Bridget Jones's Diary - nowhere near the edge of reason (Part 5)

Right. My browser kept timing out at about the 750th post on Part 4 and so I will start part 5 and put my 2 in... After watching Bridget Jones' Diary several times on cable, I have come up with the following impressions: i: The character of Mark D'Arcy has begun to remind me of the Beatles' song "Help!" He lives in the shadow of his parents and his law partner Natasha who treats him like a dog. He is in serious need of therapy, or maybe he's in serious need of madness... Wait a minute... who has worse taste in clothes, Bridget's mum, or Mark's mum who buys him all those ridiculous Christmas gifts (reindeer jumper, snowman tie...) ii: Daniel Cleaver is perfectly described by Bridget in the beginning of the movie; what was it? "Alcoholic, workaholic, ..., pervert and..."? But how can you dislike someone who recites dirty limericks in romantic settings and parodies Titanic? The ultimate seducer, the devil incarnate, perhaps? iii: Mark and Bridget are Bridget's parents all over again: semi-normal man and completely bizarre woman who make it work because they complete each other. iv: The fight scene: Hard to imagine John Wayne or Clint Eastwood perpetually apologizing to the other diners for interrupting their meals during a brawl, or to call a truce to sing "Happy Birthday, Dear Whatsisname", but it is interesting to note that, throughout the fight, Mark hits hard and Daniel fights dirty... Also, how common is it for a barrister and a publisher to be brawling in the street? Wouldn't that sort of thing make headlines in The Sun or The Daily Mirror or something like that? Another of the Great Romantic Comedies, to put right beside Murphy's Romance ("Yep, they're really hanging over the back fences now!"), Notting Hill ("Do actors normally go for better bottoms than their own?") and You've Got Mail ("Oh, no; she's beautiful, but she's a PILL!")...
