List your top 5 babes for us!
~Wolf #1
1. david duchovny (like, duh!) 2. christopher lampert (woohoo--esp. in greystoke) 3. ralph fiennes (think that's the spelling)-loved him best in W.H. -- wait, who all can we include? can they be anyone?
~Wolf #2
4. andy garcia
~terry #3
We been drooled!
~autumn #4
ha ha! Had the tables turned in your own conference!
~Wolf #5
hey, terry, it was about babes, ok...the only topic in drool that concerns me is david's and i get no feedback there...*giggle*
~terry #6
Kinda like in ghostbusters where they get "slimmed"; can drooling be that much different. Or maybe "slimming" is advanced level drooling?
~Wolf #7
slimmed? get skinny? or do you mean slimed? get slime all over you? *giggle* drooling is not my style, not very attractive either-would indicate you have a slobber control problem and who'd wanna hang with someone like that?
~KitchenManager #8
(drats, shot down already for something I can't control... everyone is just too darn picky...)
~terry #9
I meant slimed, though getting slimmed would be a good thing.
~mikeg #10
Well, following the influx of drool-like stuff from our, ahem, lady guests, maybe I can post some TESTOSTERONE!!!!! 1. Claire Danes 2. Alicia Silverstone 3. Jenny McCarthy 4. Claudia Schiffer 5. Claire Danes ;)
~stacey #11
alright alright, at the risk of being slimed... who the heck is Claire Danes? Is this someone I should know?
~terry #12
Mike must really dig her, two positions on his chart and all.
~Wolf #13
stacey, she's the one from My So Called Life, Little Women (Beth, I believe), and, of late, Romeo and Juliet. Mike, you really go for them young babes, huh?
~KitchenManager #14
well, she's not the cute in My So Called Life, she played Angela...
~KitchenManager #15
oops, should have said cute one in...
~Wolf #16
who was the cute one in my so called life wer?
~mikeg #17
doh....stacey....doh i'm tempted to ban you from the conf. for that faux pas ;)) claire is
~mikeg #18
i went to see Romeo and Juliet again on Saturday night. Nip to topic 25 in the movies conference.
~Wolf #19
no, i know who claire is. i just thought they were all cute. was wondering about you guys!
~terry #20
My top 3 babes, at the moment, are the women who played the lead roles in the NBC production of "Merlin". Coming on the heels of Eeyores birthday, I was stirred by these ancient legends and the fine portrayals by these outstanding actresses (quotes from NBCs website): Isabella Rossellini as Nimue - Isabella Rossellini began her career before the camera as a broadcast journalist for RAI-Italian Television. At the relatively advanced age of 28, she became a model, working with photographers such as Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindburgh and Steven Meisel. For fourteen years, she was the exclusive model for Lancome cosmetics. Rossellinis American film debut was opposite Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines in Taylor Hackfords White Nights (1985). In 1986, she starred opposite Dennis Hopper as Dorothy Vallens, the tortured lounge singer, in David Lynchs haunting and controversial Blue Velvet. Other films include the romantic comedy Cousins (opposite Ted Danson) and Wild at Heart (also from David Lynch). In 1992, she was featured in Death Becomes Her, opposite Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis, and Fearless, opposite Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez. She starred as Big Nose Kate in Lawrence Kasdans Wyatt Earp (opposite Kevin Costner and Dennis Quaid), and in Immortal Beloved with Gary Oldman. Most recently, Rossellini starred as a two-timing girlfriend in Big Night, co-directed by Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott, which won Best Screenplay at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival; and in Abel Ferraras The Funeral. Miranda Richardson as Mab - One of the most versatile actresses working today, Miranda Richardson has received accolades for her work in film, television and on stage. A native of Lancashire, England, she originally aspired to be a veterinary surgeon. However, animals lost a fine doctor when she decided to go to drama school and was accepted by the Bristol Old Vic Theater School. Graduation was followed by several years of repertory theater. While playing in The Life of Einstein at the Dukes Playhouse in Lancaster, director Mike Newell cast her as Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in England in Dance with a Stranger. Although not a box office success, the film garnered her several British film awards and brought Richardson to the attention of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in his WWII epic Empire of the Sun. A myriad of film roles followed, including Enchanted April (1992), for which she received her first Golden Globe Award (Best Actress in a Comedy), Neil Jordans controversial The Crying Game (1992), Damage (1992, Oscar nomination - Best Actress), Tom and Viv (1994, Golden Globe nomination - Best Film Actress), Robert Altmans Kansas City (1996) and The Evening Star (1996) opposite Shirley MacLaine. She will also play the voice of Anna in Warner Bros. animated version of The King & I. and Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan Le Fey - From her debut as the teenage Queen of England in 1985s Lady Jane, Helena Bonham Carter has bewitched audiences with her remarkable talent and a beauty that seems to be drawn from an Edwardian painting. Time magazines Richard Corliss has called her " ... our modern antique goddess." A native of London, Bonham Carter is the great-granddaughter of H.H. Asquith, who served as Englands Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916. Her father was a Harvard-educated banker, and her mother a psychotherapist. Bonham Carter was accepted at Cambridge University, but after landing the lead in Lady Jane at eighteen, decided to pursue acting as a career. Her next film (and the first of four she has made based on E.M. Forster novels), A Room with a View, first brought her to the attention of American audiences. She has also starred in The Vision (1987), Francesco (1989), Kenneth Branaghs Hamlet (1990), Howards End (1992), Mary Shelleys Frankenstein (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Twelfth Night (1996). Bonham Carter is currently garnering rave reviews for two new films, Keep the Aspidistra Flying (written by George Orwell) and The Wings of the Dove (based on a Henry James novel). For American television, Bonham Carter starred as Marina Oswald, wife of Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, in the NBC movie Fatal Deception (1993).
