Spell Check -- This is a spelling checker pre-configured to work with American Online and other commercial services as well as quite a few 'net apps (Free Agent, Netscape, Eudora Light, and the Trumpet Newsreader) and Windows apps (Notepad 3.x and 95, clipboard, and Wordpad 95). The good news is that it can also be configured to work with most internet clients; the bad news is that involves modifying a cryptic .ini file. Spell Check already works with common Windows 3.x clients like Notepad and Write and also for some Windows 95 clients like the revised Notepad and WordPad clients. It functions as an external program that places a copy of the information to be checked in its buffer, checks and corrects errors based on your input, and then places the new copy back into the original client. As you can imagine, this results in slightly slower checks compared to Spell Checker for Edit Boxes (see the above description). Pros: Can be configured to work with many winsock applications Cons: Cryptic, difficult .ini file for configuring new clients, slightly slow New: Windows 95 support; now pre-configured for Compuserve Mosaic, Netscape, and more Version Reviewed: 3.3 Date of Review: 3/23/96 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud

I have AutoSpell and when you purchase the program you can put it on wordpad, aol, eudora, and just about everything else on your PC other than browsers.

Pros: It was the only one I knew about and Son recommended it as the one he used. Cons: Cost= $34.95 for all apps on your pc including Eudora, aol, wordpad and Word; Vocabulary is weak so you end up adding just about everything to your custom dictionary. I am currently having problems having it find the correct dictionary to use on apps because of interface with using it on Word is so bad that it gets lost and you have to rebuild the entire custom dictionary.
