The Office. Is it brilliant tv? "The Office" won't get a chance to extend its award streak at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. The British comedy, which airs on BBC America in the United States and won a Golden Globe for best comedy series in January, doesn't have enough eligible episodes to qualify for Emmy consideration. The show's second season consisted of six episodes. One of those was submitted for the International Emmys, which removed it from Primetime Emmy consideration and lowered the number of eligible episodes to five. BBC America thought nothing of it at the time, since in previous years the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences required eight episodes of a series for Primetime Emmy consideration. from Zap2it.com's commentary.

More from the above article: This year, though, the academy lowered the qualifying number of episodes from eight to six, meaning "The Office" could have been eligible had it not chosen to enter the International Emmys. "We were victims of timing, really, but there was no way around it," BBC America COO Jo Petherbridge tells The Hollywood Reporter. "But we totally accept the situation, and it's actually been fantastic going back and forth trying to find a solution to this with the TV academy." "Office" co-creator/star Ricky Gervais also won a Golden Globe this year for best actor in a comedy series. The show also picked up a Peabody Award recently. NBC has ordered an adaptation of "The Office," starring "Daily Show" alumnus Steve Carell, for midseason next year.
