Tom Waits is a very fascinating musician and arrangeur. His compositions are rather unusual, and have their roots in blues, rock, waltzes, etc. Also, the imagery his music provokes is quite interesting - the dark and strange, the absurd and grotesque.

Hmh, above does not look like very inspired writing, but then - there are better days, and there are the others. And that's the days Waits stuff is about. After his move from label Island Rec. to Epitaph, he has a brand new CD out soon, which is called Mule Variations. It is very interesting work this CD presents, Waits still does IT the way he always DID.

*pant, pant* I love his gravelly voice! I bet I've played his "Anthology" more than any other single CD I own. Here's a link Jim turned me onto: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/7587/start.html What's your favorite TW song, Alexander?

I love the "BIG TIME" album. Saw the concert movie, too. It's hard to say what single song I love the most. Gotta play some of his stuff again... But hey! I've got the new album! Great rooster, among other virtues...

I will have to keep my eyes open for that. (I positively cringe whenever I hear Bruce Springsteen sing "Jersey Girl".)

i cringe when i hear all those Jersey girls in Austin sing Springsteen ---for some reason they wanna do it by trying to sound like Tom ---Tom wants them to sound like him too ---he cringes when he sees me cringe ---so then i have to cringe at him ---the Jersey girls leave with Bruce and he shows them how Tom sleeps at night ---see, it's different from how he sleeps at day

And nashing of teeth as well, no doubt.