~KitchenManager #21
the one who played Reyanne(sp?), she was also on Coach, and in Escape from L.A... although, at times, Ricky was pretty damn adorable...
~terry #22
CAST Sam Neill: Merlin Isabella Rossellini: Nimue Miranda Richardson: Mab/Lady of the Lake Martin Short: Frik Rutger Hauer: Vortigern Helena Bonham Carter: Morgan Le Fey Sir John Gielgud: King Constant James Earl Jones: Mountain King Paul Curran: Arthur Jeremy Sheffield: Lancelot Lena Heady: Guinevere Rachel Colover: Lady Igraine Billie Whitelaw: Ambrosia Dilys Lane: Gudrun Emma Lewis: Elissa Talula Sheppard: Lady Friend Janine Eser: Lady Elaine Alice Hamilton: Young Morgan Le Fey Camilla Oultram: Young Girl at Fair Agnieszka Koson: Young Nimue Susan Rayner: Village Woman Charlotte Church: Singer Is it in the above list? Add Lena Heady to my list and I'm scratching my head on Reyanne(sp?). Could it be Rhiannon like in the Fleetwood Mac song? Ricky? Can you elaborate some more, wer?
~pmnh #23
yes, probably... in celtic mythology, she (rhiannon) was the daughter of heyfeydd, and wife to both pwyll and mannannan (each of whom's mythology is intertwined with that of arthur)...
~KitchenManager #24
My apologies... my response #21 should have been prefaced with in re response #'s 14, 15, 16, and 19 (I'll be quiet now)
~terry #25
No, don't be quiet! I made a tape of Merlin. Where would I look for Rhiannon and the other name you mentioned? What were they doing?
~mikeg #26
wow....some vampy types there, terry....need a bit of domination, do we? ;)
~terry #27
Did you see this show Mike? Did they carry it in England?
~mikeg #28
not to my knowledge.
~Wolf #29
i heard it sucked :) (but i like isabella and helena) wer: i know who you're talking about. apparantly everybody else got wrapped up in the King Arthur thing. i liked her too! ricky was cute too!
~terry #30
Can you give me more clues as to who these other two cast members were? What did they do in the show?
~Wolf #31
reyanne and ricky were castmembers from My So-Called Life. Man did things get confused!! don't ask me what their real names are. The gal who played reyanne also played the mother of the little boy that Coach adopted on the sitcom Coach. You there? Got it?
~terry #32
Got it, except how can I place them in the show the other night, what roles did they play in Merlin?
~Wolf #33
none. wer and i were discussing the cute gals on my so-called life and in the middle of it, merlin showed up!! *smile*
~terry #34
Man, did I get confused! OK. OK. I get it.
~autumn #35
LOL! This topic was beginning to look like Keystone Cops, or "Who's on first?" there for a while! I didn't see "Merlin," but I loved "Big Night" (which featured Isabella). God, she looks just like her mother, doesn't she?
~pmnh #36
yeah... (she favors her a great deal)... their beauty shares some of the same qualities, but bergman's was more intense, i think... (beauty like her's is rarified stuff)
~mikeg #37
did i put lizzy montgomery into my list?
~KitchenManager #38
not sure, but you did mention her somewhere, cause you were upset that's she's deceased...
~autumn #39
Wow, you'd put dead people on your list?
~Wolf #40
doesn't mean they weren't babes! oh, and another beauty, juliette binoche, she is, she's just amazing!
~autumn #41
If dead people are ok, what about your top 5 historical babes? that could be interesting....
~mikeg #42
open a topic!
~KitchenManager #43
hey, it just occurred to me no one has mentioned our beloved Janet Reno...
~riette #44
Who is she? Sorry, I no nothing about American political figures.
~riette #45
Oh, DAMN!!! This is pathetic. I KNow nothing about American political figures, Wer.
~autumn #46
LOL! Great photo, wer! She's the US Attorney General. I love it that you knew she was in politics, Riette...never suspected she might be a popular entertainer, huh? I should find a picture of Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski and post it--she makes Janet Reno look like Claudia Schiffer.
~mikeg #47
well she's a chick. maybe we could invite her here for a guest appearance?
~riette #48
Who? Barbara Mikulski, Janet Reno or Claudia? Oh, last night Ruby Wax interviewed Pamela Anderson. Jesus!
~autumn #49
LOL!! I can only imagine...
~riette #50
Don't do that to yourself. It was the kind of stuff that could give a person nightmares! I threw tons of cherries at the screen, and then was pi$$ed off afterwards for having to clean it up again, but I could not help it!
~pmnh #51
doesn't all the janet reno bashing you hear strike you as being just the least bit sexist? i mean, anyone ever take a good look at george schultz or john mitchell or any number of truly hideously grotesque male cabinet members over the years? how come she's singled out?
~riette #52
'Cos she's cleverer than all of them!
~autumn #53
You are right, Nick, of course it is because she's a woman and doesn't meet the accepted standard for female beauty. But it doesn't matter if a man is ugly, fat or bald. (BTW, nice to see you--I've missed you!!)
~riette #54
We could post all those fat baldies into drool - sure the ladies over there will love 'em! I'm sure people only become ugly, fat or bald if they act ugly, fat and bald.
~riette #55
I turn pretty ugly, fat and bald at least once a month!
~pmnh #56
i think the thing with janet reno isn't just her (evident, i admit) lack of beauty... i can think of any number of female public figures similarly, ummmm, challenged... what really sets people off about her is a couple of things, but mainly that she "acts like a man"... she projects an unapologetic toughness that still isn't entirely socially acceptable for women... just about every redneck i know (and i seem to know inordinate numbers of them) is convinced she's a lesbian, which may or may not be true, and is of course entirely irrelevent, except that it demonstrates the depth of the problem... (yahoo-ism being alive and well in austin, tx., and most everywhere else, i suspect)... it's a little troubling, though, and puzzling too, when i hear such comments emanating from women... regardless of one's political orientation, janet reno has been at least an adequate attorney general, i think, and that she's maintained her dignity throughout speaks well for her... (VERY well, considering the venomous and personal nature of the ridicule she's endured)... (good to see you, too, autumn)
~terry #57
SNL has been merciless with her over the years.
