GNNWorks -- A rapidly improving web browser that allows access to multiple pages at the same time, the web browser is by far the best app included in this suite. Integrated Newsreader, IRC, and mail clients also add value to GNNWorks. GNNWorks sports a very American Online-esque look, which is no surprise considering Navisoft, Inc. (a subsidiary of America Online) now owns Booklink Technologies, the maker of GNNWorks. GNNWorks is OLE 2.0 compliant and includes the unique card catalog system -- an interesting variation on the common bookmarking feature. Users also have the ability to split the screen and monitor multiple sites at the same time and on the same screen. The card catalog system offers quick and easy access to previous web sites, a real benefit with GNNWork's multiple windows capability. The web browser offers excellent features including advanced tables support, mailto and forms support, caching, and security. The mail, IRC, and news clients are all more than adequate but not quite as solid as some of the best standalone clients available. Interested users can either use their own winsock stacks or use the one included with GNNWorks (if you choose the latter, you must first send mail to obtain a password and certification number). Two of the few negatives to GNNWorks are an inability to match Netscape's speed and multitude of features (advanced HTML tags like font size, frames, and multiple windows) and that the integration of clients isn't as solid as that of Emissary (each client must be loaded in a separate window). Pros: Feature-rich web browser; integrated mail, chat, and Newsreader utilities Cons: Lacks Netscape's speed and features, not as effectively integrated as Emissary New: Integrated Newsreader, chat, and mail clients, New web support for tables Version Reviewed: 1.20 Release 32e Date of Review: 11/13/95 Reviewer: Forrest Stroud apps conference Main Menu
