The following is a quote from this Sunday's New York Times (www.nytimes.com free registration required.) Colin Firth commenting on his role in 1000 Acres: "To be a man in a movie written about women, from a woman's point of view, "isdifficult," admits Mr. Firth, who plays the Cooks' dashing neighbor who seduces Ginny and Rose. "I noticed this when I was playing Darcy in Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' " on television in January, he said. "As an actor, you have to create your own story, your own reasons for what's happening. I can't play the Jess character as Ms. Smiley has written him because she's only given me the externals."

I agree about the externals with all my heart! And I am even more looking forward to the experience of what Firth has done with/made of Jess. Is there more to be read on this subject somewhere Ann?

Can you imagine that - a Colin speaks with an American accent. They must really appreciate his telent to go out of limb cast a british actor for the role. I guess Michelle Phieffer has caught Darcy mania too. Zimei

I'm wondering if P&P has, in essence, launched Firth's career, in spite of the fact that he was VERY reluctant to accept the role at first. Does anyone know what his true personality is like? Is he likeable, or is he suffering from a swelled ego after all this attention?