~autumn #58
You make a very good point, Nick, that it's the combination of her un-feminine appearance and conduct that draws criticism (which brings out the lowest comon denominator in most men: "she must be a lesbian.") Women can either look tough or act tough, but not both.
~sonja #59
At least she can't be accused of being politically correct then - a sure plus!
~wolf #60
and she does take responsibility for her actions, a rare thing these days. i could care less that she's un-feminine or what her sexual orientation is, to tell you the truth!
~sonja #61
I agree whole heartedly. And as far as I'm concerned there is only human sexuality. Homo, Lesbian, are words of no signifigance really. Humans are sexual beings, and should enjoy being sexual beings - that is all that matters.
~riette #62
WOW, girl! I didn't know you felt that way! You're just full of surprises, aren't ye? Cool ones, I might add...
~wolf #63
unfortunately, too many people use that excuse to do whatever they please. there are sexual urges that should be controlled and not acted upon. but that's for another topic, i guess-maybe philosophy?
~riette #64
I think any sexuality is good as long as nobody gets hurt physically or emotionally.
~wolf #65
well, i was referring to pedophiles and such.....
~sonja #66
I'm not sure if one can refer to that as sexuality. I mean it's just a perversion, right? I think there's a big difference between sexuality and perversion.
~pmnh #67
(as anyone familiar with roman polanski can attest)
~wolf #68
yeah, i guesso, it's more about power and stuff. (and a serious mental problem, no doubt).
~riette #69
There are sick people in the world!
~mrchips #70
Top five babes: 5. Madeline Stowe 4. Lucy Alexis Liu 3. Vanessa Williams 2. Tia Carrere 1. Mariah Carey
~terry #71
Wow Madelaine Stowe made it to the top 5, what is your particular attraction for her?
~wolf #72
well, being of the female persuasion, i think it's great that john selected madeline stowe. i have always thought her to be beautiful! but mariah carey? i think she's vain and stuck on herself. but, that's me!
~mrchips #73
Madeline Stowe is a classical beauty--and she can act. I've often wondered what she was doing married to Brian Benben, but that just proves she isn't shallow since she is both better looking and probably richer than he is. He did play a stud-muffin loser (an oxymoron?) in "Dream On," but he is funny. So she must have a great sense of humor, as well. Now that I've answered that question, I no longer wonder what she is doing with Brian Benben. If one doubts her smoldering sexuality watch "Stakeout," "U lawful Entry," and "The Last of the Mohicans." If you are still unconvinced; get some glasses. Wolf's point on Mariah Carey is well-taken. She does play the diva to the hilt. I also don't care that much for her music. She has a fabulous voice and could be what Aretha Franklin was, music wise, but chooses instead to be a pop tart. But still, there's no denying that the gene pool made her something to look at.
~terry #74
But number one?
~mrchips #75
Are you talking about Mariah Carey or Madeline Stowe, because you hadn't mentioned Mariah (my number one) before. YOu just questioned my choice of Madeline (number five). By the way, the order of these and even who is in them is subjective and changeable upon mood and whim. I wish I knew how to import a photo or two into here. I've tried, but have been unsuccessful.
~MarciaH #76
John, I will email the command string and what you must put in it...for posting photos.
~mrchips #77
Thank you...all hail MarciaMarciaMarcia!
~MarciaH #78
Please John, try what I just sent you. It is magical to watch your first HTML picture emerge and bloom on a page forever. Go to it, then I will do it if you fail...
~MarciaH #79
~MarciaH #80
You try John, on Drool 61 for practice. The next one YOU are going to do yourself.
~mrchips #81
Let's see if this thing works.
~mrchips #82
Thank you, Marcia. And YESSSSS! I know she's not a rocket scientist, but it's not like I'll ever have a chance. To quote Billy Joel: "It's just a fantasy, it's not the real thing." Hurt me, Baby! Make me write bad checks!
~mrchips #83
I misunderstood your directions. I thought I was going to send from the site you had posted the picture, not from here. It's too late and it was my first day back at school today (my real job during the week, as Marcia pointed out earlier). Considering how awful Hawaii's public school's are, I almost wish you hadn't.
~mrchips #84

It's too late and it was my first day back at school today (my real job during the week, as you pointed out earlier). Considering how awful Hawaii's public schools are, I almost wish you hadn't. Although in the last year, I wrote recommendation letters for three of my former students to Harvard and all were admitted. So was I--to the loony bin!

~mrchips #86
You would be my number one Babe, but Ray is an ex-Marine and I don't want to die!
~mrchips #87
Okay, I think I got the hang of this. Let's see if I can post some of my other Top Five Babes. If I chant the magic mantra, will #3, Vanessa Williams, appear?
~mrchips #88
I'm having trouble getting into Madeline Stowe's site (I don't have Prodigy and they are @##$%%^$$##s! In the meantime, I present #4: Lucy Alexis Liu (best pic I could find, but doesn't do her face justice.
~mrchips #89
Yes, I'm mad about Madeline! By the way, it is still her birthday, Hawaii time as I post this. Age: 41 D.O.B.: 8/18/58, Eagle Rock, Ca. Happy birthday, Maddy! I've listed you as #5, but today, you're #1!
~mrchips #90
Ah, the sweet smell of success. Here is #2, Tia Carrere! That means all my Top Five fantasies are posted photographically here.
