NFL picks. The ground rules. Pick your teams before the kickoff of the
first NFL game over the weekend. We're starting with week 3 of the '96
NFL season. The picks were over running our NFL '96 item and TJ Cellery
came up with this bright idea!

Ma' pix (and x - where Max differs) as you may have heard on Max's radio
this morning (1490 am KFON). We disagree on four games.
Saints sink AZ
Chiefs cream Denver
Packers over Minnesota (my gut says otherwise)
Pats put away Jacksonville
Jets jettison Giants
9ers put out Panthers
Bucs scuttle Seahawks
x - Cardinals upset Redskins (going against the grain here)
Detroit dusts off Da' Bears
Dallas defeats da' Bills
x - Raiders roust Chargers
x - Falcons flatten Philly
x - Miami (upset) messes up the Indy Colts (go JJ!)
Now, when the fax comes in I'll post it up here. I hear that there are 30 picks this week over KFON's listener line.

OK we believe you. But no more exceptions. The games are underway now
and I'm kicked back watching the Packers lose the to Vikings. It's still
early though. I told Max when I made my pick that my gut said Minnesota.
14-7 Vikes at the half. And, holy cow, the Panthers have the Niners down
14 to zip. Skins over Rams 10-0 in the third. Giants 7 and Jets 6 in
the 3rd. Pats over Jags in the third. Some early returns at the half of
the FOX game one.

I'll put together a 5 week total soon...
A question that we'll be wanting to think about:
In picking an overall winner, do we want to accommodate people that haven't participated the whole time? For example, we could take people's best w/l
totals for their best say, 12 weeks. Or we could do the best winning percentage
for all the picks turned in, but that has the disadvantage of benefitting those who haven't played except for one good week.
Post proposals here, as well as name corrections if you know 'em...
Thanks.
~TJ

I took a beating in week one, because I joined in week 2......
Best possible way is to go whole season the same way.
Everyone on equal footing. People starting late and want in on the whole season take 1 less win then the lowest person and start from there.
~terry
Tue, Oct 1, 1996 (14:25)
#39
I'd set a certain minimum number of games picked, at least half say to
qualify for the season championship. That way folks could conceivably
enter up to midseason, but not just coast by on a few weeks.
~boyce2
Tue, Oct 1, 1996 (15:04)
#40
So 8 games? That sounds good to me... People who played in week one and
every week thereafter stand to carry a huge advantage if we go TJ's way.
Here's another possibility that my freinds use in their pool:
Assume that any unspecified pick follows the line printed in the paper.
That takes care of any errors that people make (not picking an individual
game accidently) And even if you miss a whole week, it's not a huge price
to pay. I think this method may be a little generous, but it'll keep more
people in the hunt, and since this is just a friendly game, why discourage participation? If you really want to include a minimum number of weeks,
that'll work too. Eight and ten both seem like fair minimums to me...
