Mail-Check -- Mail-Check is the latest background mail poller and
is offered in both 16-bit and 32-bit versions. Mail-Check's strongest
feature is the ability to monitor multiple accounts on multiple
servers at the same time. While Mail-Check is roughly similar to its
competition (e-Mail Notify, Ladybird, and Post Office), it is still the
youngest in terms of development and lacks some features that are
common-fare for the other clients.
Mail-Check could benefit from right mouse button functionality,
online help documentation, integration with the Windows 95 task
bar for the 32-bit version, a status bar for displaying message
progress, message header retrieval, and an audio alert for new
messages. Still, despite its current limitations, Mail-Check is a
graphically appealing and promising client that will undoubtedly see
massive improvements over the next few months. And thanks to its
freeware status, Mail-Check is already an app that will instantly
please more than a few netizens.
Pros: Background mail checker that can check multiple mailboxes
on multiple servers
Cons: Lacks some of the features found in the competitions'
releases
New: No obvious new features in v0.5c
Version Reviewed: 0.5c
Date of Review: 2/28/96

I think the caveat here, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that this is
strictly a checker and not a mail reader. Now, if someone comes along
with a program that will automatically gather mail from multiple
mailboxes and store it in convenient folders by account name, I'll be a
happy camper.
