I got a user directory there, too. Thanks anyhow! Is there a convention for a shared directory to put stuff in?
~MarciaH Sat, Sep 18, 1999 (16:23) #102
It needs to be in the public directory of your space in order to be seen by the web. I do not know of any shared directory. My graphics are on my little space assigned to me when I became host of Geo.
~terry Mon, Sep 20, 1999 (10:54) #103
If you need a shared directory here, I'll give you an account on access. Otherwise you can refernce graphics from any place on the web in your tags. Just use the img src tagv which I explained the other day.
~aschuth Mon, Sep 20, 1999 (13:22) #104
OK + thanks! I got a directory there, somewhere...
~infospryte Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:18) #105
Does anyone think wer will care if I start hosting food and restaurants?
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:26) #106
I think he would welcome the help! Sorry I forgot about Alexander's being host of ViricianCuria...
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:28) #107
Then, perhaps I could get some help in Geo???
~infospryte Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:29) #108
Then, cfadm, if you will work your magic.
~infospryte Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:31) #109
How about if I promise to post info in Geo as I find it?
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:32) #110
Excellent! Thanks ...*happy smile*
~cfadm Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:41) #111
*poof* You're a host now, infospryte.
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:46) #112
(*eyes wide with amazement*...that's how it's done?!)
~aschuth Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:15) #113
Yep, but works only when ole Conf Admin wears that pointy hat.
~aschuth Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:17) #114
If he doesn't, he'll wave that magic wand and *poof*, you're a fluffy bunny.
~MarciaH Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:19) #115
(checking...nope! Not yet!)
~MarciaH Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:21) #116
Cfadm is especially fetching in that pointy hat...wonder from whence it came...or does it come with the job description? Probably!
~aschuth Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:38) #117
If he doesn't, he'll wave that magic wand and *poof*, you're a fluffy bunny.
~aschuth Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:39) #118
Which, of course, was quite an improvement for me here!
~MarciaH Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (14:57) #119
Really? I never pictured you as a fluffy bunny. March Hare, on occasion, as we all are, but not bunny (except inside where your heart is!)
~aschuth Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (15:15) #120
=:=}
~MarciaH Fri, Oct 1, 1999 (16:09) #121
*lol* cute!
~riette Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (02:06) #122
GREAT that you're the new kitchen man around here, Infospryte!! Alexander, you've got a fluffy bunny in your heart? How'd it get there??? Didya swallow it?
~aschuth Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (14:18) #123
Oh, you never noticed, huh? I *AM* a fluffy bunny with long, furry ears!
~MarciaH Thu, Feb 17, 2000 (23:01) #124
Oooh...How adorable. Do you like to be petted or do you bite? This host would like to link Geo 27 to ParaSpring. Please! If I am to do it, will need to email me to remind me the link command. Thanks. Oh, and I will need a telnet account.
~sprin5 Fri, Feb 18, 2000 (07:16) #125
OK will do!
~MarciaH Fri, Feb 18, 2000 (13:26) #126
Oh, Thanks you SO very much. You have just made two ladies very happy *hugs* *smile* *sigh*
~MarciaH Fri, Feb 18, 2000 (13:32) #127
I just checked and we are linked. Thanks is not engough, but it must suffice. We are most grateful...and then some...!
~MarciaH Fri, Feb 18, 2000 (23:23) #128
That (Geomagnetics) has turned out to be a very active topic. It is about as close to the fringe as I get in Geo, but it is fascinating. Anyone care to join me?
~MarciaH Fri, Feb 18, 2000 (23:28) #129
New shuttle pictures of Hawaii finally downloaded. Check Cartography.
~terry Tue, Feb 22, 2000 (09:35) #130
What's geomagnetics?