~mrchips #91
Here's another fabulous babe who deserves more than honorable mention. I only had five spots on my top five list, but I LOVE her. Here she is, as Guinevere in the movie "First Knight," Julia Ormond:
~wolf #92
you forgot juliette binoche...
~mrchips #93
Wolf, With all due respect, no I didn't. Although I have tremendous respect for her acting talent (even though I must admit "The English Patient" bored me to tears--not an easy admission if you wish to be seen as cerebral--I did love her in "Damage"), she'd make my top 100 on babeosity, which isn't bad, but isn't anywhere near the top five. Tia makes my list because I coached her in Bobby Sox softball 20 some years ago, when I was still on Oahu. She was Althea then (I can't remember her real last name off th top of my head), but even then, at age 11 or so, there was something about her. The list is subjective, different on a daily basis, and the difference of everyone's list is what makes it cool. You can't see Mariah Carey on it, Terry can't see Madeline Stowe...I love healthy disagreement.
~MarciaH #94
Alright John! You posted your first picture, and a fine job you did. TEP bored me, too, despite CF being in it, and I have a copy to watch forever...but not very likely that I will do so. I do not think women are the best judge of what makes men go for certain women over others just as men can't figure what the lure of CF is for so many of us. It is just one of those things.
~mrchips #95
I can understand the allure of Colin Firth. It's Kevin Costner that I don't get. He's been in some fine movies, but generally that wasn't because of him. His one great claim to fame on his own merit is "Dances With Wolves," and I have to admit--great flick, KC or no KC. But it's the only project he's initiated that really worked.
~mrchips #96
Wolf, Here's something for you, just to prove I didn't forget Juliette Binoche. And I have to admit "Ooh la la...". This does indeed belong on a "babes" page:
~stacey #97
Hey Marcia ****** John, I will email the command string and what you must put in it...for posting photos. ******* can I have that too?!?!
~wolf #98
just teasing mrchips!! i think top 5 is too short a list. and just the opposite of you, john, i CAN see the allure of kevin over firth *grin* didn't care for the english patient either. the film that captured my attention of her and ralph fiennes *drool* was A&E's wuthering heights. my lists are forever changing but the fundamentals of what makes a babe (drool) for me doesn't. my selections have a lot to do with character. you worked with tia? that's so darned cool. i liked her in, yeah, you're gonna flip, but wayne's world!! didn't know she could sing. i must say that you have good taste, john! not the "bubble-headed bleach blondes" or however that line goes *grin*
~MarciaH #99
Want me to email it to you, Stace? Can do, but you will have to come out of telnet to do it. Will get it to you right away. Oh, and John, thanks for the sentiment about your Numero Uno Babe being me...Ray would not harm you...I'd kill him first! He knows what a big fan of yours I am.
~mrchips #100
In the immortal words of the father of my illegitimate birth, Elvis Presley: "Thank ya...thank ya verramuch..." (Lisa Marie got all the money...I got the waistline!)
~mrchips #101
~mrchips #102
Fiennes--and his brother too, are both terrific actors. The amazing thing to me about Juliette Binoche is how adept she is in English vernacular and accent although she's French. And she's not hard on the ocular nerves, either...
~MarciaH #103
Feinnes...Bah humbug! Why does Colin Firth always have to take a subsidiary role to those brothers? He was the cuckold in TEP to "Rafe" and in SiL to Joseph. I hear they have a younger brother...too terrible to contemplate! JB is ok... I thought she was cute and talented. I wish they had played up that love story as the book did more than the other one, but...!
~Gregory #104
5. Shania Twain 4. Pamela Lee 3. Jamie Lee Curtis 2. Reba McEntire 1. Julia Roberts
~autumn #105
Gregory, I'm guessing Pamela was higher up on the list until she had her breast reduction. :-) John, your tastes are so multicultural! You're an equal opportunity drooleur.
~mrchips #106
Yes, I am! One of the reasons I love Hawaii so much!
~mrchips #107
I do love Reba McEntire. There's a woman with both beautiful red hair and talent!
~mrchips #108
Marcia, I don't know what to say about Colin Firth and his roles in relationship with the Fiennes (sorry, I couldn't help using the names in the same sentence in this context. Bad agent maybe? He sure does have talent, though.
~MarciaH #109
Thanks for your comiseration. There are a whole bunch of Firthians in Drool who would like to sit down with this man and fire his agent. In perfectly dreadful movies, he still manages to pull out a performance worthy of his talent, but is is almost never worthy of the effort. If you have not yet seen Fever Pitch, and get the chance (I have the PAL conversion) please see it. It is amazing, but still not Darcy. I can have top five babes? 5. Colin Firth 4. Harrison Ford 3. Sean Connery (see, Frank was not a fluke!) 2. Laurence Olivier (if we are into counting dead ones) 1. Colin Firth
~mrchips #110
All fine actors...multicultural in a way...only one American (but Harrison Ford SOUNDS so English)...Sean Connery is Irish, but since Bond, everyone thinks he's English (same with Pierce Brosnan). But again, we've been drooled!
~mrchips #111
And ath thomeone with a lithp might thay (isn't it cruelly ironic that someone with a lisp can't pronounce their affliction--George Carlin, my favorite stand-up philosopher)...you thought Firth wath tho nithe, you mentioned him twithe!
~KarenR #112
Sean Connery is Scottish. They are ready to elect him King. ;-D
~mrchips #113
I sit corrected. I did detect a Gaelic brogue in his accent. When one speaks English as well as he does it's hard to tell the difference.
~KarenR #114
Then you must have stopped watching Sean when gave up Bond because he no longer keeps the burr under wrrrrraaaaaaps. If there is anything we Drooleurs know, it's our Droolees. ;-D
~mrchips #115
He kinda had to when he played Arthur in "First Knight," but I must admit, other than that movie, "The Man Who Would Be King," and "Just Cause" (he played an American professor) he hasn't done much that interests me since Bond.
