Do MP3 encoders sound different?

Do MP3 encoders affect final sound quality? Yes, they do. Not only do compressed samples from different encoders sound different, they measure differently as well. How can this be, considering that MP3 is an encoding standard? While you might expect different players to decode MP3s differently, you might be surprised to learn that encoding can make just as much difference.

Some of them are pretty miserable compared with stereo FM and other places available on the net. Some are also quite good. It is still an iffy business.

They are much improved now. It depends on your download source. If it is excellent and you have digital speakers or headset, you are in for a glourious aural experience.
