Kinda like in ghostbusters where they get "slimmed"; can drooling be that
much different. Or maybe "slimming" is advanced level drooling?

slimmed? get skinny? or do you mean slimed? get slime all over you? *giggle*
drooling is not my style, not very attractive either-would indicate you have a slobber control problem and who'd wanna hang with someone like that?

My top 3 babes, at the moment, are the women who played the lead roles in
the NBC production of "Merlin". Coming on the heels of Eeyores birthday,
I was stirred by these ancient legends and the fine portrayals by these
outstanding actresses (quotes from NBCs website):
Isabella Rossellini as Nimue - Isabella Rossellini began her
career before the camera as a broadcast journalist for RAI-Italian
Television. At the relatively advanced age of 28, she became a model,
working with photographers such as Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Peter
Lindburgh and Steven Meisel. For fourteen years, she was the exclusive
model for Lancome cosmetics.
Rossellinis American film debut was opposite Mikhail Baryshnikov and
Gregory Hines in Taylor Hackfords White Nights (1985). In 1986, she
starred opposite Dennis Hopper as Dorothy Vallens, the tortured lounge
singer, in David Lynchs haunting and controversial Blue Velvet. Other
films include the romantic comedy Cousins (opposite Ted Danson) and Wild
at Heart (also from David Lynch). In 1992, she was featured in Death
Becomes Her, opposite Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis, and
Fearless, opposite Jeff Bridges and Rosie Perez. She starred as Big Nose
Kate in Lawrence Kasdans Wyatt Earp (opposite Kevin Costner and Dennis
Quaid), and in Immortal Beloved with Gary Oldman. Most recently,
Rossellini starred as a two-timing girlfriend in Big Night, co-directed by
Stanley Tucci and Campbell Scott, which won Best Screenplay at the 1996
Sundance Film Festival; and in Abel Ferraras The Funeral.
Miranda Richardson as Mab -
One of the most versatile actresses working today, Miranda Richardson has
received accolades for her work in film, television and on stage. A native
of Lancashire, England, she originally aspired to be a veterinary surgeon.
However, animals lost a fine doctor when she decided to go to drama school
and was accepted by the Bristol Old Vic Theater School. Graduation was
followed by several years of repertory theater. While playing in The Life
of Einstein at the Dukes Playhouse in Lancaster, director Mike Newell cast
her as Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in England in Dance with a
Stranger. Although not a box office success, the film garnered her several
British film awards and brought Richardson to the attention of Steven
Spielberg, who cast her in his WWII epic Empire of the Sun. A myriad of
film roles followed, including Enchanted April (1992), for which she
received her first Golden Globe Award (Best Actress in a Comedy), Neil
Jordans controversial The Crying Game (1992), Damage (1992, Oscar
nomination - Best Actress), Tom and Viv (1994, Golden Globe nomination -
Best Film Actress), Robert Altmans Kansas City (1996) and The Evening Star
(1996) opposite Shirley MacLaine. She will also play the voice of Anna in
Warner Bros. animated version of The King & I.
and Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan Le Fey - From her debut as the teenage
Queen of England in 1985s Lady Jane, Helena Bonham Carter has bewitched
audiences with her remarkable talent and a beauty that seems to be drawn
from an Edwardian painting. Time magazines Richard Corliss has called her
" ... our modern antique goddess."
A native of London, Bonham Carter is the great-granddaughter of H.H.
Asquith, who served as Englands Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916. Her
father was a Harvard-educated banker, and her mother a psychotherapist.
Bonham Carter was accepted at Cambridge University, but after landing the
lead in Lady Jane at eighteen, decided to pursue acting as a career. Her
next film (and the first of four she has made based on E.M. Forster
novels), A Room with a View, first brought her to the attention of
American audiences. She has also starred in The Vision (1987), Francesco
(1989), Kenneth Branaghs Hamlet (1990), Howards End (1992), Mary Shelleys
Frankenstein (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Twelfth Night (1996).
Bonham Carter is currently garnering rave reviews for two new films, Keep
the Aspidistra Flying (written by George Orwell) and The Wings of the Dove
(based on a Henry James novel). For American television, Bonham Carter
starred as Marina Oswald, wife of Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, in
the NBC movie Fatal Deception (1993).

