***************** December Outlook ***************** Astrology overview: there's a partial eclipse, sort of like a minor, tiny one in early Capricorn, on the big day. That's something to look forward to because it certainly won't be popping out from any Yule Log, or from under a tree, or whatever your year end tradition [or winter solstice] dictates. Jupiter is still windmilling backward through the very early degrees of Gemini. Saturn is still in Taurus at the late degrees, Mars spends most of the month comfortably accommodated in Libra, but at the last minute, he does slip into Scorpio. It will prove to be an interesting round up to this year, perhaps the best way to describe it is getting the year end stuff done a little ahead of time, and getting a good launch on the new year just a tad bit early. Aries : There are some pretty well defined peaks this month. Unfortunately, this is like looking out of a fishing camp high in the Rocky Mountains, on one of those summer mornings when it's pretty hard to guess that it's really summer time because it's so cold. There's a heavy frost on the ground, and the clouds have rolled in. To be sure, there's a pristine clarity, way overhead as the mountain tops soar to hold up the sky. But down around the camp itself, it's pretty cold and foggy. Don't worry, it's a wet cold, and it seeps into everything. So while there are some definite high points this month, there seems to be a lot of mornings that are just like that fishing camp in the mountains. Cold, wet, miserable. I wouldn't want to paint myself into a corner, and with some of the the little uplifting astrological events month, you're going to see yourself doing rather well at certain points, certain little astrological mile markers. There's one in the first week, one in the second week, one in the third week, as you can see, it's not just a single mountain peak you're looking at, but a while range of mountains. And despite the bone chilling cold in the mornings, all month long, there's a break, almost every day as you tie on one of your home made flies, and position yourself by that alpine lake. Beautiful, big, hungry trout. So when nothing seems to warm you up, just remember that those mountain trout are some of the easiest fish to clean. Taurus : This is going to be a weird horoscope because I'm going to fly in the face of conventional astrology right now. Most folks are going to tell you about the holidays, the good stuff coming up, how you can be best spending your time attending to matters of a personal nature, and how romance is going to flourish. Skip it. Look at this the Fishing Guide to the Stars way, spend just a little extra time at the office. Some folks around here assume that my office is a boat, and that makes it easy for me to float off with work. And that's exactly the image I would suggest for you, floating away with what you do. There's some extra income that would certainly be welcome, and while money won't actually buy happiness, it does translate into a lot of presents which make a lot of other people happy right now. This is another long term planning time. While everyone else is still looking at the short run, the end of this month, I want my fine Taurus friends to keep looking for the end of the rainbow, which, unfortunately, doesn't really hit until sometime next month. So this month, the more work you're willing to do, the greater the rewards. Gemini : It's a pretty simple and straightforward month for Gemini, because Jupiter is still moving backwards in your sign. This gives an unsettling energy, like you can think of about two million tasks you should accomplish, but the highest priority winds up being a nap. It's like every afternoon this month is a lazy afternoon. You sit down at the computer to get some work done, and wind up thinking about sending out a holiday to e-mail and then you spend the rest of the afternoon looking for your Holiday artwork, and then you decide to design something in a graphics program, and you've wasted an entire afternoon, accomplishing exactly zero on the normal scale of "accomplished work index." On a Gemini sale, though, you've actually gotten a lot of little bits and pieces of your life tidied up -- it's just that this doesn't always translate to us lesser signs as something really momentous. So work with our way of looking at things, if you must. And don't worry about what the other signs are saying behind your back right now. Keep doing what you do best, and this month will eventually turn up some surprising results, it just might not be what everyone else was expecting out of you. Cancer : The holiday season is usually a time that's a little too busy, a little frantic, and a little strung out. Your month does begin like this, and while most holiday years go from bad to worse, there's a difference this time. There's an odd lift that starts on Christmas Eve, literally. Mars moves into a sign that he likes. And you like it, too, especially since this is going to take all the troublesome energy and soften it up a little. It's like playing with a string of Xmas lights, and trying to find that one which is causing the whole string not to flash just right. There's just one burnt out bulb that you've got find, and of course, that's why I suggest that you leave Xmas lights up year round. Following my decorating advice can save a lot of trouble this month. That burnt out bulb, that single little frustrating "thang" that's keeps your activities all in a dither