~mrchips #116
BTW, he was terribly miscast isn "Just Cause" (a terrific movie), but both Laurence Fishburne and Ed Harris were dynamite in it.
~MarciaH #117
You cannot imagine what fun it is to find my Hilo buddy of long standing discussing the fine points of Drool in Babes, with on of my best Firthian Friends (who can also write fiction circles around most people)...*lol* May I formally introduce you?!
~mrchips #118
I guess I wrote some fiction too, when I imagined Connery as Irish. I did check the internet movie database, though, which did confirm Ms. Karen's Conneric rectitude (born 1930, Edinburgh--Sean, not Karen!).
~wolf #119
john, have you seen untouchables? sean was great in it (and so was costner btw)
~KarenR #120
"When Capone puts one of yours in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue. That's the Chicago way." The Untouchables!! Great film and shot right here. Famous shot of entire group standing in middle of street was right in front of where I worked. Connery uses full Scottish burr in that one, despite the fact his character is supposed to be Irish. I can always hear it even when he's supposed to be a right proper Englishman. I don't think he has tried to hide it for many years. I also liked The Hunt for Red October, The Name of the Rose (or was it the book I liked??), and Marnie. And Marcia, your praise is going to make me *blush* Have to go, my one-day pass out of Drool is expiring. ;-D
~wolf #121
didn't hear of marnie, saw bits of the name of the rose but heard the book was better, never did see hunt for red october. tried the book and couldn't get passed the descriptions of all the instruments *grin* i love sean's accent and he should never hide it!
~MarciaH #122
Oooh, Hunt for Red October is a stunning movie. Loved it!
~KarenR #123
Marnie? With Tippi Hedren? By Hitchcock? Go rent it. Re: Clancy books. You are allowed to skim techno-babble. He's one of my fav junk authors. Movie wasn't true to book, but are they ever? ;-D
~MarciaH #124
I find if I love the book I will not see the movie (the exception is Firth's Pride and Prejudice...*gasping sigh* Not after what they did to my fav book as a young teenager, Ben Hur...and it won all of those awards! (BTW, a relative of mine was in the first Ben Hur)
~mrchips #125
I was less impressed with "The Untouchables" than Wolf was. To me, Costner just doesn't make it as a tough guy...Wyatt Earp was another example of that. "Tombstone" ten times better, and so was Kurt Russell's Earp. But Val Kilmer as a Coleridge quoting, laudenum quaffing, tuberculosis coughing Doc Holliday was classic! Back to "The Untouchables," Connery was terrific, burr and all. I still knew he was going to get blown away when he said "Just like a (racist expletive for Italian) to bring a knife to a gunfight!"
~mrchips #126
By the way, I'm tired of "Babes." It has been, through no intention of mine, turned to "Drool."
~mrchips #127
I now remember Tia Carrere's real given name...as I mentioned, when I coached her in softball she was 11 (1976). She was Althea Janairo. Graduated 1983: Sacred Hearts H.S. in Honolulu. Not only has singing talent to go with looks, but brains, too. Could have done well in college, but was "discovered" in Zane's IGA in Honolulu (Kaimuki) by the mother of a movie producer. She showed her brains by marrying a rich, young, handsome real estate developer in California. Would have loved to make the wedding but, *sniff* I wasn't invited. I haven't seen her since she was a child.
~wolf #128
watching some show on max with her in it. also got one of the baldwin brothers. and one of the guys that was on magnum p.i. (the chopper guy). and for your information, women can choose valid women babes too (and we don't have to be lesbian or bi to do it either)
~MarciaH #129
Hear! Hear! Amen...
~mrchips #130
The chopper guy on Magnum is Roger T. Mosley (good guy--still lives in Hawaii). I never once questioned a woman's sexuality for mentioning the relative babeosity of another woman (unless the woman mentioning had a deeper voice than mine and could drive a golf ball 250 yards).
~terry #131
You coached Tia Carrere! You did a good job!
~mrchips #132
Like I had anything to do with her acting career or her good looks. But I'll accept any praise, even the false variety.
~Gregory #133
autum No Pamela was not any higher on the list with or with the breast reduction. :)
~riette #134
Eeuw! I'm glad I'm not a man! Spamela Anderson, Mariah Carrey, Tia Carrere - eeuw!! If I were a man, I'd rather be gay!
~autumn #135
Ha-ha!
~terry #136
Spamela and Mariah ah I can see, but Tia? Why is she on Ree's not-babes list?
~riette #137
Because she looks like a leech.
~terry #138
Leech? She looked good as the stand up singer in Waynes World. I'm thinking of the scene where they did the satellite broadcast to the record company guy's limo near the movies end.
~mrchips #139
I'm prejudiced, but I think she's hot. Great mix, too. Mostly Filipina with some Hawaiian, Chinese and Spanish thrown in. She won't get a wrinkle before age 50.
~riette #140
OK, I'll be quiet now. I respect her for the fact that you knew her and thought she was a nice person. And I can't judge female sex-appeal, so I'm out of my league. It's true what you say though about people with mixed genes - they are more attractive than us inbreds, and their beauty lasts forever. Damn all of them. sweetest smile
~mrchips #141
Everybody is entitled to an opinion. I try to be nice even when being disagreeable...and it appears you do too (Damn Tom Cruise!...he's good looking AND RICH!) I'm glad I got that out of my system!
~riette #142
ha-ha! I find Tom Cruise as uncool as they come....
~autumn #143
Too much of a pretty-boy...
~mrchips #144
Yes, but a rich pretty-boy and married to Nicole Kidman (woo-hoo!)
~riette #145
Oh no, don't tell me Nicole Kidman is sexy....is my judgement THAT off?????
~mrchips #146
C'mon...aren't YOU a redhead, too?