reyanne and ricky were castmembers from My So-Called Life. Man did things get

also played the mother of the little boy that Coach adopted on the sitcom Coach.
You there? Got it?

doesn't all the janet reno bashing you

You are right, Nick, of course it is because she's a woman and doesn't meet the accepted standard for female beauty. But it doesn't matter if a man is ugly, fat or bald. (BTW, nice to see you--I've missed you!!)
~riette
Fri, Oct 23, 1998 (02:07)

We could post all those fat baldies into drool - sure the ladies over there will love 'em!
I'm sure people only become ugly, fat or bald if they act ugly, fat and bald.

i think the thing with janet reno isn't just
her (evident, i admit) lack of beauty... i can
think of any number of female public figures
similarly, ummmm, challenged... what really
sets people off about her is a couple of things,
but mainly that she "acts like a man"... she
projects an unapologetic toughness that still
isn't entirely socially acceptable for women...
just about every redneck i know (and i seem to know
inordinate numbers of them) is convinced she's
a lesbian, which may or may not be true, and is
of course entirely irrelevent, except that it
demonstrates the depth of the problem... (yahoo-ism
being alive and well in austin, tx., and most
everywhere else, i suspect)... it's a little
troubling, though, and puzzling too, when i hear
such comments emanating from women... regardless
of one's political orientation, janet reno has been
at least an adequate attorney general, i think, and
that she's maintained her dignity throughout speaks
well for her... (VERY well, considering the venomous
and personal nature of the ridicule she's endured)...
(good to see you, too, autumn)

SNL has been merciless with her over the years.
~autumn

You make a very good point, Nick, that it's the combination of her un-feminine appearance and conduct that draws criticism (which brings out the lowest comon denominator in most men: "she must be a lesbian.") Women can either look tough or act tough, but not both.
~sonja

I agree whole heartedly. And as far as I'm concerned there is only human sexuality. Homo, Lesbian, are words of no signifigance really. Humans are sexual beings, and should enjoy being sexual beings - that is all that matters.

Madeline Stowe is a classical beauty--and she can act. I've often wondered what she was doing married to Brian Benben, but that just proves she isn't shallow since she is both better looking and probably richer than he is. He did play a stud-muffin loser (an oxymoron?) in "Dream On," but he is funny. So she must have a great sense of humor, as well. Now that I've answered that question, I no longer wonder what she is doing with Brian Benben. If one doubts her smoldering sexuality watch "Stakeout," "U
lawful Entry," and "The Last of the Mohicans." If you are still unconvinced; get some glasses. Wolf's point on Mariah Carey is well-taken. She does play the diva to the hilt. I also don't care that much for her music. She has a fabulous voice and could be what Aretha Franklin was, music wise, but chooses instead to be a pop tart. But still, there's no denying that the gene pool made her something to look at.

Are you talking about Mariah Carey or Madeline Stowe, because you hadn't mentioned Mariah (my number one) before. YOu just questioned my choice of Madeline (number five). By the way, the order of these and even who is in them is subjective and changeable upon mood and whim. I wish I knew how to import a photo or two into here. I've tried, but have been unsuccessful.

Wolf,
With all due respect, no I didn't. Although I have tremendous respect for her acting talent (even though I must admit "The English Patient" bored me to tears--not an easy admission if you wish to be seen as cerebral--I did love her in "Damage"), she'd make my top 100 on babeosity, which isn't bad, but isn't anywhere near the top five. Tia makes my list because I coached her in Bobby Sox softball 20 some years ago, when I was still on Oahu. She was Althea then (I can't remember her real last name off th
top of my head), but even then, at age 11 or so, there was something about her. The list is subjective, different on a daily basis, and the difference of everyone's list is what makes it cool. You can't see Mariah Carey on it, Terry can't see Madeline Stowe...I love healthy disagreement.

I do not think women are the best judge of what makes men go for certain women over others just as men can't figure what the lure of CF is for so many of us. It is just one of those things.

