While listening to the album The Beatles (a.k.a. the White Album), hearing the song "Martha My Dear", I suddenly imagined the single spinning on the record player. The only other song I've ever heard on a CD player that made me imagine I was hearing it on a 45 single was "One Year Of Love" by Queen. I wonder what quality of a song would make me imagine the single actually spinning on a turntable?

Some of the earliest music I heard was on a turntable. In fact, my dad owned a Scully Lathe and somewhere on earth exists my tiny child voice speaking with my grandfather. Song? In particular? Ancient wheezy scratchy records of Alma Gluck and Caruso whom we children loathed and had to sit quietly though. You've been busy today, Sam. Thanks for the memories. There are more - I just need to think of them.

A 45 ? Immediately I think of "The Great Pretender" - my freshman year the girl next door had it and played it like a loop - continuously. Happily, I also liked it.