~riette #147
growl Kinder people call it auburn. AUBURN, John!
~MarciaH #148
Kristen is a redhead...Ree is a luscious Auburn beauty.
~mrchips #149
I'm a guy...to me auburn is dark red...if a man knows the difference between "teal" and "aquamarine" hire him to decorate your home...he's gay.
~MarciaH #150
You have your computer monitor set to four colors, too? Women have much better color acuity (so my ex told me) but I did not know it was That much better!
~MarciaH #151
(mike froze my topic...so much for male hunk immortality!)
~mrchips #152
My mom always insisted her hair was auburn (I could have sworn it was red). It doesn't matter now. If it's red--it's store bought or salon applied!
~mrchips #153
Sorry, Ree...I'm impaired, not vicious...my mom might argue with that, though. Still, I like Nicole Kidman.
~mrchips #154
Besides, I like women growling at me. It reminds me of Ling Woo (Lucy Liu's character on "Ally McBeal").
~riette #155
So I have the OCCASIONAL red hair amongst all the auburn ones, okay?? snort Marcia, you think we should create another Male Babe topic? It might annoy Mike, but he only comes on every week or so - maybe he won't notice for a while. We could call it something else, so he won't spot it right away.
~mrchips #156
Go for it ladies...
~mrchips #157
AUBURN AUBURN AUBURN I'm going to have to remember that "Auburn" is a hair color and not just a university more famous for its football than its academics. And I'm sure if I don't, I'll be reminded. My mom says thanks for helping her with that.
~riette #158
gmpf! Can't believe you can't tell the difference between carrot and auburn ... There's a UNIVERSITY called auburn? You're kidding, right??
~mrchips #159
No. It's in Auburn, Alabama. And it usually has a good (American-style) football team. The Tigers. They are the arch rivals of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide (Forrest Gump's team).
~terry #160
It's not a joke ree, it's a real red blooded American football school, and you're such a big gootball fan right?
~MarciaH #161
Let's huddle on that suggestion Ree, and guess what the school colors are for Auburn?!
~MarciaH #162
...or we could set it up in Geo Conference and call it Gee....OH!!!!!
~riette #163
Oh no, the school colors aren't RED, are they??? That'll undermine my point! And, yeah RIGHT, Terry!
~zx6rider #164
OK I posted my male babes in that other topic... so I feel it's only fair that I post my female babes here. These are 'drool-worthy' in my book ;-) Julia Ormond Peta Wilson Angelina Jolie (as a brunette, hate her as a blonde) Tina Turner (I don't care how old she is) Joan Chen honorable mention: Sandra Bullock, Victoria Pratt (Sarge on Cleopatra 2525), Carrie-Ann Moss (Trinity in the Matrix), Stacy Dragila (U.s Womens pole vault)
~MarciaH #165
Good thinking, Gena *smile* Totally appropriate! I agreed with your last 2 for sure...
~wolf #166
madeline stowe julia ormond juliette binoche (is that her first name?) sandra bullock tina turner (go girl!!) (i might be adding some)
~MarciaH #167
I shall think on this and add some. TT is such a great lady!!!
~sprin5 #168
>She's 61 and she blew smoke in San Anton' the other day, I only wish I had been there. The reviews said she played an awesome 4 hour set, her last tour. Madeline Stowe is great. And of course Sandy is a local around these parts. The recent reviews in the Austin paper had a subhead that said "Sandy, if you're reading these, skip all these and just read review number 3" > >I like funny girls like Jan Hooks (http://www.janhooks.com), Sarah Jessica Parker, I'll think of more.
~zx6rider #169
Tina Turner is... AMAZING! I have tickets for her Boston concert in June. I can't wait. I saw her back in the 80's on her 'Private Dancer' tour. This one is said to be her best.
~sprin5 #170
Great, it's her last Boston concert and her final tour. Heather Grahame. Sarah Michelle Geller. Gwyneth Paltrow. Joan Allen. Cameron Diaz. Helen Hunt. Funny, foxy women.
~zx6rider #171
Whoops... I got more babes! Amanda Peet (sp), Melina Kanakaredes, Michelle Pfieffer, Halle Berry.
~sprin5 #172
Neve Campbell Lisa Kudrow Teri Hatcher (sort of) Mariel Hemingway Courtney Cox More funny, pretty girls.
~MarciaH #173
Is that your list...No Austinites? (heck, not even any Hiloites!)
~MarciaH #174
Just kidding! Glad you shortened your pseudo...on confifty I could not tell where you were posting!
~sprin5 #175
Add some Austinites: Sandy, of course Marcia Ball the lady singer in Timbuck III Joni Gilton, activist Patrice Sullivan Diana Knowles actress
~MarciaH #176
Thought there should be some long-stemmed roses in your selection. Very nice!
~autumn #177
Pretty, vivacious women: Sela Ward Andee MacDowell Michelle Pfeiffer Ashley Judd Julia Roberts
~sprin5 #178
Sela Ward was on that show Sisters, who were the other two actresses on that show?
~autumn #179
Let's see...Julianne Moore (formerly Mrs. Bruce Springsteen); Swoosie Kurtz; and Georgianna somebody (she was also on "thirtysomething"--played Susanna, Gary's wife).
~autumn #180
Wait, Georgianna was her name on the show (Georgie for short); just can't remember her real name at all. (ok, now I'm going to be up all night!)
~sprin5 #181
It only took 10 seconds of netsearching to find this, I keyed in the words sisters georgie in my browser and this site came up: http://www.sisterstv.com/sisters.asp Left to right. Frankie, Teddy, Georgie, Alex. Julianne Phillips, Sela Ward, Patricia Kalember, Swoosie Kurtz. This site if full of trivia and facts on this show.