~MarciaH Tue, Feb 22, 2000 (14:41) #131
Invisible magnetic lines on the earth (I should post the NASA shot of that) which direct everything from a compass when you hike to birds when they migrate. I needed a title which went with the rest in the conference so I used geomagnetics. Dowsers use it to discover water...sacred geometry and Feng Shui use it, as well. Pop in and take a look! The Archaeology is going great too - and I have a really great gal pal from Boston logged in and posting. She's the one who works for Lucent Technologies... Geo is a happening place. Y'all come!
~MarciaH Tue, Mar 21, 2000 (19:58) #132
Guess no one did. I will make the request for a CRAFTS conference with Wolf and me as hosts, please?! And, Please link Collecting 59 to the Sports conference. I hate the feeling that no one is here running the joint but those of us creeping around with limited access and even more limited knowledge. Makes me feel insecure...*sigh*
~MarciaH Tue, Mar 21, 2000 (20:04) #133
Looks like I explained Terry's question on Geomagentism everywhere but where he asked the question. I guess I should not post it again lest I clog the arteries of the limited bandwidth and have Terry out on the Freeway begging for more...
~sprin5 Wed, Mar 22, 2000 (05:38) #134
Yep, I've been pretty busy on the homefront. I tried calling you on http://www.dialpad.com last night but your phone just rang and rang. This is one cool program, if I could get it to work we could all communicate with each other by phone.
~MarciaH Wed, Mar 22, 2000 (10:57) #135
Terry...I know you (or someone called and called and called some more but our readout said "unknown Number" so I figured it was someone from the Mainland. But, after persistent saying "hello" all I could hear was empty air on an open circuit. If that happens again I will shout louder and hope I can hear you! I am delighted that you got through to me but sad that I thought you were just some weirdo getting jollies listening to my voice. Now I know differently...
~MarciaH Wed, Mar 22, 2000 (12:48) #136
OK...I have signed up and logged into Dialpad. Do you need to know my user name and can I use the same phone line while I am connected to the internet on it? If so, I have to give you another number. Will post them in Inner conference.
~MarciaH Wed, Mar 22, 2000 (12:48) #137
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (04:44) #138
For some reason, my calls are connecting but I'm not hearing anyone at the other end. I'll try it on a different computer tomorrow.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (11:45) #139
Terry, we need to coordinate what time you call. Last evening we were out for dinner and when we got back around 8pm you had called manytimes (We leave the answering machine on when we are away.) By the time it occurred to me it might be you calling, I sat in the office waiting from 8:30-9:30pm (that is12:30-1:20AM your time) but it was just after your last attempt, I am afraid. I will be here all day as far as I know. Just remember we are 4 hours behind you. As I post this it is 7:45am Hawaiian Standard time. Also, calling me after about 10PM your time is gonna cause trouble here until we get this figured out.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:04) #140
Terry! I can hear you loud and clear!!!
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:06) #141
Still hearing you like you were next door...on the phone, of course!
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:07) #142
But I can't hear you! I'll try again.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:08) #143
You are so loud that I am holding the phone away from my ear and I have a strong voice so you should have heard me.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:08) #144
Wonder what is wrong...
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:12) #145
Gotta get rid of the proxy server somehow
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:12) #146
Wenphone will not work with one, either...
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:14) #147
That's webphone, of course...! You are so clear and right in the room with your end. It is frustrating that I am not also in your room at that end.
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:14) #148
Hmm, I'm not really using a proxy server, I'm using Microsoft ICS. I wonder if there's a trick to get it to work? I'll try again with another computer.
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:15) #149
Try calling me with dialpad and see if it works that way.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:16) #150
Ok going to boot it and test it out - what number are you using today?
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:18) #151
That was just a big metallic howl you sent....No voice.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:24) #152
Terry...Use me as a test....I wish it would work as much as you do!!!! I can still hear you tantalizingly clearly and wish you could do the same with me...*sigh*
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:25) #153
You arwe NOT bothering me with all of these phone calls. It would be so great if we could get it to work!!! I need to know the number to call you to try from this end....
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:34) #154
I'm think I've fixed it. Here goes again.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:37) #155
I tried calling you using 512 302 4000 and it rang but was not answered. Are you there or at another number? I am still hearing you very well!
