What?!?!?! What is the w-command? What do you do with it? And what are all these codes on my screen?
~terry Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (06:33) #3
The w command shows who logs in to the shell and how long they hung around. Are you going to make a shell debut, Riette?
~terry Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (06:49) #4
I acutally meant for this topic to be called the last command, so I'll change it.

I'll make a shell debut, but I don't know how or what it is! Oh, Terry, you are so confusing!
~terry Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (12:22) #7
What's confusing to you?
~riette Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (13:13) #8
Everything, just everything! Sometimes you speak English, and then, without a warning in the world, you switch to computer language. And all this talk about shells! What CAN it be? And you won't answer my questions in English either. Just more of those confusing codes, and I can't work it out at all.
~stacey Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (13:55) #9
no more lurking, eh? Now EVERYBODY knows who visited and when!
~terry Tue, Jul 21, 1998 (15:35) #10
Just in the shell. If anyone objects, I won't publish these stats. Riette, you'll need this: ftp://ftp.vandyke.com/pub/CRT/ntcrt22.exe Click on the above link or paste it into your browser. Then save it on your hard dirve and click on it. Then await further instructions.
~riette Wed, Jul 22, 1998 (01:34) #11
Okay, I'm doing it, but it seems huge! Won't it eat up all my computer's memory?
~terry Wed, Jul 22, 1998 (05:52) #12
Nope, downloads don't eat up memory. They do cut in to your *hard drive space" or *storage* which is vastly different that memory, my sweet. When you click on the "c:\" icon when you run Explorer how much disk space does it say you have left? Do you know how many mbs of hard disk space you have remaining. There are several ways to find this out if you need help with this.
~riette Wed, Jul 22, 1998 (06:43) #13
My computer doesn't have a c:/ icon thing. And which is one of the several ways of finding out about how many mbs (memory bites or what?) I've got left? I think when I got it it hat 32 whatevers of hard drive space. I only intended it for typing text and surfing the net, and e-mailing, not all these weird things. And, by the way that download DID eat everything up, so I aborted mission.
~terry Wed, Jul 22, 1998 (08:49) #14
You're low on disk space! Time for a good housekeeping!
~riette Wed, Jul 22, 1998 (12:27) #15
I dust my computer every day, thank you very much!

I be here, but I'm heading out soon.
~riette Sat, Aug 29, 1998 (01:08) #26
So when is this big date of ours going to be?
~terry Sat, Aug 29, 1998 (17:03) #27
You pick it ree.
~riette Sun, Aug 30, 1998 (02:04) #28
Me?! I can't - I'm the only one on this side of the world! You can't all arrange your time around me, I have to arrange mine around you. So make suggestions, and I'll see which one I can make.
~terry Sun, Aug 30, 1998 (11:47) #29
OK, 6 pm on the 6th 7 pm on the 7th 8 pm on the 8th 9 pm on the 9th 10 pm on the 10th These are all CST.
~riette Mon, Aug 31, 1998 (01:32) #30
Is CST your time, or mine?
~terry Mon, Aug 31, 1998 (09:45) #31
CST.
~riette Mon, Aug 31, 1998 (12:39) #32
That doesn't answer my question. I'll rephrase: Is CST the time displayed on the conference?
~wolf Mon, Aug 31, 1998 (20:53) #33
CST is our time riette, i believe you guys are something like 7 hours ahead. and i'll tell you in a minute if the time posted is the time here...
~wolf Mon, Aug 31, 1998 (20:54) #34
that would be our time here in Central Daylight Time. You guys might actually be 8 hours ahead from us and 7 hours ahead on the east coast....
~riette Tue, Sep 1, 1998 (01:08) #35
Okay, thanks, Wolf. I think it is 7 hours difference between here and the spring. Any chance of making the Big Date at 16:00, instead of later? Chris gets a little cranky when I mess about with the computer keys all night, and so I use night time to work and do designs QUIETLY, and without giggling or growling. If not, then it's okay too. I might just pop in briefly, and catch up the next morning.
~riette Tue, Sep 1, 1998 (01:09) #36
Oh, Terry, NOW I know what you meant - I'm so slow!! CST means Central Spring Time, right?
~terry Tue, Sep 1, 1998 (01:09) #37
Sure, how about posting a revised sked, Ree Head?
~riette Wed, Sep 2, 1998 (01:14) #38
Fourish every day would be fine for me. But if that doesn't suit the rest of you, just go ahead without me - don't want to stop it from happening just because I live in an awkward time zone.
~KitchenManager Mon, Sep 7, 1998 (19:11) #39
it's seven, where's everyone? (sorry I missed yesterday, will miss tomorrow also...)