this gets a sudden boost in the right direction. Just be careful when your good friend suggests that the easiest way to find that weak electrical leak is to hold the whole string underwater. Leo : Xmas in America is usually a good time, old friends show up, we all sit around the dinner table, and then we all get out of the house to go back to some old and familiar haunts, some places that perhaps, maybe, well, there's just a suggested that the old neighborhood has changed some. It ain't what it used to be. That's what this month is like, and there's a growing sense of dread that will accompany this month. To be sure, you're not going to be feeling it a lot all month, but there are certain times this month when there's a whisper in the back of your head, a little voice directed to your inner ear, suggesting that there is something amiss here. Part of this is a growing holiday season, and part of this is the attempt to return to traditional "family values" which some of us who always had it before really find amusing. Now, don't panic, but at some point this month, my most excellent Leo friend, you're going back to a place you knew as a child. Or a youngster, or even last month. And the place has changed. It's like a small suburban town I used to frequent, a short distance from what used to an excellent fishing hole. Overnight (more like 20 years), the town got "discovered" and there is square mile after square mile of apartments, condominiums and nary a trailer park to be seen, plowed under by suburban sprawl. It's sort of a sad note, seeing little bits and pieces of Americana and Texana eaten up like that. This hint of sadness floats in and out this month, and you might get a little melancholy when you realize that the old farmer who used to chase us out of his stock pond is gone, retired in some other location, living the easy life. At least he won't be coming after you with a scatter gun full of rock salt anymore. Think: do you really miss it that much? Virgo : I talk about romance for Virgo's, and three out of four of the ardent Virgo fans I've got write me pointed little notes suggesting that I am not very accurate since no matter what I write, there isn't even a blip on the horizon -- nothing on the radar screen of love. So I won't extol the virtues of seeing Venus move her happy self into Capricorn, nor will suggest that it's supposed to be a good time, even though, this is going to be a holiday season full of more cheer and nicer things than most. The deal is that it starts out a little rocky. It's as if you've lost that Xmas list which Virgo's are so famous for. In fact, you might have made a mistake and got the gift list, the wish list, and the OTHER list all confused. "Why, what's Kramer doing on my Xmas card list? He was supposed to get coal this month. Hard, small chunks of coal, especially after his horoscope...." No need to direct your early month ire at me. I'll promise, the closer we all get to the big holiday, you'll notice that there is a sudden turn in events, and all those forces which felt like they were opposing you, suddenly, you're going to notice that everything begins to line up a little bit better, a little bit more on your side, and then, beyond all hope (and worried about some fossil fuel headed my way), there's a good chance that there's a prurient romantic encounter headed your way. Libra : The effect of the eclipse is documented elsewhere. But the rest of the month is well documented here. It's a good time. No two ways about that. It's an interesting time, and the usual holiday cheer will abound in the Libra corner of the sky. To be sure, it's not really much due to planets which are in Libra, it's more due to other little things that are going on. It does indicate that there will be some more interesting times ahead, though. There is one bump in this happy Libra road, this month. That little upsetting piece of material is a like giant rock in the middle of your road to happiness. You'll be traveling along at a good clip, making good speed, having a fine old time, the sun is shining, the world is a happy place, and then, there's this little piece of dirt in the middle of your road. You stop the truck, get out and get prepared to kick the offending stone out of the way. All you do is hurt your big toe -- the rock doesn't move. Then, you get the block and tackle out of the truck's bed, maybe fire up the winch, and you're going to clear the road, once and for all. By the time you get this moved, it turns out to have an iceberg like quality to it -- there was about nine tenths of it below the surface. So be careful when you tackle that one obstacle; little problems this month can be major undertakings if you're not careful. But over all, this is a good month. Really. Just be careful when the package says, "some assembly required." Scorpio : It might be because Mars coincides with the time I show up at the family homestead for the holidays, but from that moment on, things are going to be wonderful in Scorpio. Mars and Scorpio go together like "fish and bait." Maybe there's another expression for that, but I like that first one just fine. So you don't have to worry about the eclipse thing, and about the time I'm heading back to the old homestead, just about the time I get to greet Ma Wetzel for the big holiday week of festivities and family fun, that's about the time everything gets just rosy and pink in Scorpio. Until I hit the road for my annual trip to the homestead, though, there's a