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:39) #156
Keep trying - I REALLY want you to hear me on this end!!!
~sprin5 Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:41) #157
I'm getting warmer, I downloaded an ICS configuration utility and this may make it work.
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 23, 2000 (15:42) #158
Does Dialup have a tech staff to help figure out why I can hear you but you cannot hear me???
~sprin5 Fri, Mar 24, 2000 (00:18) #159
Nope but I figured it out, as you know. They have a great faq and I found out I needed a little third party ICS configuration tool to make it work. Now, to figure out how to cool down the echo . . .
~MarciaH Fri, Mar 24, 2000 (10:57) #160
What they call Satellite echo over here is a little distracting and almost as loud as you were. Let me know how you did it when you find out. Still, it was so exciting to talk to someone live and in Texas. I was flying all day after we succeeded in making the-way contact. YeeHAW! (I learned that from the mean TCU fans last weekend!)
~MarciaH Sat, Mar 25, 2000 (13:34) #161
Did someone with dialup call me at 5:45 am today? House male is most upset. I think it was someone else because our caller ID just said Unknown Name Unknown Number...whereas before at least I got the number so I could tell it was from Texas... We are 4 hours EARLIER than Texas! When the call was made here at 5:45AM it was 9:54AM in Austin.
~wolf Sun, Apr 30, 2000 (20:48) #162
in case no one saw one of my posts awhile back, i'd like to be master gardener in our garden conference. thanks!
~wolf Sun, Apr 30, 2000 (20:49) #163
oh yeah, and marcia and i would love to host a crafts conference.
~MarciaH Mon, May 1, 2000 (00:42) #164
and please add me to the hostly list on History
~MarciaH Tue, May 2, 2000 (21:47) #165
This host needs major help. When spring crashed it took my rc file with it. I, with Wolf's help, put the rc file back on and the Visto banner is ok, but my buttons do not show up but my amazon.com does not and I have all default stuff (which is fine but not right ...)
~MarciaH Tue, May 2, 2000 (21:52) #166
and why is my wallpaper yellow??? *sigh* This mess is in GEO, btw, for those who do not go there....
~MarciaH Tue, May 2, 2000 (22:04) #167
okay...promise not to touch it in case you are working on it...but I did get the hr bars back. Thanks!
~MarciaH Tue, May 2, 2000 (23:51) #168
Thank you humbly and profoundly for helping me. I worked and worked for 4 solid hours on it and the rc file is complete and functioning. No inhouse applause, of course, but that is they way it always is. I have copied it to file so I shall not have to do this again the hard way...and if I had not had such a splendid and patient teacher in the first place, I would never have been able to do it. *deep bow* in recognition of his wisdom, and *Hugs* of appreciation.
~sprin5 Wed, May 3, 2000 (03:58) #169
The Spring didn't crash, thre's one file called /tmp that occasionally fills up and it doesn't allow anything to be written to the disk. And I forgot to bring my cell phone in from the car last night, so your calls were ringing in an empty van. I apologize for not responding sooner. As soon as I got your message about 10:45 pm last night I knew it was that /tmp file.
~MarciaH Wed, May 3, 2000 (11:52) #170
If anyone can figure out how freezing the spring deleted my entire rc file, I would certainly appreciate knowing so I can prevent it happening again. Again, thank you to the magician who restored my conference to its glory!
~MarciaH Wed, May 3, 2000 (12:16) #171
(At the time it happened, I was just changing hex numbers for font color and was not changing anything in the structure of the commands. Could hitting the "change this file" at the moment of Spring's freeze-up have been the cause? Whatever it was, I now keep a copy printed out and on file so I can copy and paste it back to order as quickly as Spring unfreezes, shold it happen again! Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
~MarciaH Wed, May 3, 2000 (14:47) #172
Oooh! Check it out! Geo's new wallpaper is installed (I hope cfadm likes it too - more of a ballroom floor and less of a pastry board - and the infernal frames are all gone from my buttons. Now, whatever shall I do with myself?! Actually, I'd like a nice indigo or deep royal purple to by my xlink but I don't seem able to find one. Still looking! Let me know what you think of Geo now, if you please...!
