks! oh, while i'm thinking about it, how does one go about aligning pics? let me explain. ok, i've got two pics, two different sizes but i want to keep them that way. i would like to be able to center the small one in relation to the larger one and have them next to each other. how do i put that in code?
~KitchenManager Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (17:22) #151
I think, in the img tag use valign="center" for each image... otherwise, you can do it with tables...
~wolf Sat, Sep 5, 1998 (18:46) #152
ok, i'll try the valign thing, not good with tables yet. thanks so much! *hugs*
~terry Sun, Sep 6, 1998 (00:29) #153
Everything's good. And here's a hug for you wolfie: What we need is something awesomely sensual, insanely great. Something that reaches out and electrifies you. Riette has it in her. I see the seed of greatness.
~riette Sun, Sep 6, 1998 (02:24) #154
Love that little button thing, Wer!! Terry, careful. Feeling pain reading that - must be the ego growing. But thank you.
