Starfish Internet Utilities provides a desktop and internet organizer
on steroids. I discovered while
watching tv.com on Saturday morning and went to their web site to get
it. It was their download of the
week.
The program has components:
1. QuickMarks - Consolidate and protect Bookmarks and Favorites in a
single secure location.
Graphically organize your valuable collection using customizable tabs
and icons. Effortlessly swap Web
site collections with colleagues without needing to key in or
memorize awkward URL names. Automatically
be alerted when updates are made to your favorite web sites for the
fastest, most efficient way to stay
up to date! Browser settings - Choose which browser you prefer
(Navigator, Explorer, or you system
default browser) QuickMark It! - automatically add a web page to your
QuickMarks by clicking on the
QuickMark It! button.
2. InternetMeter - Measure online time and status of connections for
maximum productivity. Track your
connection time by day, week, or month with precision.
Track your connection time by day, week, or month with precision Log
all your online activity, no matter
how you connect (via modem, or fast network connection) to the
Internet Keep track of how much time and
money youre spending online!
3. QuickZip - Speed up online file transfers and save disk space with
one-step compression and
decompression to conserve disk space.
100% compatible with PKZip and WinZip Create self-extracting files
4. InternetClock - Gives you up-to-the-second synchronization with
the ultra-accurate Internet time
servers.
You can view multiple clocks for different time zones and even set
reminders and alarms with the click
of a button - essential for the global traveler! Accurate to within
three seconds per 1,000 years!
Pros:
- does a great job of unifying and consolidating Netscape and
Explorer bookmarks.
- you have the option of customizing it, eg. you can run it as a
floating window or as a section of the
screen.
- It can zip up files with it's compression routine.
Cons:
- You have to give up some more desktop real estate
- Some of the icons are too big, if they were smaller there would be
less scrolling
- It's not about to knock WinZip out of the park.
- It does some quirky rearranging of the desktop icons at times.