~sprin5 #182
~MarciaH #183
Pardon me for being so "out of touch", but who is that stunner holding up the guy?
~sprin5 #184
You mean the guy holding up the stunner?
~MarciaH #185
Nope - wanna know who the female in the pix is. The guy does nothing for me just looking at him in this picture.
~sprin5 #186
You can cross reference it with the pictures I posted earlier in the topic, I would but I'm in text mode only right now.
~MarciaH #187
Gotcha! I should have known... That's ok. I'll leave the ladies to you. Men are far more interesting!
~autumn #188
THAT'S IT!! Patricia Kalember. Thank you, Terry! Good night, everyone! :-)
~MarciaH #189
Thank you! Worthy lady, indeed!
~sprin5 #190

~autumn #199
Don't keep us in suspense, Wolfie, who's #1??
~MarciaH #200
You guys are talking on the babes page and not the male babes? hmmmm!!!
~wolf #201
(i forgot we had a male babes topic-will con't this discussion there)...
~terry #202
Yes, let this spillover carnage cease. It's fair enough to have the male babes single topic, eh?
~MarciaH #203
yeah.. it is. (I did not know you were Canadian, Terry!)
~terry #204
I'm not Canadian, I'm from St. Louis, MO.
~MarciaH #205
but you end your sentences in a certain way, eh? I know you are from St Louis, MO! I was behaving badly *;)
~AotearoaKiwi #206
Hi all Here is my list of babes in no particular order: Julie Shek Marcia Margarita Parra Cobaleda Julie Gilbert Kristin Dewey Rob
~MarciaH #207
Oh you are specific! Hmmmmm wonder when a list will appear with pictures.... I'm sure they are worthy!
~autumn #208
I must be getting old--I only know one of those women! (and she is a fox!)
~AotearoaKiwi #209
Hi all You aren't supposed to recognise them. Julie Shek is from Scotland and the first person overseas to invite me to visit Marcia's charm and grace speaks as well as her good knowledge of NZ for itself. Need I say more? Margarita helped me at University in first year geography and in turn I introduced her to some aspects of NZ culture Julie Gilbert is my match in volcanoes and faults. I finally think I have found someone in my age group who knows as much or more than I do about them. First overseas friend who is a self confessed Neil Finn addict.
~AotearoaKiwi #210
Hi all That should be Kristin Dewey is my first overseas friend who is a Neil Finn addict
~MarciaH #211
Guess I'd better be a good girl and search for who Neil Finn is. Oh well, I tried with a classical CD (unhappily, a very old re-recording) - and I happen to have an active volcano. *Sigh* No, unless they are celebrities for whom you lust openly (see other topics in this conference) we try not to identify some of the listees. You DO know you are on my list, of course. Is this the first Babe-hood you have been granted?
~wolf #212
ooooh, he chooses real life babes!
~MarciaH #213
*ahem* I think others of us have been known to chose a few real life ones here and there. Check back, Wolfie *blush*
~wolf #214
i know sweetie *HUGS*
~MarciaH #215
Greg, as soon as Terry enables my FTP protocol on Spring I'l post the Faith Hill pix you sent. She's sooooo gorgeous and they are so normal...*sigh* They seem to have it all. *Hint* *Hint* Terry. If you want to see Faith Hill, enable me!
~terry #216
You got it.
~MarciaH #217
Thanks and HUGS!
~MarciaH #218
I'll email you...... still having difficulties.
~terry #219
Here's a titillating top 99 list. http://www.askmen.com/women/2002_top_99/99.html And she's 99th!
~terry #220
From the above source. overall rating 81 Garcelle Beauvais' career is booming right now. After a successful run on The Jamie Foxx show as Francesca "Fancy" Monroe, she got an audition and landed a spot on NYPD Blue as Valerie Heywood, an ADA. Though it's the most important role of her life, it is among her least glamorous since ADAs are not known for wearing makeup.
~terry #221
Number 98: Denise Richards. Last Year's Ranking: 19 See Our Last List: Top 50 Most Beautiful Women WHERE YOU KNOW HER FROM... She made out with Neve Campbell in Wild Things and was a Bond girl in The World Is Not Enough. THE PERFECT DATE... A wild party with flowing champagne and Neve Campbell.
~MarciaH #222
Doesn't appeal to me, but call me picky! I like Faith Hill much better and she is too much of a lady to do any of the above. Alas, so am I...
~wolf #223
she was in some stupid space movie too (and is going to marry charlie sheen)
~autumn #224
I'm sure they deserve each other.
~MarciaH #225
Exactly what I was thinking!
~terry #226
I remember that space movie, had a lot of bugs in it. I'm going to have to start a separate topic for "The Women of Coupling" It's a bbc tv series I becoming addicted to watching. I'm watching the episode where she shows up with nothing under her coat and it turns out her new boyfriend isn't alone, he's invited a whole party full of folks over. Anyway, back to the countdown. The envelope please. WHERE YOU KNOW HER FROM... Not even 21 yet, Mandy Moore already has chart-topping singles such as "Candy" and starred in A Walk To Remember. ICE CREAM FLAVOR SHE WOULD LIKELY BE... Mandy's Candy. In my Pocket from http://www.mandymoore.com
~wolf #227
she's also in Princess Diaries and a couple of other flicks (including a walk to remember)
~terry #228
Did you like Princes Diaries, wolfie?
~wolf #229
yes i did!! my daughter and i have watched it several times!
~terry #230

Rob better be very careful if he posts his list - He did, before some of the present ladies came into his life.
