There's something new on the Internet music scene called Napster. It's creating a storm of controversty. It lets you share MP3 effortlessly, with any else that has Napster. Will this kill the music industry or will it help the musicians cut out the middlemen?

Terry, the stuff this 700MHz sucks in is amazing. I did dowload and share files on Napster - everything from the ZMoody Blues and Eric Clapton to Batuibak Anthems (I collect them) to Penn State (yeah, I know) stuff and calassical stuff. The fidelity knoxcks your socks off. Nothing sturrs my soul quite as deeply as a Welsh Men's Choir. However, JOhn Burnett and I had a discussion of the ethical rights to royalties on one's own creations, so I have ceased and desisted, though it broke my heart...

http://www.napster.com will get you there. Then hit the search button and dowload. several downloads later you will notice someone is uploading from your downloads. It is really a neat idea! However, I feel terrible about cheating the artists of their due. Record companies have long ago gotten their pounds of flesh!

http://fullcoverage.yahoo.com/fc/Tech/Digital_Music/ Napster Hearing Ends with No Decision (Reuters) - High-tech upstart Napster Inc. faced off against the giant U.S. recording industry in federal appeals court Monday, submitting legal arguments in a historic case to determine the future of copyright protection in the Internet age. The three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco made no immediate decision on a request by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for a ban on Napster -- meaning the wildly popular Internet song swap service can stay in business for at least the next few weeks.
