Mallory's 14th century masterpiece which culled previous French romances from Chretien de Troyes & c. and forged them into something immortal. I particularly like the last book, describing the literal morte, or death, of Arthur. Some scholars have pointed out that Mallory seems more interested in the warlike aspect of Lancelot than he does in the the religous overtones of the Grail Quest. Any thoughts? Also, WHY do modern translations always read like bad pseudo- Shakespeare (with "thees" and "thous") when the real thing is in beautiful, quite simple Middle English? medieval conference | Main Menu
