Conceived by a coalition of universities, government institutions and
high-tech businesses, Internet2 is the sequel to the Internet. The goals
of I2 are simple: Take today's Internet to the next level and give I2
members a new, powerful way to communicate and share information.
Although I2 is going to be the semi-private network of its members,
once the technology has been developed it will be used to upgrade the
existing Internet.