I can understand the allure of Colin Firth. It's Kevin Costner that I don't get. He's been in some fine movies, but generally that wasn't because of him. His one great claim to fame on his own merit is "Dances With Wolves," and I have to admit--great flick, KC or no KC. But it's the only project he's initiated that really worked.

just teasing mrchips!! i think top 5 is too short a list. and just the opposite of you, john, i CAN see the allure of kevin over firth *grin* didn't care for the english patient either. the film that captured my attention of her and ralph fiennes *drool* was A&E's wuthering heights.
my lists are forever changing but the fundamentals of what makes a babe (drool) for me doesn't. my selections have a lot to do with character.
you worked with tia? that's so darned cool. i liked her in, yeah, you're gonna flip, but wayne's world!! didn't know she could sing.
i must say that you have good taste, john! not the "bubble-headed bleach blondes" or however that line goes *grin*

Fiennes--and his brother too, are both terrific actors. The amazing thing to me about Juliette Binoche is how adept she is in English vernacular and accent although she's French. And she's not hard on the ocular nerves, either...

Feinnes...Bah humbug! Why does Colin Firth always have to take a subsidiary role to those brothers? He was the cuckold in TEP to "Rafe" and in SiL to Joseph. I hear they have a younger brother...too terrible to contemplate!
JB is ok... I thought she was cute and talented. I wish they had played up that love story as the book did more than the other one, but...!

Thanks for your comiseration. There are a whole bunch of Firthians in Drool who would like to sit down with this man and fire his agent. In perfectly dreadful movies, he still manages to pull out a performance worthy of his talent, but is is almost never worthy of the effort. If you have not yet seen Fever Pitch, and get the chance (I have the PAL conversion) please see it. It is amazing, but still not Darcy. I can have top five babes?

"When Capone puts one of yours in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue. That's the Chicago way."
The Untouchables!! Great film and shot right here. Famous shot of entire group standing in middle of street was right in front of where I worked.
Connery uses full Scottish burr in that one, despite the fact his character is supposed to be Irish. I can always hear it even when he's supposed to be a right proper Englishman. I don't think he has tried to hide it for many years.
I also liked The Hunt for Red October, The Name of the Rose (or was it the book I liked??), and Marnie.
And Marcia, your praise is going to make me *blush* Have to go, my one-day pass out of Drool is expiring. ;-D

I was less impressed with "The Untouchables" than Wolf was. To me, Costner just doesn't make it as a tough guy...Wyatt Earp was another example of that. "Tombstone" ten times better, and so was Kurt Russell's Earp. But Val Kilmer as a Coleridge quoting, laudenum quaffing, tuberculosis coughing Doc Holliday was classic! Back to "The Untouchables," Connery was terrific, burr and all. I still knew he was going to get blown away when he said "Just like a (racist expletive for Italian) to bring a knife to
a gunfight!"

I now remember Tia Carrere's real given name...as I mentioned, when I coached her in softball she was 11 (1976). She was Althea Janairo. Graduated 1983: Sacred Hearts H.S. in Honolulu. Not only has singing talent to go with looks, but brains, too. Could have done well in college, but was "discovered" in Zane's IGA in Honolulu (Kaimuki) by the mother of a movie producer. She showed her brains by marrying a rich, young, handsome real estate developer in California. Would have loved to make the wedding
but, *sniff* I wasn't invited. I haven't seen her since she was a child.

Hi all
You aren't supposed to recognise them.
Julie Shek is from Scotland and the first person overseas to invite me to visit
Marcia's charm and grace speaks as well as her good knowledge of NZ for itself. Need I say more?
Margarita helped me at University in first year geography and in turn I introduced her to some aspects of NZ culture
Julie Gilbert is my match in volcanoes and faults. I finally think I have found someone in my age group who knows as much or more than I do about them.
First overseas friend who is a self confessed Neil Finn addict.

Guess I'd better be a good girl and search for who Neil Finn is. Oh well, I tried with a classical CD (unhappily, a very old re-recording) - and I happen to have an active volcano. *Sigh*
No, unless they are celebrities for whom you lust openly (see other topics in this conference) we try not to identify some of the listees. You DO know you are on my list, of course. Is this the first Babe-hood you have been granted?