~terry #232
OK number 95 is overdue. WHERE YOU KNOW HER FROM... This Buffy the Vampire Slayer starred on the big screen in Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer. SHE MAKES US WANNA... Become an extra on her TV show so that she can slay and whip us. from www.smgfan.com Fan testimonial of the week: "Sarah is the epitome of class, grace and talent. She is true to herself and there is nothing more attractive than that. Plus she totally kicks ass!" Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/30/02: "Sarah is an incredibly talented actress with the ability to completely draw you into the show/movie. She does this so well that you sometimes forget that she is just playing a character. It is not often you can find an actor/actress who can perform comedy and drama equally well. No matter what this beautiful, young, intelligent woman decides to do with her life, I am sure she will do it with gusto, and I wish her the best in all that she does." Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/23/02: "Sarah has taught us all that we can be anything that we aspire to be. She has worked hard to be who she is today and for that she earns our respect. She is truly one of a kind!" Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/16/02: "Sarah Michelle Gellar has inspired me and others like me to do better in our lives. She's more than just an actress, she's a wonderful, talented and very smart person. I'm so glad to have someone like her to look up to." Fan testimonial of the week ending 3/09/02: "Sarah Michelle Gellar is a wonderful young woman, an inspiration to all, and very talented and pretty. She always puts 110% into whatever she is doing, and makes the characters she plays come into reality. She makes them seem real." Fan testimonial of the week ending 2/23/02: "Sarah is more than an actress, she is an inspiration. She and the character she plays on television are both strong independent women who know what they want and go for it with 110%. Sarah does what she wants and doesn't care what other people think of it. She seems very caring and helps others who are less fortunate than she is. She doesn't degrade herself and her body by being forced into awkwark positions, she respects herself and those around her. She is the reason i stared doing theater work and acting, so that i could become like her, help people who really need it and be a role model to young girls everywhere." Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/26/02: "Sarah is a beautiful talented actress, with a heart of gold. A great role model for kids, always concerned with the well being of others." Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/19/02: "It's amazing how much positive influence a tv-show or one character can have on your life. First I just liked Sarah Michelle for her role in Buffy but soon I got to realize what an incredibly intelligent, brave, committed, and hard-working woman she must be. Simply amazing." Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/12/02: "I used to watch a lot of tv shows, and they were fine. But then one night I saw a show called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and ever since then, every show suffers in comparison. Its not enough that Sarah is beautiful and has an emotional range that I've never seen before. The entire cast and writers combine to not only produce a show that is fun to watch, but one that makes you think." Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/05/02: "I never thought that I would do this...write into some fan club about how much I enjoy a show or an actress in a show...but here I am. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a perfect "Buffy". As Buffy she is strong, she is beautiful, and she does at least one good deed a day...The program gives me excitement, suspense, and a whole lot of comedy. I love the program and I just want everyone to know that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great show and that Sarah Michelle Gellar does a wonderful job of portraying this character."
~MarciaH #233
is THAT who she is?! I've never seen her series. I'd druther talk to Greece or New Zealand or wherever really cute guys are. I guess I am just weird.
~wolf #234
she's getting married to freddie prinze junior
~AotearoaKiwi #235
Hi all *YAWN*. Sexy looks make me relatively indifferent when my friends ideals are to die for. List of Babes here is not all that long and none of you will have met them personally except for Marcia and maybe Julie (cascadeclimber). So my list as of April 27 2002 is: Julie ********** Marcia Margarita Parra-Cobaleda Marie Persson Brenda Boone Sandra Parra-Cobaleda (Margarita's younger sister) Julie (not the same one) Rob
~AotearoaKiwi #236
Hi all Just to clear a few things. They are based as much on personality and background as they are based on beauty. So it happens that two friends from Colombia are on the list because they come from a strife torn country where people fear for their lives daily, and because I think if everyone was like them, the world would be a VERY VERY different place. Their beauty really lies in where they are from and their upbringing. I am of the volcanologically-geologically-physical geography minded type as are to very similar extents both Julie and Marcia. The former has friends from all over the world as well and is a volcano fanatic of the first order. Rob
~AotearoaKiwi #237
Hi all Okay I will grant you one thing about Sarah Michelle Gellar. She has a nice smile. I don't watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and nor do I intend to. I don't follow Hollywood, the music industry and especially those *pop sensations*, all that well which is why I am not all that active here. I pay little attention to gossip, and Karen, that would be probably why the only messages from me go to the topic promoting other conferences. I know just enough not be antisocial in a conversation. Rob
~MarciaH #238
~MarciaH #239
Rob!!! Julie and I are consulting over your order of preference. Ok.. I demur to the lovely and vivacious cascadeclimber, But John is at the top of my list. ;p
~MarciaH #240
Sarah MG has bleached blond hair and heaven knows what else fake about her. Meow!
~MarciaH #241
Sheesh.. I am Below the starred line like some sort of low life below the salt in the good old days. I'll slink back to male babes and alter my list...
~AotearoaKiwi #242
Hi all Delete the stars or pretend they never existed. I modified my list last night. In no particular order Julie Marcia Margarita Parra-Cobaleda Sandra Parra-Cobaleda Marie Persson Brenda Boone Julie Shek Rob
~wolf #243
*ahem, wagging tail furiously* aren't you forgetting someone or do women of the canine family not fit the babes category? *TOOTHY GRIN*
~MarciaH #244
Best put Wolfie on there, Rob.... she really IS a babe! Despite all the wolfly teeth and drool, she is very dear and completely lovable!
~MarciaH #245
And... I have her picture - and NO I'm not going to post it!!!
~AotearoaKiwi #246
Hi all Modified at Wolfies request, I have changed the list again. As before I have put this in no particular order so don't feel disillusioned. Julie Marcia Sandra Parra-Cobaleda Margarita Parra-Cobaleda Wolfie Marie Persson Brenda Boone Julie Shek Rob
~wolf #247
*aw shucks* thanks rob *blush* (marcia, you are too good to me *HUGS*)
~MarciaH #248
All's well that ends well. You would not be disappointed in your choice of Wolfie for your list. Trust me on this one! *Hugs*