certain degree of friction present in Scorpio. Rather, it's due to a somewhat innocuous meandering little planet, but you get the idea. So there's something to look forward to, it's just getting ready for the holiday might take a little more out of my fine Scorpio friends than they are wiling to give up. Most of this month is a time when a patient little outlook, perhaps some solitary work on your own project would be best. Then, holidays can be fun, and with Mars entering Scorpio right at the holiday, it will be like having me right back at the old homestead. Sagittarius : I've used this particular expression in readings before, one on one with clients, but I've never committed it to print., With the relative movement of the planets, though, it seems rather fitting. The month begins with a big bang, and looks like the party will last forever. But if you don't get your holiday preparations out of the way early, it might not be as great as you think. That expression I'm referring to goes like this... "You keep taking a step forward, but you look down, and you've got one of your boots nailed to the floor. Even though you keep taking a step forward, you just can't seem to make any progress." The deal is this: Mars, Mercury, even Venus, and maybe Jupiter as well all conspire to give the drive to keep moving forward, but that laugh a minute Saturn is going to drive a big spike right through the tip of your cowboy boot. It misses the flesh, but the boot is still firmly anchored in one place. So you keep moving forward and can't figure out why you're going in a circle. Hey, it's a holiday season, and since you're planted in one place, going in circles, why not just enjoy the good cheer? Don't worry about it too much either, because this is month when you might actually enjoy being rooted someplace for a change. Capricorn : This month, between the late eclipse at an early degree of your sign, on the big holiday, no less, and the quick moving Venus, you've just about got your hands full. I watch one fisherman manage two, three -- even five or six lines at a time, while he works from the bridge over the lake by me. It's not such a bad arrangement, he's just trying to keep all of his options open. It looks like hard work, though, and I wonder what would happen if that impossible event ever occurred, if two fish got hooked at the exact same time. It makes for an interesting point of debate, or, as some joker would suggest, "de bait." The sheer odds of that happening must be astronomical, but astrology and astronomy used to be the same thing, and with the way the stars are stacked right now, it could happen. Doubtful, but there is the slimmest chance that something like this could really hit. More than one fish, striking your lines, at the same time. What are you going to do? I would just look towards the heavens and suggest that it was, indeed, a heaven sent deal. The odds may be long, but the stars are with you for a change. Aquarius : A typical Aquarius is anything but typical. And the way the planets line up this month suggest a bell curve. It starts out either really good (or bad), gets worse (or better) and then gets really good (or bad) again. Since a bell curve implies a statistical median average, and since we've both decided that you are anything but average, and despite my long years of intense astrological study into the Aquarius mind, I still can't say for sure which way this one will go. There's a big swing. If you were a normal sign, it wouldn't be any kind of a problem to make these predictions. But you're not. Venus spends a large portion of this month in your sign, and she can bring endearing little feelings which tickle your Aquarius heart. That's how I wind up with so many weird earrings because it's what you think I'll like for Xmas. It's true, too. I'm particularly fond of earrings that can double as lures, or the just the reverse, fishing lures that also make good jewelry. So with your somewhat strange bell curve of a month, and when Venus lands in your sign for good, consider the needs and concerns of your friends as well as yourself. Or shop like I do, "one for them, one for me...." Pisces : This while year has been a little more arduous than the average Pisces would care to admit to. And before we cast back and look over the past 12 months, perhaps a quick glance at what's coming up will help. Eclipse and Mars are close to happening at the same time because Mars will be entering Scorpio just the day before. Mars gets tempered in water, it's like my friend who makes custom knives, he heats a piece of metal until it's red hot (glowing red) and plunges that steel into a vat of water. This makes for a blade that is much stronger than before. But if he's not careful with the process, it can also yield a blade which is brittle. There's a fine line in there, and as Mars approaches a contact point with Scorpio, and by extension, with ALL the water signs, you'll want to be prepared. When water hits the hot metal, depending on the condition in the individual Pisces chart, it can look and feel like an explosion. There are ways to void this sudden release of energy, though, and that's through some careful and methodical work. List making, especially at a time like this, especially in the earlier part of the month, might be a good idea. Make lists of folks to send holiday notes to, look at what packages arrive, and make lists of thank you notes, too. Make lists of lists. Are you going to accomplish everything?