Garcelle Beauvais' career is booming right now. After a successful run on The Jamie Foxx show as Francesca "Fancy" Monroe, she got an audition and landed a spot on NYPD Blue as Valerie Heywood, an ADA. Though it's the most important role of her life, it is among her least glamorous since ADAs are not known for wearing makeup.

Fan testimonial of the week: "Sarah is the epitome of class, grace and
talent. She is true to herself and there is nothing more attractive than
that. Plus she totally kicks ass!"
Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/30/02: "Sarah is an incredibly
talented actress with the ability to completely draw you into the
show/movie. She does this so well that you sometimes forget that she is
just playing a character. It is not often you can find an actor/actress
who can perform comedy and drama equally well. No matter what this
beautiful, young, intelligent woman decides to do with her life, I am sure
she will do it with gusto, and I wish her the best in all that she does."
Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/23/02: "Sarah has taught us all that
we can be anything that we aspire to be. She has worked hard to be who she
is today and for that she earns our respect. She is truly one of a kind!"
Fan testimonial of the week ended 3/16/02: "Sarah Michelle Gellar has
inspired me and others like me to do better in our lives. She's more than
just an actress, she's a wonderful, talented and very smart person. I'm so
glad to have someone like her to look up to."
Fan testimonial of the week ending 3/09/02: "Sarah Michelle Gellar is a
wonderful young woman, an inspiration to all, and very talented and
pretty. She always puts 110% into whatever she is doing, and makes the
characters she plays come into reality. She makes them seem real."
Fan testimonial of the week ending 2/23/02: "Sarah is more than an
actress, she is an inspiration. She and the character she plays on
television are both strong independent women who know what they want and
go for it with 110%. Sarah does what she wants and doesn't care what other
people think of it. She seems very caring and helps others who are less
fortunate than she is. She doesn't degrade herself and her body by being
forced into awkwark positions, she respects herself and those around her.
She is the reason i stared doing theater work and acting, so that i could
become like her, help people who really need it and be a role model to
young girls everywhere."
Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/26/02: "Sarah is a beautiful talented
actress, with a heart of gold. A great role model for kids, always
concerned with the well being of others."
Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/19/02: "It's amazing how much positive
influence a tv-show or one character can have on your life. First I just
liked Sarah Michelle for her role in Buffy but soon I got to realize what
an incredibly intelligent, brave, committed, and hard-working woman she
must be. Simply amazing."
Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/12/02: "I used to watch a lot of tv
shows, and they were fine. But then one night I saw a show called "Buffy
the Vampire Slayer" and ever since then, every show suffers in comparison.
Its not enough that Sarah is beautiful and has an emotional range that
I've never seen before. The entire cast and writers combine to not only
produce a show that is fun to watch, but one that makes you think."
Fan testimonial of the week ended 1/05/02: "I never thought that I would
do this...write into some fan club about how much I enjoy a show or an
actress in a show...but here I am. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a perfect
"Buffy". As Buffy she is strong, she is beautiful, and she does at least
one good deed a day...The program gives me excitement, suspense, and a
whole lot of comedy. I love the program and I just want everyone to know
that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great show and that Sarah Michelle
Gellar does a wonderful job of portraying this character."

Hi all
Just to clear a few things. They are based as much on personality and background as they are based on beauty. So it happens that two friends from Colombia are on the list because they come from a strife torn country where people fear for their lives daily, and because I think if everyone was like them, the world would be a VERY VERY different place. Their beauty really lies in where they are from and their upbringing.
I am of the volcanologically-geologically-physical geography minded type as are to very similar extents both Julie and Marcia. The former has friends from all over the world as well and is a volcano fanatic of the first order.

Hi all
Okay I will grant you one thing about Sarah Michelle Gellar. She has a nice smile. I don't watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and nor do I intend to. I don't follow Hollywood, the music industry and especially those *pop sensations*, all that well which is why I am not all that active here. I pay little attention to gossip, and Karen, that would be probably why the only messages from me go to the topic promoting other conferences. I know just enough not be antisocial in a conversation.
