sex in the future - virtual sex?

Two authors in a Futurist article(July-August 97) Kenneth Maxwell (Sex in the Future: Virtuous and Virtual?) and Joel Snell (Impacts of Robotic Sex) raise some interesting issues about the future of sex. Technologies are being developed that will enable two or more people to share a virtual reality that will be "better" in some very important ways (more intense, more imagainative, safer, more available, etc.) for the majority of people. How will society react to the situation? Some will want to abolish the new technologies. Others will make a religion out of them. But what will the majority of people do? And what impacts will there be from that majority reaction? How will you react?
