Spell Check for Edit Boxes -- Spell Checker for Windows launches via a configurable hotkey to check the spelling of documents in standard applications. In fact, Spell Checker works with nearly every winsock app (and many non-winsock apps as well) available -- Eudora, Turnpike, Netscape, News Xpress, Free Agent, and Mosaic to name a few -- and best of all, there's no need to modify a cryptic .ini file to get additional programs to run Spell Checker. While past releases of Spell Checker have been quite confusing to install, the newest release makes this process much easier. In addition, the online help documentation has been improved to make configuration even easier. However, it is still necessary to download and install the dictionary of your choice. Currently, US English, UK English, French, and German dictionaries are available for use with Spell Checker. Overall, this is an extremely useful spelling checker for the many clients out there that don't currently include spelling checkers. Pros: Quick and efficient spell checker, works via a configurable hotkey Cons: Couldn't get Spell Checker to work with Emissary, a few snags here and there New: Improved support for additional programs, bug fixes, better suggest engine Version Reviewed: 3.00 Official Release Date of Review: 8/4/95 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud (Revised 8/8/95 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud)

I like this product a lot and use it frequently; the only issue I have with its behavior is that when checking a long document, the editing window doesn't scroll as the checker moves through the doc, so that you get presented with words flagged as possibly in error, but you can't see the context of the word or phrase in question. Getting to that spot requires you to shut down the spell checker, find the spot, and then restart from there. Otherwise, everything is pretty cool.
