This is the place where we create new conferencs and topics on the spring
and encourage folks to go and post some comments or add some topics of
their own. It's also where we talk about how to *promote* and get the
word out about our conferences/topics on the web.

How to get a conference going:
1. login as sysop.
2. click on conference index
3. click on sysop functions to go
http://www.spring.com/yapp-bin/restricted/cfcreate
(it may be faster to bookmark this in netscape if you're creating a
lot of conferences)
4. fill in all the forms, choose either 8(normal) or 16(allows readonly)
as the conference type
5. AFter it's create, telnet www.spring.com and join the conference
as a normal user (not sysop) and add the first topic which is usually
introductions and perhaps a few starter topics.
6. send the conference url to the search engines under several topic
keywords
7. email the most popular sites on the net in this topic area with the
url of the conference and an invitation to link to it from their site.
They can link directly to the conference itself. It's easy to copy and
paste this link from your location window in netscape. If the conference
allows readonly, this is the best link to use. In the link you provide
o use 'public' instead of 'restricted' in the url and do use 'all' if
there isn't much content in the topic yet.
for example:
http://www.spring.com/yapp-bin/public/read/sports/10
This takes you to item 10 in the sports conference as readonly and
then you can click the login or signup buttons.

I just created a media conference. Other related conferences in this
general area of media could include:
chron The Austin Chronicle
aas The Statesman/austin360 website
newtex New Texas
texmo Texas Monthly
We're trying to keep the conference title down to 8 characters or less
so we can print neat formattted lists across the page.

More conferences to create in this general area:
zines includes fringeware review
newslet newsletters
mags magazines
epub electronic newspapers and publications
After all these were created, then the navigational menu needs to be
modified. You can go to the Spring main menu and click on conferences.
Then click on media and communications which points to
http://www.spring.com/cats/media.html (needs to be created)
