Well, Autumn, we are both right. Lexicon is a synonym for dictionary and thesaurus. In fact, the second definition of thesaurus, is dictionary.

That is surprising! The type of thesaurus I've always used doesn't give definitions, other than a "shared meaning element." Pretty vague and not what I would rely on to get the nuance of a word, myself.

I've got an idea. Not the only meaning, but one meaning for 'lexicon' listed in this dictionary I'm looking at, says, "the vocabulary of a language, an individual speaker or group of speakers, or a subject". Let's say the subject is 'synonym'. Then 'lexicon' could be listed as part of a vocabulary of 'synonym'. Let's say the subject is 'paint'. Then 'brush' could be listed as part of a vocabulary of 'paint'. But 'brush' is not a synonym for 'paint'. 'Vocabulary' is different from 'synonym', although words in a vocabulary could be synonyms. Looks, with this particular meaning, like synonyms are a kind of vocabulary. Maybe synonyms are a kind of lexicon, like maybe antonyms are a kind of lexicon. I would look at it like 'lexicon' is too general a word to fit into a list of synonyms for synonym, similar to how the word vocabulary would be too general for fitting on that list, like how astronomy is too general to fit on a list of synonyms for solar system. But that's looking at only one meaning of lexicon. And this is only one person's viewpoint. Please recall, my viewpoint is a cough of steam rising in the mist of (mis)de(mean)or.