~sprin5 Wed, May 3, 2000 (15:00) #173
Great, looks like a rocky wall on my very poor monitor that I'm using now.
~MarciaH Wed, May 3, 2000 (16:08) #174
It used to be more drab...now it is a classier and more colorful marble - like an Impressionist's sunset sky.
~MarciaH Wed, May 3, 2000 (16:11) #175
Thank you for checking...Now, if only the Resident Genius who put the other one on likes it, as well...
~stacey Wed, May 10, 2000 (12:27) #176
And hey... Resident Genius to whom I'm sure Miss M speaks... I'll be in town for a week... May 15-19... promise stop by to say howdy if you'll be around... lemme know
~MarciaH Wed, May 10, 2000 (12:30) #177
* s i g h *
~Phoenix Thu, Mar 14, 2002 (16:46) #178
test
~MarciaH Thu, Mar 14, 2002 (19:23) #179
yes!
~WERoland Sun, Aug 28, 2005 (17:20) #180
Hmmm...what do you all think? Should I host a conf again?
~wolf Sun, Aug 28, 2005 (18:32) #181
YES!!!
~terry Sun, Aug 28, 2005 (22:33) #182
Sure!
~WERoland Sat, Oct 8, 2005 (17:58) #183
Well, then, add WERoland to the host list for food, and I'll have a go at it again, I suppose.
~MarciaH Sat, Oct 8, 2005 (19:47) #184
Please do. I kept talking to myself in there. We'll help by asking impossible questions. Wolfie and Terry will be there too. Spring just isn't the same without you !!
~wolf Sat, Oct 8, 2005 (21:02) #185
yaaaaay!!!
~dot Fri, Oct 14, 2005 (07:57) #186
~terry Fri, Oct 14, 2005 (08:04) #187
wer 'o land, how has it been going as host of food? Are you able to change settings and get around ok? Since you were last here, we reinstalled on a new machine and we are going to be doing that again this year. Going to a new, more powerful machine. Arriving today is the hardware to build 2 FreeBSD/Linux machine and 2 Windows 2003 machines. I know, it bites to run a Windows Server, but I gotta do some prjects that require it.
~WERoland Fri, Oct 14, 2005 (18:52) #188
so far, so good
~terry Fri, Oct 14, 2005 (22:00) #189
See the pizza secrets in food. Hardware is here.
~weroland Sun, Apr 9, 2006 (13:22) #190
Need a little help, as I broke the rc file for the cooking conference... Can it be deleted by someone with access, please? That should fix the problem. Thanks!
~MarciaH Sun, Apr 9, 2006 (14:55) #191
I know I am not on that list but I'll see if going in thru Geo's rc file will help me access it. Delete rc file... attempting to do so
~MarciaH Sun, Apr 9, 2006 (14:56) #192
Negative... I got an internal error page. Sorry!
~terry Sun, Apr 9, 2006 (21:07) #193
I'll see what I can do.
~wolf Thu, Apr 13, 2006 (16:54) #194
yeah, i got that error page too *frown*
~MarciaH Thu, Apr 13, 2006 (21:24) #195
It's still broken. Terry is all you have to do is clear the rc box? it should be easy enough (she said after being rescued enough time from her own mistakes)
~WERoland Fri, Apr 14, 2006 (16:01) #196
Just go in, by like say ftp, and delete the entire rc file for the conference.
~terry Wed, Apr 19, 2006 (07:22) #197
ok doing it now. ok I cleared the rc file out, wiped it clean, and created a backup called rc.bak. Clever, eh?
~wolf Tue, Apr 25, 2006 (17:01) #198
so can we get into the conference yet?
